VV Sinclair is, was, and will be the author of the sci-fi time travel adventure, "The Sapphire Chronicles", including "Timewrecked: Collision With Destiny" and "No Dominion: Inferno Of Time". She is also the award-winning screenwriter of Immaculate Perception (2007) and Deliverance (2010). A recovering tech startup founder, VV shreds lead guitar after nightfall in the prog-rock band, Braindance.
Timewrecked is Sinclair’s masterpiece of science fiction. It is an extensive and sophisticated time travel epic written in the style of the old science fiction masters.
Brimming with intricate plots and counter-plots, the narrative propels a cast of intriguing characters across space and time, all under the watchful eye of the enigmatic Sapphire. Sinclair’s carefully crafted novel creates a clash of time-travelling personalities experiencing a whirlwind of daring survival dances.
Our journey commences far into the future, where Sapphire and her crew prepare our ride into and across time and space. Sapphire’s temporal vortex journey builds with the agents of her arch-nemesis Anacron breathing down her neck for unlawful activity in the Domain.
Sinclair’s dialogue skilfully crafts her characters into intriguing personalities as the time-driven forces of good and evil battle for control of the future far into the past. Slipping through time, Sapphire permits her readers to view the future and past as she experiences multiple lives drawing on extensive historical research to round out a damn fine read.
I have little doubt that book two, No Dominion, will carry Sapphire and her fans from the dawn of time into an imagined past and future filled with high adventure and emboldened characters as they exploit the Third Law of Temporal Dynamics.
I found this book to be really enjoyable. I wasn't sure at first, but as I got into it, I liked it more and more. I thought all the scenarios and characters were quite interesting, and almost believable. i enjoyed the historical scenarios, and even though I don't claim to understand any of the math or physics involved in time travel, I was pretty well able to buy into the premise. The book both starts and ends with Lisa at the beginning of human existence, so I would love to know how she got there. I guess I can find that out in subsequent books. I received this book from the author as a review copy from Voracious Readers Only.
I didn't feel that Timewrecked was merely calling my name ... I felt as though it were SCREAMING my name!
But then I began reading it and it seemed as though I had been thrown into an entirely new language. I give the author a lot of credit for managing to keep all of those names, words, and phrases straight. I wish so much I could have done the same.
Many thanks to both #SumaBooks and #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Timewrecked.
I received a copy of this novel from Voracious Readers Only. It's in the science fiction/fantasy genre. The book starts with Lisa (Elizabeth) Sapphire states that she's the mother of the human race. Yet she was born in Italy during the Renaissance and while still a child is transported to the 26th century. How did she end up at the end of the Upper Paleolithic era? Since this is the first book in a series, we don't get an answer to that particular question. However, we do find out why she leaves the 26th century and returns to the New York, New York on March 4th, 1909. Prior to the calamity that causes her to end up there, she has done a significant amount of travelling through history. During those visits she made sure to stash clothing appropriate to the times and money/valuables should she ever need it. Anyone travelling through time does so illegally and if they're caught, will face consequences from Anacron: the Aggregate Network Authority for Chronological Defence. They are the time enforcers for the Domain and all its worlds. When Lisa is literally thrown back in time, she has no control over when and where she arrives. Things are not as they have been during her previous time trips and Anacron is also chasing her as well. You'll need to read the book to find out what is likely causing the time issues and what becomes of Lisa during her time in New York.
I picked up the eBook and am eager to get a physical copy, too. This is a smart story written by a smart author. It's rare that I encounter a sci-fi novel featuring a first-person narrator that has the ability to go the distance without the story feeling "limited" by the viewpoint character after awhile. This is an example of a novel where the first-person narration works perfectly: we HAVE to hear it from Elizabeth's viewpoint, relying on her expertise, or we wouldn't be able to grasp the urgency and severity of what's going on (and I don't want to spoil anything about such details, so I won't). I also enjoyed the novel's vividness. New York City in 1909, for example, features prominently as a setting (and the 1909 timing is no coincidence, by the way, which I like), and the city comes alive with glamor and grittiness alike, all seen from the perspective of a 26th-century time traveler. Perhaps what sets this novel apart from many is how intelligently it is written. It subtly asks the reader to keep track of many terms and ideas, but even without the helpful glossary (which I didn't glance through until after I'd finished reading the novel), I was able to keep everything straight because of how clearly Elizabeth, the main character, keeps things in context. This is a clearly thought-out and fully-realized time travel story. By the end, I felt immersed in the broad time-traveling world of the novel, eager to immediately pick up the next book. I can't wait to find out how Elizabeth continues to handle this mess she finds herself in!
Her name is Elizabeth Sapphire, P.H.D. in Temporal Science. Yes, she is a time traveler, and she is secretly conducting research on an asteroid in the belt in the twenty-sixth century. The name of the asteroid is Lorelei, and weird events have taken place around them that have affected the asteroid. The research team is trying to figure out the reasons for the anomalies and to determine if Anacron, Aggregate Network Authority for Chronological Defense, might be at fault. The crew is also wary of Anacron because they may be watched by them, but soon, they will find out just how closely they are being watched. In that raid, the anomaly would strike again as Elizabeth tried to escape Anacron in a life pod. What she expected was a few days, maybe a week, in time travel, but not six hundred years in the past worth of time travel. Now, she is stranded in the past.
This story covers parallel timelines, so the possible is infinite. The physical world-building gives you a hazy idea most of the time, but there are instances where the entire picture is clear. The ethereal world-building is personal. The character’s interaction is believable. The FM character’s history is played out through the story.
I did not feel the steampunk vibe, but the rest of the advertised genre I did. I give this tale five stars out of five stars.
Timewrecked is a riveting science fiction adventure that takes readers on a wild ride through time with Elizabeth Sapphire, a 26th-century time traveler stranded in 1909 New York. The plot thickens as she must retrieve her time-traveling U-boat while dodging a sinister time cult and enforcers from her own era. The concept of battling over the fabric of time itself is ingeniously executed, blending historical intrigue with futuristic science. I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of suspense and the rich historical backdrop, which made Sapphire's journey not only thrilling but also visually captivating. This book is a great read for anyone who loves time travel tales with a strong, intelligent protagonist and high stakes
Strap in, time travel fans, because Timewrecked is the rollercoaster you didn’t know you needed! 🚀 Elizabeth Sapphire? More like Elizabeth ‘save the day’ Sapphire! Stuck in 1909 with just her wits and a cat (yup, a cat!), she’s racing to fix time itself. From dodging creepy cults to finding her futuristic U-boat in old New York—this book’s got more twists than a pretzel. It's all the fun of a history trip without the boring lectures. If you're into adventures that mess with time and mind-bending plots, you've gotta check this out. It's about time you added some thrill to your reading list! 🕒📚💥
I didn't know what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a fascinating and well-written story. Initially, I was a bit confused by the many tech terms; however, it didn't bother me much. I also like it when authors do their homework and create an immersive book world, and that's definitely the case in Timewrecked. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions. It's great seeing historical people included in a sci-fi setting.
I thought that this was a disappointing read. The pace felt slow and at times tedious. The plot had promise but I did not think it delivered. This was not a complete story with a resolution. The author also had a propensity to use "fancy" words (rather than plain language) and at times it was clear that the author did not truly understand the meaning of the word that had been used.
I received a free copy of this book via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review. Credit to the author for the technical details and language, but you lost me very early on.
I really wanted to like this book. But i just couldn’t keep up with all the information. I couldn’t finish the book. I received a free copy thanks to various-reads.
This was a little slow for me to get into in the beginning. However, I found it to be a good scifi story. The writer developed a good female main character.
