Hellebores are beautiful … but they’re also extremely toxic.
As a child, Millianna tried to stay away from the Fae that controlled her world, but one simple mistake binds her to one for six years. After getting kidnapped by vampires, Millianna escapes to the Otherworld where she makes the mistake of saying the Winter Prince’s true name out loud. Now considered a threat to the Fae, Millianna is sentenced to spend the next six years at the infamous Hellebore Academy, neutral territory for the Seelie and Unseelie Fae Courts. Her plan is to keep a low profile, but that gets thrown out the window when she not only makes an enemy out of the Winter Prince, but the Dark Prince, and Lady of Summer. If that wasn’t bad, mortal students start to go missing and an ominous threat looms over the academy. Someone wants Millianna dead, and they’d do anything to get what they want. The only way to survive in this cruel and beautiful world was to gain power and Millianna was determined to make every single Fae fall to their knees.
This one was interesting because it was as if in today's world there was magical beings with why choose, bullying Academia, lost identity, spice.
I felt this short version was better suited as a bigger book. I felt the connections weren't given enough time to progress. I also would've loved more lines from the book she's reading that would tie into more of the story. The writing is well written but just needed more story on the characters she meets.
So, the first... 40% of this book is rough. There's something a bit juvenile about it and there's a lot that feels like I should already know when I definitely don't. The tense also switches from past to present and it took me out of the story every time (this is actually a problem with the whole book not just the first 40%). I stuck with it because I'm a ho for fae and also for why choose with lady LIs in the mix. I'm glad I did because it really started to find it's legs around the 50% mark and it finished strong. I'm definitely excited to read book 2 if it keeps that same momentum.
Going in I feel like there were somethings I missed. The pace felt a little rushed. Also why are all Fae such bullies. Honestly not a huge fan of bullies. Like where was Cillian when Darling was being attacked? However I think Darling was my favorite of them all. Her will to fight and not give in was refreshing. Overall I did enjoy reading it.

This book started of a bit rough. But reading on you get the characters and their connection to one and other. The story has a lot of trigger warnings, you should read them when you are not in to bullying. The story is easy to follow and and it ends with a cliffhanger.
