Tedd grew up with three brothers. His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years then returned to Elmira until Tedd was ten years old. His father's work then required that they move to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd's first art lessons in an abandoned dentist's office over the Happy Hour pool hall eventually led to a fine arts degree from the University of Florida.
He and his wife, Carol, started their family in Tallahassee where Tedd worked as a commercial illustrator. Carol, a kindergarten teacher, drew Tedd's attention to children's books. Their first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!.
He and his family now live in Elmira. His second son, William, now stars in NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, a sequel to his first book. He has now published over 50 books as author and illustrator.
Huggly is a monster from under a "people child's" bed. He decides to find out one night what the big appeal of clothes are since he's never had need of them. The illustrations are cute (I like color pencil drawings), but the story isn't much to write home about. It would've been funnier if my son were a little older than 2 1/2 and could understand when Huggly put the t-shirt on as pants, jeans on his arms and underwear over his head that that was funny. Maybe 3 y/o and up would get it?
This book is about a monster that puts on a little boys clothing. It is very cute. This book could be used to teach ordinal numbers to students. They could put the clothing in order from 1st to the last peice of clothing the monster put on.
Verry cute book! Simple read. Funny twist on teaching kids how to get dressed. The pictures are darling! My nieces love this book. We laugh everytime we read it.
Little kids will giggle like mad when they hear this silly story and see the funny illustrations. Anytime underwear is mentioned in a book you know the kids will love it.
This story is about the monster that lives under the bed named Huggly. He is not mean or scary. When he gets up once the boy has gone to sleep, he sees the boy's clothes and is curious about why he wears them. Huggly decides to try them on. He goes through all kinds of clothes and puts most of them on wrong. He even ends up with the boy's underwear on his head. When the boy's mom comes to wake him up, Huggly is still out and panics. He runs into the sleepy boy and the clothes get put onto the boy. Huggly is back under the bed when the boy's mom sees his funny ensemble.
This book has very unique illustrations. They have this squiggly pattern running through the background and they are very cool to look at. This story is sweet and silly. I like it because there is humor in the story and the illustrations. It is a cute take on the "monster under the bed" story.
I do not think I would use this book as part of a lesson in the classroom. There is not really any curriculum or lesson that I can see this book lining up with. I would use this to read aloud to put my students in a good mood and to read a story just for fun that I know they would like.
