The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter, Vol. 1 was so fun and I can't wait to get to the next volume. I think the only other isekai I've read is The Titan's Bride, Vol. 1, but it's definitely something I want to check out more.
This other world is suffering from a miasma, and they need a holy maiden in order to stop it's spread. This time the holy maiden is from our world so they have to magically transport her. What they didn't count on was accidentally getting 2-for-1 when Kondou get's pulled across as well.
This first volume is mainly setting up the world and it's characters, but the romance is hinted at the end and has me v excited to see it develop in the next volume.
This one was just "okay" for me. I didn't think that we'd had enough of Kondou and Aresh interacting before--let's be honest--the author forced them to have sex with each other using a well-worn fanfic trope. On a very petty level, I didn't think half of the characters who were admired for their looks were all that attractive. The story has potential, but it needs to be a little more inventive, character-focused or both to keep me going. If this had been the only volume I'd picked up, I would have dropped the series here. I do have two, so it gets a second chance.
A slow start (that it's very much aware of), but this is not only a good take on the usual isekai theme but also a very nice example of how doing "the right thing" can backfire on you. It's a bit like a darker BL version of The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent.
First of all, JUST WHAT IS THAT OFFICIAL TRANSLATION TITLE?! The fan translation was much, much better.
But oh well, This is one of the few Otomeisekais I've seen that are NOT ruined by the Romance. Gotta give props for that
Either way, If you've liked The saint's magic power is omnipotent, then you're gonna LOVE this one. It's got everything, even the main character has SEI in his name lol
And well, I'm not sure about the Mary Sue MC, but it doesn't seem like it.
I currently don't have much of an opinion on Aresh, he seems fine though, so fingers crossed
I like how this doesn’t follow the “Saintess”, but the poor person sucked into the other world with her. And while he does not have magical or divine powers, he has the powers of mathematics and working hard! The one scene between the H and H is muted and had a reason other then love, but it made sense of a sort.
4, cute quick read, stars.

I went into this completely blind and honestly can’t remember what put it in my radar…thank you, universe. Isekai with a good helping of Magic Made Me Do It (sort of) kicking off a gay romance? I’m here for it.
as of now, there's not much chemistry between kondou and aresh. the setting and plot of the story are cliché, and the encounter between both mls is weird, but i find it intriguing. i guess i'll have to see more of how the story will unfold in the following chapters.
Kondou Seiichirou is an overworked accountant who's heading home one evening when he hears a girl crying out for help. He rushes to her, only to get pulled along with her into a new world where she's expected and wanted and he's...an unexpected extra. The girl, Shiraishi Yua, is named the next Holy Maiden, a girl destined to save the kingdom from a deadly miasma. Kondou is asked what he'd like to do, and he requests an accounting job.
It doesn't take long for Kondou to start digging in places he isn't wanted, attracting some powerful enemies. He notices something fishy going on in the kingdom's accounting books and makes it his personal mission to clean things up and ensure that the country is financially stable enough to weather the hardships he's sure the miasma will soon cause. In the process, he overworks himself to the same degree he was overworked back in his own world, and tries to make up for it with "nutritional tonics." Thankfully, at least one of the people keeping a close eye on him is willing to help him out when he suddenly ends up in trouble.
This reminded me intensely of The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent. Isekai fantasy romance in which two people are accidentally transported into a new world instead of just one. One of those people is a Holy Maiden who's supposed to help dispel a miasma. Instead of being labeled another potential true "Holy Maiden," Kondou, unlike Sei, was just dismissed entirely as being unimportant. However, Kondou, like Sei, requested to be put to work and immediately began overworking himself just as much as he'd done in the real world.
Some differences: Of course, the m/m romance aspect. Plus, Kondou's love interest, Aresh, isn't so much sparklingly perfect as he is intensely serious. Aresh spends pretty much this entire volume glaring at Kondou from the sidelines. Also, there's no sign that Kondou has any magical abilities - he drinks healing potions rather than makes them.
So far, Yua, the Holy Maiden, hasn't gotten much page-time, but it's being strongly hinted at that she's being used and the situation (deadly miasma that only she can clear) may not be exactly what she's been told. Like Aira, she's young, naive, and seems to accept everything she's being told.
As far as the romance goes, that's still in the early stages and not exactly what I'd call romance yet. Basically, Kondou overuses nutritional tonics in an attempt to work past his normal limits and ends up overdosing. Aresh heals him with magic which then causes new problems, as Kondou's non-magical self proves incapable of properly processing all that magic. Infants in this world sometimes have this problem, which their mothers cure by cuddling and holding them in order to gradually build up their tolerance to magic. Kondou's an adult though, and this particular case is more serious than what infants experience, so Aresh has to rely on emergency treatment. Namely, sex. The sex isn't explicit, but it definitely happens...and Kondou's biggest reaction, upon waking up, is horror that he's late for work. Does he remember the sex? I'm not sure.
Anyway, I'm interested to see where this goes and will be reading the next volume.
Extras:
A bonus chapter from the POV of the boy from whom Kondou commissioned an abacus. Also, one full-color illustration and a couple afterwords, one from the artist and one from the original light novel author.
This story is SO fun. The only thing I'm annoyed about is the mc is KINDA the worst type of person ever like alksjdlaskjda he's dropped into this magical fantasy world and was told heres a house and money you don't need to worry about anything and he went yk what this world needs? Capitalism T-T besides him being like that, everything else is so fun
This was such a strong first volume with a unique premise and two completely loveable leads. One is a workaholic and possibly too smart and hardworking for his own good. The other is a grumpy knight, and I just adore grumpy love interests. Their paths cross in some amusing, tender, and ultimately sexy ways, and I can't wait to see what comes next.
The premise of this one isn't something I reach for, but hearing how much my friends have enjoyed it I had to pick it up.
It was really entertaining watching an accountant find his place in this new kingdom, push himself a little too hard and then find a potential love interest.
I'm really excited to pick up volume 2 of this one.
This was kinda 'meh'. I'd don't feel like it did anything particularly special - just a middle of the road Isekai.
Usually, I like my Isekais with overpowered main characters, but I was interested to see what this manga would do with a tag-along character as its MC. Nothing interesting really happened in the 1st book, except maybe one instance with the love interest.
I am interested to see how the relationship will develop, but nothing else is really grabbing my attention. I'll probably read 1 more volume to decide if I want to continue with the series.
I actually enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would. An accountant gets wrapped up in a summoning spell and ends up in a parallel world. The summoners only want the Holy Maiden but are prepared to provide financially for the tag along. In a surprising turn of events, he asks to work as an accountant and gets a job in the royal accounting department where he immediately starts making changes. The guy is a real workaholic. What I enjoyed most is the tension between him and the attractive knight captain. I’m here for that budding romance and am definitely interested in checking out the next volume.
3.5 rounded up to 4. Good start to the story. Just a bit far fetched with this guy running himself ragged for a kingdom that has treated him pretty poorly thus far. I guess that's where we will get some character growth.
So I didn’t really know what I was going into. It just sort of sounded like a fun romp. The fantasy setting drew me in but then this first volume ended on a rather weird note -(ie sex pollen made them do it… kind of, magic was involved anyway ) and so it fell a bit for me. The rest of the volume I liked well enough. The art was classy & I actually liked the MC but yeah that unnecessary sex scene at the end was just nope. But I still am intrigued enough to pick up volume two to see where the story go from there. (3,5/5⭐️)
