Convert: From Adam to Christ

Rate this book
How does God work in the life of a new convert? Emilio Ramos uses Scripture and the writings of Christian leaders to help the reader understand the mysteries of conversion. The book is an excellent preparation for all who are called to be evangelists, pastors, teachers, and church leaders. Convert: Adam to Christ is about what God does in converting people by taking us out of Adam and putting us into Christ. Emilio's friend Ray Comfort writes, ''We are living in an age where many are lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. An unbiblical form of Christianity is not only accepted but promulgated throughout the contemporary church. . . . So it's refreshing to find men like my friend Emilio Ramos who have a deep and abiding love for the Word of God.'' Here is an excerpt from the book: ''Paul's commitment to biblical truth was so uncompromised that once the gospel was undermined he would not hesitate to defend the truth even at the expense of significant earthly relationships with other apostles. This is what makes Paul's commitment to the truth so penetrating, that he lived out what he said at the opening of the Galatian letter, 'But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!' Paul would stand up for the gospel even at the cost of significant relationships, friendships, and ministry opportunities. Although doing this was not easy or comfortable, it was necessary.'' Emilio Ramos is committed to taking this same stand for the gospel, and his writing gives the reader insight into what conversion to Christ actually entails.

Good Biblical teachings and focus on evangelism. It was sometimes unnecessarily repetitious though. I enjoy author's that break up deep truths with a few humorous stories and anecdotes. It helps me process the serious things better somehow. Ramos didn't really do that and I found it harder to concentrate on one spiritual truth after the other. Overall good book, liked his focus on what it means to be in Christ.

The connection between sincere theology and evangelism is often bound with a very loose thread. Understanding the "how" of sharing the Gospel can often become overshadowed by the true depth of the Gospel itself. This book provides a rich resource of biblical wisdom in understanding the impact of being converted from a life of sin to a glorious life lived for Christ. Emilio wonderfully demonstrates the reformed doctrine teaching in regards to man's depravity, Adam's federal headship, and Lordship of Christ in salvation. Of particular interest is the heavy emphasis on the responsibility of every believer to a local church. While a rising tide of evangelists is seen throughout our nation, sadly some still have little desire to submit to the authority, accountability, and care of the local church. Emilio creates a masterful apologetic regarding this aspect of the Christian life. The closing chapter of this book provides a very insightful and profound exposition on the Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20. Here Emilio reminds all beleivers that the emphasis is not simply to "Go" but to "make disciples". In addition, he reminds the reader of the importance of declaring the resurrection of Christ in our evangelistic effots.

I highly recommend the book as a stepping stone for every born-again convert of Christ. The clarity and biblical teaching found within its pages will prove to be a vital aspect of your walk with Christ and your desire to share Him with the world To God be the glory!
