Rock Bottom Love #2

Get Lost with You

Rate this book
A second chance at love, small-town romance that’s all sweet with just a hint of heat

Jillian Keller took the long route to her best life, but is now happily settled in her hometown of Smile, raising her little girl alone while helping her brother run Get Lost Lodge. A lover of structure and routine, she doesn’t need anything, or anyone, disrupting her carefully curated life.

After chasing and achieving his culinary dreams, Levi Bright realizes he’s still missing something. Something he can’t find in a big city. Returning home to Smile, he intends to build a different future for himself that includes mending fences with his dad, reconnecting with friends, and creating elevated comfort food for a town he loves.

When Levi and Jilly run into each other one day in Smile, once requited feelings that never had a chance to bloom as teens flare between them immediately. Jaded from her past, Jilly is cautious and convinced that she can handle being just friends, as the two have to work closely together to prepare for Get Lost’s official summer opening, spending time together, camping, laughing, kayaking, and reminiscing. But when her brother hires sweet, funny, ridiculously hot Levi as the new chef at the lodge, and she and Ollie are getting more attached, things are moving more quickly than she anticipated--and Jilly has been hurt before. If she wants to be head over heels in love, she'll have to learn that the past doesn’t always repeat itself. Sometimes, it just leads you where you’re meant to be.

“You can protect yourself all you want, but living in a way that doesn’t allow you to get hurt isn’t really the kind of life you want to live, is it?”

⊹゚. 🏕️꒱ my thoughts
this was a cute and lighthearted read that i had fun with! it wasn’t anything groundbreaking but it was still an enjoyable book for the most part. it felt a little slow at the start but it picked up a bit more and the finished with a feel-good ending <3 i loved the setting of the small town and camp lodge. some parts of the setting kind of reminded me of canada and then i found out that the author’s actually a fellow canadian which we love 😌

”But I’d like to think what we get through, what we find a way to get over, makes us stronger.”

⊹゚. 🌲꒱ characters
⤿ jillian
i liked her well enough although i feel like at times she felt a little immature? at least for a thirty-something year old. i feel like she lacked more depth too. but seeing her embrace change instead of being afraid of it was endearing.

⤿ levi
this man is a chef and he’s good with kids? come on now 🤭 i enjoyed watching him with ollie and how good he was with her. and he was genuinely interested in getting to know her too, it wasn’t just to impress jilly!
he was patient with jillian and waited for her, and showed how he would be there no matter what, which was sweet! he even concocted a s’more dessert bc he used to make s’mores for jillian when they were younger, like aw

⤿ side characters
ollie was an adorable kid and i loved the family they created together! i loved the rest of their family too, especially the siblings; they seemed like such a tight-knit group.

⊹゚.🪐꒱ romance
i ate up the childhood-friends-to-lovers trope! i love how they learned to lean on each other eventually. i wish it could have been a little more of a slow burn tho; i just feel like their relationship moved unrealistically fast. like i feel like they could’ve spent more time to get to know each other again, but it seemed like they alr did bc they were childhood friends, except it’s been years since then. but the proposal with the note was adorable 🥹

“It isn’t always perfect and it’s definitely not always easy, but when you’re with the right person, that doesn’t matter as much, because no matter what happens, you know you can lean on them. Trust them.”

⊹゚. 🪵꒱ concluding thoughts
i enjoyed this sweet and sweet romance and would recommend! thank you so much to netgalley, st. martin’s griffin, and sophie sullivan for an arc of this book 🤍

With this being my fourth book by Sullivan, she’s becoming a go-to author for feel-good, second-chance romance, and small-town romance stories. Her writing is always super consistent and I know when I read a book written by her I’m going to end up with the warm and fuzzy feels I am looking for.

This story is a treat for me because she chose to have the male lead character be all in the relationship from the beginning. With this being a second-chance romance, they obviously had prior history and unrequited love that we get to explore today. Levi is a delight, especially with his relationship with her daughter and the way he treats and honors his love interest, Jilly.

while I have not read book one in the series, it didn’t hold me back as many of the characters (family) crossed over, and there was plenty of explanation as to who was who. The location in this book is divine and certainly an added bonus in many parts of the book.

The main characters had a wonderful, sweet, and loving relationship. Get Lost With You is truly a story that you can easily get lost in.

My rating: 2.5 ⭐️⭐️

Tropes:
- second chance
- friends to lovers
- small town
- brother’s friend
- single mom
- dual POV

The fmc is a single mother who returned to her hometown and started a new life. The mmc is a man who came back home after achieving his dreams and ambitions. A childhood crush grew into something more and found its second chance.

It was a sweet story with characters who know how to set boundaries and communicate. The hero is a true "green flag" and a man who knows how to cook and loves doing it 😍.

Overall, it wasn’t bad, but I quickly got bored reading it — the chemistry between the characters was lacking.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for providing this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Get Lost With You by Sophie Sullivan
Rock Bottom Love series#2. Contemporary small town romance. Not completely closed door but no explicit scenes either. Cinnamon role hero, second chance. Can be read as a stand-alone but the couple from the prior book is part of the family in this story.
Jillian Keller has settled back in her hometown of Smile, Michigan with her daughter. She is helping her brother run Get Lost Lodge with ideas on new services, cost cutting and other measures to improve business.
Levi Bright left his small hometown to follow his dreams of being a professional chef. He achieved success and realized he wants more community and family in his life. He returns to Smile hoping to put his expertise to use in the somewhere in the town. Getting an offer to be a chef at Get Lost Lodge gives him the chance to cook, be creative and be involved with an up and coming business.
Jilly and Levi renew their friendship and realize the attraction is still smoldering and with a little care, can turn into more. Camping, laughing, playing with her daughter, and working together brings them closer where feelings bloom brighter. Jilly has been hurt in the past. She’s a bit cautious. But Levi knows this is the family and future he wants. He will prove to her that he’s the one she wants as well.

I am slow to finish this book because it clicked with me and I loved it so much. I read slower the more I like the book and I found myself reading a few pages and then setting it aside to savor and go back to later. Family, a love that can’t be denied, and busybody helpers made this story glow with overflowing warmth. A young girl that you can’t help being charmed by. A growing attraction and love that can’t be denied.
I’m swooning and in love.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

If you’re seeking a read that won’t cause you much angst or stress, you’ve found it.

There was more tension between the characters and their families than with the love interests themselves. It felt very small town bubble-y which sometimes can be good, but overly so in this case for me. There wasn’t enough excitement in the plot to keep me hooked.

A better read for someone looking for a calm story.

Small town, everybody knows everybody vibes radiate throughout the pages of GET LOST WITH YOU by Author Sophie Sullivan. Childhood friends with secret crushes on one another both return to their hometown and suddenly sparks are flying. One leaves behind a successful career as a New York City chef and the other is looking for a new beginning with her young daughter after a messy, ugly divorce.

Jilly and daughter, Ollie, return to Smile to live and work on her brother's resort, Get Lost Lodge. She fights her attraction to Levi who's now accepted a job as the lodge's chef. Levi has returned home in hopes of mending his broken relationship with his dad which appears to be hopeless. However, it doesn't take Levi long to know he wants the woman and her adorable daughter in his future, but Jilly is reluctant to enter another relationship after having been burned badly by her cheating ex-husband. As Jilly and Levi are forced into close proximity, all the warm, fuzzy feelings explode into a sizzling inferno, but Jilly still refuses to let her guard down while continuing to hold Levi at arm's length. Can he convince her that he's sincere and hopelessly in love with her and Ollie?

Author Sophie Sullivan has delivered another low angst, small town, second chance romance in spades. The characters are well-developed and likable, and I find it a nice change of pace that the hero falls first or at least acknowledges to himself that he's in love first. While the pace is a little slow, I enjoyed the journey as the pair spend time together before declaring forever and ever love. It feels more realistic, and an adorable child added an element of cuteness and a few laughs to the mix. Highly recommended to fans of small-town romance.

This book had a sweet second chance romance and featured the single parent, small town, and brother's best friend tropes!

While this was a cute read, it did not blow me away. I was more interested in the character growth than the romance itself.

4⭐️2.5🌶

This small town friends-to-lovers is so sweet and adorable. I definitely needed this as a pick me up read between some dark and emotional reads. This book had all the comfy cozy small-town vibes with all the second chance romance thrown in.

Jillian is a divorcee with an 8 year old daughter who is living with her parents in the small town of Smile after her divorce. She had moved away in her early twenties to follow a businessman who turned out to be a piece of poop,. Once she figured that out, she moved back to beautiful small town she calls home.

Levi, Jillian's childhood crush, moves back to Smile to help his parents as they get older. He moved away at 17 to go to a prestigious culinary school. Then he built his career as a professional chef and many big name restraunts, until he had enough of the big city and wanted to move back to Smile to be with his family and friends.

Levi has been in love with Jillian since he was 13, but she's the younger sister of his two best friends. Jillian has been in love with him since before she could remember. He went to culinary school when she was only 15 and after a disastrous attempt at a first kiss.

As adults, they realize they both still have feelings for each other. But they must relearn each other as they are now.

This is an entertaining, well-written, second chance, contemporary romance novel. It has a likable female protagonist, a kind and caring male protagonist, an adorable nine year old girl, wit, humor, small town charm, vividly described settings and meals, a heartwarming romance, and a satisfying conclusion. I especially liked the beautiful promise and unique gifts. This is the second entry in Ms. Sullivan's "Rock Bottom Love" series, and it can be read as a stand alone. Many thanks to St. Martin's Press/St. Martin's Griffin, Ms. Sullivan, and NetGalley, from whom I received an advanced reader copy of this delightful novel. This is my honest opinion.

Note: Some of my goodreads shelves can be spoilers

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Readability: 📖📖📖 (I got bored pretty quickly and wanted to jump to something else...)
Feels: 🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔💔
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡ (I thought the tension was lacking because it was instalust and very, very easy and low angst for them)
Romance: 💞💞💞💞 (I mean – it’s very sweet!)
Sensuality: 💋💋💋 (I liked the foreplay, but anything further faded and I like that on page...)
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑 (So there’s a decent amount of foreplay the actual act fades off page)
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥
Humor: A touch
Perspective: third person from both hero and heroine
More character focused or plot focused? character
How did the speed of the story feel? medium
When mains are first on page together:
Cliffhanger: This ends with a happily ever after
Epilogue: Yes, six months later
Format: voluntarily read an advanced reader copy through NetGalley in e-book form
Why I chose this book: I think I got widget from NetGalley and I CANNOT say no to widgets 😆
Mains: This is a M/F relationship between a cishet hero and heroine
(Descriptions found at end of my review)

Should I read in order?
This is book 2 of Sullivan’s Rock Bottom Love series. I didn’t read book 2, but found this one readable alone. The mains from book 1 have page time here and the story sounds fun though so I suggest you give it a go first if you like to know all the characters! (The hero from book 1 is the brother of this book’s heroine)

Basic plot:
Jillian meets her old flame Levi and feelings immediately flare...

Give this a try if you want:
- contemporary romance
- small town setting (Smile, Michigan)
- second chance-ish
- some elements of instalust
- single mom heroine
- chef hero
- childhood friends to lovers
- easy, low angst relationship
- brother’s friend
- low steam – there’s a few kisses and one on page scene of foreplay that then fades for the actual act

Ages:
- hero is 31, heroine is 30

First line:
There were only two reasons to go to a high school reunion.

My thoughts:
Yay for a third person contemporary! I always fall into those stories so much easier than first person.

I loved the setting of this book, being from Michigan I could really appreciate these small town dynamics and adorable settings. (But I did question the line about being able to see the mountains??)

But...I love my angst. And this book had zero. The relationship between them was so, so easy. And so sweet. And some of you will really love that so I hope you give it a read. But sadly I was just soooo bored. And with it having no steam either I was just eager to reach then end.

Few random reading stats for this author
# of books read: This is my first

Favorite book: This one?

Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.

I can rely on Sophie Sullivan’s books to put a smile on my face, to able to lose myself in the romance, love, and devotion of her characters. The love story of Jillian and Levi is heartwarming and tender, sometimes a bit sappy, but always sincere. The town of Smile lives up to its name, and its residents are sometimes grumpy but mostly endearing! I hope I get to return to this lovely setting! ARC Reading Vlog -- Get Lost with You and Never Planned on You || A Little (Lot) of Ranting

DNF at 30%. There’s no spark. No passion. No energy.

~

Listen, maybe I’m the drama, because I need more antagonism between my main characters in a romance or I get bored. And man was I bored with this. It just didn’t feel like there was any passion between these two. They didn’t seem to feel a rush when interacting, there’s no banter, playful teasing, even fun one liners. It’s just basic dialogue and an occasional compliment. I felt nothing. Such a shame because I love a good small town romance and second chance, but this was doing nothing for me so I didn’t ever want to pick it up.

Jilly and Levi are end game. They shared an almost kiss that ended somewhat disastrously for Jillian, right before Levi moved away. When he comes home, they've grown up but the attraction, the deep affection and friendship still exists. Only, now, there's nothing to stop them from being together. But that doesn't mean it's all smooth sailing. Jilly has her nine year old daughter, Ollie, to consider. She's been burned before and even though Levi is nothing like her ex, she's trained her heart to be cautious. Levi is all in from the minute he sees her again but knows he needs to tread carefully; not just with Jillian's heart but in his friendship with her brothers. Especially if he's going to come work at Get Lost Lodge.

Okay so as much as I love a good second chance romance and friends to lovers, this one was just “okay” to me. Like the first one, to me this just felt like something was missing. I just wanted more from it. The story was cute, don’t get me wrong. But just felt like something was missing. Like the first one I did like the story, I liked the characters but I felt like the story was moving a little slow and at times I found it a little corny. I also felt like the chemistry was a little lack luster. I will say though that Levi really did break my heart a little at times with how obsessed he was with Jilly😭

Jillian Keller has rebounded after divorce, raising her eight-year-old daughter on her own while working at the Get Lost Lodge with her family. She’s in a good place in her life, happy to be in her beloved hometown of Smile. However, her teenage crush, Levi Bright, has come back to town and the attraction she felt for him back then reignites and grows the more she sees him, which is often since he’s been filling in as chef at the lodge. It’s fast and a bit disconcerting considering her past failure with love.

Levi Bright left Smile to pursue his dream of becoming a chef and achieved his goal, but now he is craving a life closer to family and friends. He’s never forgotten his best friend’s younger sister, Jillian, and the kiss the “almost kiss” before he left for college. Now that Levi’s back, that simmering attraction they felt as teenagers is sparking up again. Levi’s ecstatic over his blossoming romance with Jillian, but knows she’s wary of jumping in too fast.

I adored Levi! He embraced life with gusto, from reaching out and achieving his dream of becoming a chef to realizing he wanted more from life than just a career and then doing something about it. I admired Jillian for picking up the pieces after a bad marriage and then thriving as a single mom. Both had to deal with messy issues: Jillian with her awful ex, and her personal fears of repeating the past; Levi had an angry and hurt father with his loving mother caught in between.

The picturesque setting of Smile, in the Lake Michigan area, sounded lovely with Get Lost Lodge as a perfect rustic lake getaway!

Get Lost With You
was a sweet, small-town, second chance romance with a lively secondary cast of characters! It was a joy to experience Jillian and Levi’s journey to HEA!

Arc courtesy of the publisher. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.

This was such a cute second chance romance read! I loved the small town setting, especially since it took place in my home state of Michigan.

In this book Jilly has been home for 5 years after a divorce, trying to make a life for herself and her daughter. After chasing and achieving his culinary dreams, Levi is returning home to be close to family after his dad had a health scare.

This was one of those feel good reads that’s perfect to cozy up with blanket in front of the fire and binge read.

I absolutely loved the connection the characters had with one another and how it all played out with their history and new developments in play. Jilly and her daughter also had a fun dynamic and it was interesting to see the role it played into the romance that developed between Jilly and Levi.

Read this if you like:
🌲Brother’s best friend
🌲Small town romance
🌲Second chance romance
🌲Childhood friends to lovers
🌲Single parent
🌲Dual POV

Even though this is the second book in the series, I didn’t read the first book and I was easily able to read this one as a standalone.

Thank you @stmartinspress for the gifted copy of the book.

I love small town romances especially when it involves childhood crushes or brothers best friend.. and this has both 😍

~Jilly has been back in her hometown for almost 5 years now, making a life for herself and her daughter after divorce. Levi has lived his culinary dreams and is returning home to be closer to family after a health-scare with his dad.~

Jilly and Ollie are the cutest mother/daughter duo and adding Levi to their little family was PERFECTION! The hurdles they both go through are tough but I enjoyed seeing how they handle everything. I loved both of their families too. The fact that they all grew up around each other was so cute. Their dynamic was incredible!

I was provided both the ALC and ARC of this book via Netgalley, all opinions are my own. Than you to St. Martins Press/St. Martin's Griffin and RB Media/Recorded Books for providing me with advanced copies of the book in both formats. I have really come to enjoy reading along with the audiobook when I get the opportunity. The narrator did a great job keeping me engaged

This was a super sweet second chance, small town romance. Jillian Keller, aka Jilly has been in love with Levi since high school. He left their small town of Smile to chase his dreams of becoming a chef and working in a big time fancy restaurant and while he had feelings for her, he didn't want to lead her on. He was also friends with her older brothers and didn't want to break the "bro code". Fast forward into the future, Jilly is a divorced single mom and helping to run a small lodge with her brothers. She is cautious about everything in her life but overly so when it comes to love after her failed marriage. She has alot on her plate with the lodge's summer opening looming and some new offerings on the way to bring in new clients. She doesn't have time for a new relationship when Levi reenters her life, but everything happens for a reason.

Levi has returned home to help out with the family construction business when his dad needs routine surgery. There is a rift between father and son that needs mending due to Levi leaving town to pursue his dreams and not taking over the family business. Naturally feelings were hurt, but Levi wants nothing more than to mend this fence and reestablish himself in his home town. He achieved his goal to become a successful chef, and now more than ever he knows that the small town life is what he wants. He also wants to explore that spark he has always felt for Jilly, so when an opportunity to cook at the lodge and spend more time with her opens up he jumps at the chance to show her how great they can be together and that he isn't going anywhere.

I really loved this. Levi and Jilly were really cute together, they kept their relationship playful while dealing with real life situations. They passed notes to one another like teenagers to keep things fun, while building up the trust needed for something concrete. It is very low spice, there are some intimate scenes, but they are fade to black and not very descriptive. I appreciated that Jilly got to explore her feelings of inadequacy in a relationship and fears about a new relationship as a single mom on her own terms. She had real conversations with Levi and the conversation she had with her mom were really great to help her overcome her objections and find love again.

This is the 2nd book in the Rock Bottom series, but it does read as a complete standalone. I have not read the 1st book in the series which centers around Jilly's brother Beckett and girlfriend Presley. They are side characters in this book, and I'll be picking Love, Naturally soon as I want to know everything about their love story! This is also my first book by the author, but it will not be my last!

~Small-Town, Romance, Second-Chance, and more!~

2.5| Overall, this was a quick and mindless read. Unfortunately, it lacked any depth and was far too cliche and cheesy for my taste. While the town is quaint, far too many characters are introduced too fast. The plot itself is also quite weak. The conflict in the book didn't make much sense and came out of nowhere, which made the main character, Jilly, quite unlikeable. There isn't much growth between Levi and Jilly either because they have known each other since childhood. We barely get any scenes of them getting to know each other again, and the flashback scenes are few and far between, making the relationship move unrealistically fast. I also found Jilly's parents quite unlikeable regarding the house situation. It seemed out of character for the tight-knit dynamic built throughout the book. I found the issues with Levi and his father realistic and enjoyed that, unlike every other issue in this book, it was worked through, not solved, in one conversation. I wish I had seen more scenes with Levi and Ollie and how that dynamic developed. The side characters were okay but not very memorable. I enjoyed the scenery descriptions throughout the book, but they sometimes felt too long. This wasn't a bad book per say, but not very memorable or something I found myself thinking about.

*I received this book through St. Martin's Press via NetGalley as an eARC reader. This will not in any way affect my thoughts or opinions on the book*

Get Lost With You by Sophie Sullivan is already out and it's narrated by Allyson Morgan. Jilly Keller is happily raising her daughter in Smile, sticking to her structured life while helping run Get Lost Lodge. Chef Levi Bright returns home to rebuild relationships and bring his culinary vision to the town he loves. When they’re thrown together at the lodge, old feelings resurface, forcing Jilly to decide if she’s willing to take a chance on love again.
This was such a cute read! Even though it's book two in the series, I had no trouble following along. The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life, making it even more enjoyable!

This was such a delightful and heartwarming second-chance romance! I had no idea it was the second book in the Rock Bottom Love series, but it works perfectly as a standalone.

This book takes readers back to Get Lost Lodge, a family-owned retreat that Sullivan brings to life with vivid descriptions, making the setting feel truly immersive.

While it may not be the most unforgettable read, I still enjoyed its playful and lighthearted charm in the moment!

Not bad. It's slow and low angst. Perfect read for when your brain can't comprehend too much. Also I liked the single mom aspect.

Levi and Jillian are all grown up, with eye-opening life experiences behind them, and can finally get the second chance they both deserve in this sweet, heartwarming romance.

These two had wonderful chemistry between them. They started something pretty early on, and even though the attraction burned hot, they took their time to finally act on it. Their intimate scenes were fade-to-black, but very intense, nonetheless.

There were some slow-moving parts and the bits with her ex felt like unnecessary filler. It was clear that Jillian had plenty to deal with after her disastrous marriage, without bringing him into the picture. Levi had his own issues, but he was wholly committed to making the relationship with Jillian work. Ollie and Levi were super cute together.

The ending was pretty corny, but perfect for closing the loop of Levi and Jillian that started when they were kids. This book is part of a series but stands well on its own. I didn't read the first one. I can recommend it if you like a charming closed-door romance.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgally for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
