What is love? Baby, I know it will hurt me...

Scarlet Devons suffers from a case of "love incapability." Her heart is in a stage of pure confusion in the chaotic world of a senior in high school. Not only does she have to make sure her friend Vanessa is in a good headspace during a tough time, but she also needs to cope with an awkward love moment with Michael - the self-proclaimed sex therapist.

The chaos of it all made Scarlet rethink her entire identity because her inability to experience true love affected her mentally. Luckily, Scarlet met Iris and Evan along the way, who broadened her horizon and made her learn life-changing lessons. Personal growth is a process that lasts a lifetime, and Scarlet Devons experienced the most of it in such a short amount of time.

Love is like an illusion that needs a specific type of lens. What conclusion will Scarlet reach? Is she really unable to love anybody?

In a refreshing departure from conventional romance narratives, Mangled Romantic explores love and friendship through the lens of an asexual protagonist, something that is not frequently seen in contemporary fiction.

This was such a cute and refreshing take on a romance novel! In Mangled Romantic, we meet Scarlet, a teenage girl who discovers she is asexual. With the support of her friends, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and learns that love comes in many shapes. This book also touches on the subjects of addiction and mental health. I was hooked from the very first page! And I loved that this book dives deeper into what an asexual person experiences. It’s very eye opening. Two critiques I have are, one, a character confesses their love for Scarlet but then is immediately in a relationship with someone else. It just felt rushed. And two, a friendship abruptly ends. I wish there had been more build-up to that. These are just things noticed. I still absolutely loved this book and think a lot of people will love it too!

I absolutely loved the concept of the book! It touched upon all the important topics - drug overdose, asexuality, and depression. I'm glad that the main character believed in doing what the heart wants and spread the same mantra everywhere. Iris, Evan, Michael and Vanessa were absolutely the most supportive and caring friends anyone would vouch for. Iris is my favourite! I would feel a rush of emotions while reading this, and it's a good thing. If you're up for a roller coaster ride, this is a must read!

Our FMC Scarlet Devons is confused about love, her feelings towards love and relationship. We see the story of her life, from school to uni, her friends, her family, coming out to her friends as an asexual, moving all the way to the UK. This book has every aspect of a teenager coming out, just navigating through life, bullying, mental health, experimenting, discovering herself.
EShe loves books, falls asleep with her book every night. So relatable.
It was really wholesome to see a bunch of friends being there for each other through it all. I did feel really bad for Michael at the end but then the heart wants what it wants right
Scarlet finds her love at the end, realises she is capable of love, she is a mangled romantic after all.
It is a really cozy and cute read, different than the usual fiction we read.
I enjoyed it. I wouldn't have minded if there was more to the story.

Loved to see how the main Character, Scarlet Devons, goes on a self-discovery journey from her hometown in the US, to London in the UK, how she navigates her coming out, her friendships, and her new young adult life with uni, responsibilities, and her mental health.
She's very relatable when it come to her love of books and I saw myself in her more than once throughout her journey.
Thank you Karol Lynne for the ARC, it was a very enjoyable read!
