Henderson 288 Pages softback 9.5"" x 6""" "Edward Henderson expresses a unique understanding and love of the United Arab Emirates, and in so doing, provides valuable insights in to the fabric of UAE society and its recent, eventful past. His life was inextricably linked to the country’s arriving in the Trucial States in 1948 as an oil company representative, Henderson joined in the search and discovery of several vast oilfields and their exploration. Simultaneously, political considerations arose and through his intimate knowledge of the tribal system and his contacts with the parties involved; Henderson became an invaluable key to the resolution of recurring conflicts. Few foreigners have won HH Sheikh Zayed’s friendship, and even fewer knew and could talk about Sheikh Zayed the way Henderson did. A very personal account of Henderson’s life, Arabian Destiny reveals a talented and sensitive individual with the stature of a statesman.

Quite an important book and a dairy for modern Oman and UAE states and the Oil exploration.

This book covers the Oman trucial cost before establishment, the Buraimi problem, Fahud 1, loyalties in Oman before oil. The writer shy away from the fact that the exploration activities for Fahud 1 mainly caused the “Jabal Akhdar war” and mentions it briefly in the epiolage.

Picked up this book assuming it would delve into my favorite years of the state formation, but was greeted heavily with travel literature instead. There were bits and pieces of the actual interactions with the leaders, but the book mainly revolved around Hendersons travels in the Trucial states (since it is his autobiography).
