Five Steps to Freedom: An Introduction to Spiritual Mind Treatment

Rate this book
Spiritual Mind Treatment is a five-step mental and spiritual thought process that first redirects harmful thinking patterns away from the problem, then places the mind in total alignment with the divine Mind through the use of self-affirming terms. In this book, each step is carefully considered followed by exercises that develop the personal application and expression of that step. FIVE STEPS TO FREEDOM introduces Spiritual Mind Treatment an integral part of the New Thought way of life in terms that help the beginner transition from praying the traditional one-way method, to personally directing the process on a positive course of action. This proactive method of prayer looks at life with a new set of eyes, reinforcing the personal relationship with God from a fresh perspective and a new understanding.

Five stars to this easy-to-read, thoughtful, and useful guide to the process of Spiritual Mind Treatment. This is one book I will refer to over and over as I seek to center myself and make clear the process.

The most effective writers, like the most effective leaders, are clear and accessible. Their strength lies in what comes through them, and they use their personae in service of a bigger-than-personal agenda. In Sanskrit, they would be called "Sadvipras," which means "intellectuals who use their minds to serve God and humanity."

Dr. John Waterhouse's spiritual leadership is well recognized. In this gem of a book, he demonstrates masterful writing as well. The book is a clear, well-organized, and beautifully articulated introduction to Spiritual Mind Treatment which can also serve as a handbook and contemplation prompt to anyone involved in New Thought spirituality. Waterhouse explores each of the five steps with wisdom, insight and good information. He compares and contrasts old and new paradigm concepts, offers examples and exercises, and references relevant Ernest Holmes quotes at the end of each chapter. This book would make a wonderful gift to yourself or to a loved one who is interested in positive living. I recommend it most highly.

Well written book about Spiritual Mind Treatment.
I do think that SMT is a powerful practice for allowing more good into my life. But can SMT heal diseases? What I have learned is that disease or injury has a structural component and mind component. By working with SMT I have reduced mind pain significantly which is a big help!
I still feel cautious about this approach and that it helps to study in a classroom setting.

This book gives a short sweet and workshop ready method of approaching affirmative prayer. The language is direct, clean, and free of terminology that would give a non-religious person pause.

Friendly and clear, the reassuring tone of this basic primer on spiritual mind treatment, also known as affirmative prayer, makes it a good guide for those just beginning to think about moving into a more positive prayer practice. The Five Steps and Waterman's "Four Elements" -- the idea that effective prayer be personal, present, positive and precise -- are each given their own chapter with easy to understand explanations, examples, and opportunties for the student to try his/or her own hand at each step along the way.
