Huggly tries pizza at a "people" party and loves it, but when Huggly and his friends hunt for more pizza, a rolicking adventure soon ensues. By the author of No Jumping on the Bed! Original.
Tedd grew up with three brothers. His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years then returned to Elmira until Tedd was ten years old. His father's work then required that they move to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd's first art lessons in an abandoned dentist's office over the Happy Hour pool hall eventually led to a fine arts degree from the University of Florida.
He and his wife, Carol, started their family in Tallahassee where Tedd worked as a commercial illustrator. Carol, a kindergarten teacher, drew Tedd's attention to children's books. Their first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!.
He and his family now live in Elmira. His second son, William, now stars in NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, a sequel to his first book. He has now published over 50 books as author and illustrator.
Pure fun and nostalgia and fun memories of reading to my children. They're now young adults, and we treasure this book. No depth, preachiness, or anything. Just fun.
Arnold, T (2000). Huggly's Pizza. New York: Scholastic Inc. Illustrated by Tedd Arnold
Huggly's Pizza describes a little monster named Huggly and his friends Booter and Grubble who live underneath the "people world". Huggly tells his friends about pizza and how delicious it is, causing them to set off on an adventure to find this pizza Huggly has tried. Huggly and his friends finally find the pizza but know they are not supposed to take people stuff or food, but end up being able to have some after a thief tries to takes the pizza but has to throw it away! Huggly and his friends return to their "Secret Slime Pit" to enjoy their pizza.
This book is part of the collection of The Monster Under the Bed storybooks, and although I have heard of them I do not recall reading one until now. This was a very cute book and I really enjoyed the ending and reading to see how Huggly and his friends were able to get back into the people house and back under the bed. This book is a great tool to use with kids who are afraid of the dark or who believe that there are monsters under the bed. Huggly and his friends are not scary and it makes "monsters" seem silly; they only come out because they like pizza! I would like to see what other books are a part of this collection.
You and Simon just love Huggly with his insatiable curiosity about the "people persons" and their world. Instead of tasting toothpaste, this time Huggly gets a taste for pizza, and introduces his monster pals to the delicious dish-- of course, they don't have an easy time getting their monster hands on some, but they do succeed in the end, and even do so without stealing.
