Monica L. Jones was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of six she witnessed the stage production of The Wiz, which sparked a love and appreciation for the Arts. Monica wrote and submitted a script for a popular situation comedy at the age of fourteen. She would later learn that her story would not be utilized, only to watch an episode that strongly resembled the script she submitted months before. Nevertheless, she realized her desire for writing, developing and telling stories.

Monica attended Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree. For a year she attended Howard University to where she studied Film and also studied drama under Al Freeman Jr. (Elijah Muhammed in the film Malcolm X). Years later she returned to Oakland University where she acquired a Masters of Education. Monica simultaneously attended Eastern Michigan University where she received a Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling. She is a member of the American School Counselor Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

What began as a temporary job as a substitute teacher, lead to a career in Education for more than ten years. Eight and a half of those years were spent as an English Teacher at Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan. Currently Monica is an Academic Advisor/ Counselor at Oak Park High School in Oak Park, Michigan.

Monica has never lost her love for writing and the Arts. Years after an exceedingly long hiatus, she has come full circle. Better Late Than Never is her first novel.
