Delphine and Logan think they're moving up in the world when their father dies. However, they have a ton of debt--and worse yet, they learn their father gambled their estate away...to an unknown American! Her brother is a bit of a spendthrift (and well, let's face it, loser) so she may have to save them both from poverty.

Stephen Van Eyck happens to be the American. And when he comes to England to survey his new inheritance, he finds the beautiful Delphine, who automatically despises him. Meanwhile, the pity he feels for her drives him to make amends. And Delphine, well, she whips his sister into shape, all while dreaming of owning her own millinery.

I really enjoyed Lady of a Gilded Age. Stephen is charming, with just a touch of rogue. Delphine and Louise are wonderfully drawn "new women" of their age. I recommend Lady of a Gilded Age, and even though it's the second book in the series, it can be read on its own.

(4.5 stars) - A very enjoyable pas de deux times two!

Stephen & Delphine become caught up in a dance that draws them together and apart repeatedly, while their siblings partner up in a parallel of movements as all of their lives intertwine in an entertaining quadrille

The series of obstacles that get in their way are many, but by the time the final villain of the tale is confounded, it's so very satisfying. My only disappointment was that we don't get long, preferably as an epilogue, to savor the happily-ever-after as fully as I would have wished. Perhaps as bonus content for newsletter subscribers? 🙏

*Romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic
