Nick doesn’t date vanilla women. For him, a woman has to want the sweet and the spicy. But she’s different. When he falls hard for the sassy bartender of the Dusty Coyote bar, he realizes that kinky or not, he has to have her.
Katie doesn’t date cowboys. That’s a one-way ticket to misery and the last thing she needs in her life is more heartbreak. But he’s different. There’s something about him that calls to her, and his obvious kinky side is exciting to someone with zero experience in those games. For the first time, she’s willing to open up a little, and give someone a chance.
But will the relationship work, if she can’t find it in her to enjoy the rough play this cowboy Daddy needs?
USA Today Bestselling Author Kessily Lewel, and her darker side Sadie Marks, are two halves of the same author. All of her work falls under the category of power-exchange romance. Kessily’s books tend more towards sexy romance with a side of domestic discipline, while Sadie has been sticking to sci-fi, with her race of Dominant aliens who are looking for a few good humans to call their own.
She has been in love with fantasy, sci-fi and horror since she was a child. She grew up reading Stephen King, Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and others, so it was only natural that one day she’d write her own worlds—though hers do seem to have a lot more sex and BDSM in them.
This is a sweet and short prequel to a new series and I’m hooked. This is Nick and Katie’s meet cute and introduces Katie to the world of BDSM and Dom/sub relationships.
I loved Katie and Nick. Katie is so relatable and down to earth and Nick is the perfect gentleman and Dominant 🥰 Their exploration into kink was perfectly paced and evolved with open communication and plenty of patience, understanding and acceptance.
I loved that this isn’t insta-love. There is instant attraction but their relationship developed over time. They date, learn about each other, grow to trust and genuinely like each other before things get physical. It was a lovely change in romance we dont see that much of anymore.
They’re story doesn't end here and I can’t wait to what comes next for Katie and Nick 🩷
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The prequel was a great setup for understanding the relationship between Nick and Katie and how it all began. Nick is a cowboy working at one of the ranches. Most of the work is seasonal too, but it gives him three hots and a cot with a small paycheck. Katie is working at one of the local watering holes tending bar, she feels stuck back in Wyoming.
Nick will come in one Friday night and sit at the bar where he meets Katie. She refers to him as cowboy but won’t share her name. She is accustomed to the cowboys who come and go, and it isn’t something she wants to be involved with. Nick loves flirting with her and is never pushy. He has his standards too—his kinks—and he isn’t into vanilla relationships.
I liked the slow burn of getting to know each other, learning to trust, and eventually, having honest conversations about what they want. It is as if they are dancing to what will eventually come—it is slow, flirtatious, and adds to the chemistry. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. When they do decide to move their relationship forward, the dominant Nick doesn’t push, he waits out Katie, making her be honest with herself and him—and they progress into a light BDSM D/s experience. The Daddy is only words during their encounter and is not age-play related. The story is about 80 pages long.
The Trouble With Cowboys is a prequel to the Rough Daddies series. And if this book is any indication, it will be one smokin' hot 🔥 ride! It's a short and steamy, OTT, instalust, age-gap, opposites-attract, mild BDSM, girl gets her kinky cowboy daddy romance. Katie is a young, sassy, and fiercely independent bartender. Nick is an ex-rodeo rider now ranch hand and is a daddy Dom who likes to play a little rough. When Nick first sees her at the bar, he is instantly drawn to her. Katie is reserved but attracted to him, too. As they spend time together, the attraction grows. Nick hints about his dominant side, but Katie is new to it. This story shows their first encounter and holy hotness 🫠🥵. Nick is panty-melting hot 🔥 and Katie is sassy but also open to having someone to care for her. I loved their dynamic. They had hot chemistry and great flirty, snarky banter. I can't wait to read more of their story. This was my first book by this author, but now I need to go back and binge the last series. I loved it!!!.

Cowboy Nick (H) doesn't date vanilla women—he needs someone who embraces both sweet and spicy. He finds that balance in bartender Katie (h), whose sassy demeanor and quick wit draw him in. However, Katie is wary of cowboys; they've caused her more trouble than comfort. But Nick is different. He's charming, protective, and genuinely interested in her. Their relationship develops through shared stories, laughter, and a growing understanding of each other's pasts. Nick reveals his strained relationship with his father and his life as a wandering cowboy, while Katie talks about her dreams of becoming a web designer. Despite her reservations, she's intrigued by Nick's protective nature and obvious interest in kink. As their bond deepens, Nick introduces Katie to the BDSM lifestyle, and she's open to exploring his kinky side. Hot and spicy series prequel with Daddy kink, steamy scenes and graphic sex, setting the stage for more to come in the Rough Daddy series, hinting at a promising future for Nick and Katie in "Learning the Ropes."
This is a prequel to a new series, and if it is any indication of what it is to come then it will be another winner for this author and we readers! Katie and Nick’s first encounters are friendly enough but Katie has no interest in pursuing a relationship, of any type, with a cowboy as they are nomadic in nature moving on as the winter slowdowns occur. However, Nick is persistent as well as being a little bit bossy and protective (he is a Dom after all). When he actually has a chance to come to her aide, despite her resistance, he does so in a very subtle and caring way. The barriers begin to break down. A beautifully written story of a wounded woman being introduced to the DDlg lifestyle by a caring and supportive Daddy Dom. There is a bit of the physical aspects of the kink, but primarily this focuses on the beginnings of the emotional connections of the kink. I thoroughly enjoyed this introductory short story and can’t wait for the series to unfold. 4 stars.
"The Trouble With Cowboys" is a prequel to Kessily Lewel's "Rough Daddies" series. At first, I was disappointed to discover it was a spin-off of her "Daddy Takes the Reins" series. I hadn't read it beforehand, but once I started this book, I realized it wasn't a prerequisite to fully enjoying this new one. Despite the slow pace of Nick and Katie's relationship, the storyline moves fast, which may sound like an oxymoron, but it's true. The characters are so relatable that I felt like I knew them. They took things slowly, but the circumstances and exchanges were so intriguing that they made the storyline move quickly, and I couldn't put it down. Now, I know that I'll have to set aside some time to read "Daddy Takes the Reins" to have all the moving parts within the narrative pictured in my mind. I'm looking forward to following Nick and Katie's story, and I'm sure there will be more than a few bumps along the way as they make this journey.
A simply captivating read that I know you’ll be captivated by, you’ll love this story This book The trouble with Cowboys is a prequel and is setting the scene for the wonderful series in which Nick and Kate are both interested in each other and are simply wonderful characters and I guarantee that you will love this book it is a simply wonderful read. This is very easy quick funny read with lots of excitement in my opinion for its up coming series. It’s I believe my first time reading from this talented author I can definitely say it won’t be the last for sure. In this book we get introduced to some wonderful characters both had hard childhood experiences, but they’re strong willed now. Katie is very independent who doesn’t like asking for help. Nick is a handsome hard worker cowboy who helps other hands on a ranch and his just looking for a relaxing good time/ blow off stream. There is plenty of chemistry and hidden attraction between the pages it’s a fantastic book with sassy curiosity and more to explore! A great way to start a series I can’t wait to see where these two characters continue to grow/take us:) I love cowboy romance especially with some spice involved if you’re like me this is a good pick for you too!
I would describe this as a slow burn romance with plenty of sizzle. The main characters, Nick and Katie, share an attraction from the onset (though she tries to deny it). I enjoyed the way Lewel wove tension between them and had them playing it back and forth, but not in a push-pull manner. You can picture that when these two finally give in its gonna totally rock their worlds.
I'm anxiously waiting to read more about these two in the coming books. Hurry - please.🙏 I an so lucky to have received a gift copy of this book and volunteered this review. I hope you enjoy this book every bit as much as I did. Happy Reading Y'all📚
This was the perfect prequel to Nick and Katie’s story because it just leaves you wanting more. I loved the banter when they met, with Katie giving as good as she got. Her sass and quick comebacks got Nick’s attention and had him coming back for more. While the spark was there, Nick was worried that Katie would not accept his kinky side, but no one’s more surprised than Nick when Katie shows her willingness to explore that side of him and proves they were literally made for each other. The Trouble with Cowboys is a prequel, setting the scene for the new Rough Daddies series. Nick and Katie are both interesting and likeable characters, drawn to each other from the start. This is just a short story, telling the beginning of their story, so there's only a hint of the steam and kinky times to come, but it sets the scene nicely for what's to come.

The plot is simple. The characters are realistic. Their dialogs & behavior are very reasonable. You feel that you meet them before. No bizarre reaction or extraordinary events that are beyond believe. It's easy to fall in love of them, anticipate their story and wish them the happy ending. All in all, enjoyable!.

This was Nick and Katie’s story. Nick doesn’t date vanilla women. For him, a woman has to want the sweet and the spicy. But she’s different. When he falls hard for the sassy bartender of the Dusty Coyote bar, he realizes that he has to have her. Katie doesn’t date cowboys. That’s a one-way ticket to misery and the last thing she needs in her life is more heartbreak. Will this relationship work? An engaging read. And voluntarily leaving this review.
This is a short story of about 80 pages that introduces Nick who is a seasonal worker at a local ranch who doesn't date vanilla women. He meets Katie at the bar she works and she does not date cowboys. The feel a pull for one another and Nick decides to date her despite her being vanilla. Katie is willing to try kink but is unaware what it is. This book touches on what a Daddy is but does get into it. The is light BDSM .
This prequal is a good start to a new series and gives you a nice glimpse of what's to come. Nick is intrigued by Katie's sass & independence. And as they get to know each other, Nick introduces her to the kink lifestyle. The book is short, sweet and steamy and while they have a Daddy kink relationship, it really doesn't involve age play.
The Trouble With Cowboys is a well written, sweet and charming prequel to a new series where the reader gets to know the characters as they get to know one another while setting the scene for a relationship with what promises to be an awesome daddy kink dynamic. - A cute, light read with a touch of steamy kink.
I enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading The Trouble With Cowboys, I had a hard time putting my tablet down. I wanted to continue reading to see what was going to happen next. The characters are wonderful and the storyline grabbed my attention from the start. I would recommend reading this book.

This was a cute story that sets this series up perfectly. I loved that Katie was sassy and that Nick was worried she wouldn't like all his 'kinks". These two together made this very enjoyable and now I can't wait for the rest of the series!
This is a little short story about Nick and Katie. In my opinion it started out kind of slow. It did get much better. But still a little more tame than I expected.

This prequel is a great quick introduction to Katie and Nick. It gives a insight to both characters and how they met. Katie is a great mix of sweet and sassy and Nick is protective and has charm. This is a spicy cowboy daddy romance and makes me for the rest of the series
