I’ll uhm 😄 I’ll post my review after pub day besties ... Alright here we go

Oh no … that wasn’t good.

In the beginning I was sooooo intrigued. The setting, the cover, the story, and the plot. It was all new and exciting and just something I’ve never read before. Overtime though It started to seem like we were losing the plot. The explanation of Sebastian backstory felt repetitive and with no new details. He was adamant about not having anything to do with Leona but then it somehow started to feel instalovey? Another thing was Piper and Whitney. There were moments when they were carrying the plot and I think explaining their backstory from Leona’s POV was not the best story-telling choice. The constant switch of POV between leona and set was confusing as well. Also the spice was very very inconsistent. There were a few moments when it was in detail then they would talk about it after the fact. It just never really flowed well and I didn’t know what to expect as a reader and not in the good way.

Also some little logistical things. There was a lot of summary in the plots. Talking about what happened instead of letting the reader experience it. I would rather read the scene than be told about it in multiple summaries. Also the on page r@pe… multiple times. I feel like it didn’t advance the plot one bit. We read about it in the flashbacks but when I say it completed threw me for a loop in the present tense. The troupes don’t really feel representative of what I read. What sold me was “touch her and die” and “forbidden love” but the relationship was never really forbidden and by the time we got to the “touch her and die” portion Seb just felt like a very weak character to me. The cliffhanger was really upsetting. I was exciting about continuing the series because I thought we would be able to get into the other characters stories, but It ended up feeling SOOO Rushed and me not wanting to continue. I understand that abusive relationships come in many shapes and sizes but I don’t really like how at times Gideon was made to be seen like a good guy. I personally think after everything that we’ve read on page that he should not get a redemption ARC but I could see that being a possibility. Sebastian absolutely told them he wanted to die and be done and for once I actually believed a character when they said that… So because of his conviction IM UPSET WITH HIM that he was turned. Who knows when book two comes out I just might be curious but it is highly unlikely.

This book is the first in a duology. It is set primarily in modern day New Orleans, Louisiana. This setting provides a culturally rich and enticing backdrop for this story. In this paranormal romance, vampires live among us, although there don’t seem to be very many of them. The main character, a guy named Sebastian, gets sucked into this new world by his best friends (pun intended) and has to face the reality that some of the spooky stories told around New Orleans are true.

I’m not usually a fan of books with male main characters, but Sebastian is incredibly endearing. The relationship he has with his two best friends is heart warming. It’s an amazing found family situation. Sebastian is kind, considerate, respectful, low on self esteem, and suffers from anxiety. All that makes him feel incredibly real and relatable.

The main romance of the book is also heartwarming and optimistic, even though the love interest’s heart doesn’t pump blood anymore. Leona is vulnerable and a bit broken, haunted by her past, but Sebastian is everything she’s ever wanted in a partner.

This story is not your typical vampire tale. It’s slow moving for the most part, picking up pace right at the end. It is really relationship development focused in the beginning, building a strong foundation. It also has danger, mystery, and adventure. I loved all the main characters and look forward to reading the sequel.

2.5 Stars for many reasons

I wanted so much to love this book and it took me a while to decide where I was going to rate this book. This book left so much plot that could have been used out of the book. The MMC just fell flat and weak for me and wasn't that interesting to be honest. I mean he was sweet and romantic but anytime he tried to be "protective" it just came out like an annoying whiny kid.

The story was there to be great, but it just fell flat for me.

**Also not included in the review grading but a thought. If you are going to write triggers its fine but you should always have a trigger warning list. Especially if you are going to write on page graphic detail. As an Author you owe it to readers we are in 2024.**

**This book does have triggers so beware of SA, Domestic violence, and on page r@pe.**

I really enjoyed the writing. I appreciated how much information there was given it’s a shorter book, and that it was delivered both in 3rd person POV and woven into the dialogue without sounding ranty. The pacing was great, overall I just really enjoyed this read.

The book is mostly set in New Orleans, which I also loved. The banter between Sebastian and Leona was funny, witty, and so sweet. Most of the scenes are closed door. Seb was a great character and I adored his friendship with Charlotte and Victor. Leona’s backstory of continuous abuse was gut wrenching but I loved that she still always held out hope. (F*** Gideon.) The trigger warnings were warranted, that’s for sure.

The cover of this book is also stunning. Big thank you to @trulyyours.pr for sending me an early copy. 🫶🏻

Quick read, just over 200 pages!

The dedication 🥹 As someone who's lost their best friend to the other realm, I already started crying.

Lenora & Sebastian's banter is everything. Kicking my feet & giggling like a damn schoolgirl.

I can't wait to see how book two will develop with its characters and their bonds. I'd love to see more of an arc with this specifically because there were some points that I feel need to be addressed in regards to that, making it an overall better story. All in all, a lovely read!

ARC REVIEW
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️

I have to say that was a great story, of love friendship and of course VAMPIRES with a huge cliffhanger. I have written this review like six times and just end up rewriting it. Ultimately what I want you the potential readers to know the following. This book is funny, captivating, intriguing and very intense. There are a few mildly spicy moments, and there are some triggering scenes as well. Overall a good vampire story 🖤

The MMC Sebastian and his 2 best friends are the humans of the story. And then we meet the immortals, 3 beautiful women Vampires that will change all their lives forever. The main FMC being one of the vampires named Leona; a beautiful redhead that is drawn to Sebastian in a way she just can’t quite understand why.

I won’t get to into the details of the story, because this is definitely one of those things that you literally have to read it for yourself to understand how good it truly is. My only issue with this book was that it could have been a bit longer to give us more details and information about their world. But there is a part 2 and I can’t wait to read it.

This book has the following:
🖤found family
❤️‍🔥past trauma
🖤death/murder of parents
❤️‍🔥r@pe
🖤kidnapping
❤️‍🔥touch her and d!e
🖤slow burn
❤️‍🔥enemies to lovers
🖤mental health abuse

I wanted to add a special Thank You for the author, specifically to the special friend she lost almost a year ago. To learn the book is in her honor and will be releasing on her passing anniversary truly broke me. Becca Prince from this story of love for your friends, shows how much you were loved by your friend K.B. 🥰

I just want to thank K.B. Casimir and Truly Yours PR team, for allowing me the privilege to read this ARC.

Let me start by saying the dedication on this book tore at my heartstrings 😭 I know Becca is proud of you 🫶🏼

Now onto the nitty gritty 👇🏼

As you guys know I love me a good vampire story (forever team Edward) so when I see one, ya knowww I gotta read it!

This book had me laughing with the banter between Lenora (main vamp babe) and Sebastian (main human hottie) the spice level was lower but there is one quote in particular that I literally lost it at. Swipe left to see it 🤭

I did not realize that this was the first book so at about 85% in I was sweating thinking how in the ever living hell are they going to wrap this up in the few pages that are left?! (It’s only about 200ish pages so ya girl was NERVY)

NOPE. I didn’t see the cliff and walked straight off of it into the pit of cliffhanger dispare.

anyways, this was a pretty solid debut and I’m excited to check out the next one!

Okayyyyy where to start

-this was written like a bad fan fiction that you almost can’t put down because you honestly have no clue where we are going with the plot but I’m interested enough in the romance of it all to keep going.

-let’s talk about seb. oh my god brother you are a grown ass man and you are bitching a crying about what exactly that your friends want to become vampires??? Like you say you are absolutely okay with dying but “dying to become immortal” is where you draw the line? Very confused. especially when he was so pissed at Leona after he was turned like bestie boy she did not do that to you. Your so called best friend did that and frankly she had no problem throwing away your values and if you took an ounce of time to let them explain that you maybe wouldn’t be so ungodly mean to the person you supposedly cared so much about??

-Leona my love my life you can do no wrong I love you so much but pleaseeee baby girl why are you speaking in fucking sonnets I get you are 300 years old but no real person speaks like that. I’m also looking at you seb 👀

-lastly THE DETAILED RAPE SCENE then Jesus Christ you had to have Leona tell the reader that he did it while she was unconscious oh my god that scene made me almost stop reading it all together because that was so fucking unnecessary like he can be a dick bag and she can talk about him being selfish in bed and him taking advantage of her but it suits no one ESPECIALLY the plot to add that in there

All to wrap up I gave it 3 stars because there is so much potential here for an amazing love story about enemies to lovers to enemies to hopefully lovers again but some themes just fell flat for me I will be picking up the next book when it drops just because I’m nosy and needs to see where the hell this is going but much love

This three star rating is pretty generous, if I’m being honest. Bloodlust’s blurb really piqued my interest and I was so excited to see where the story went. Unfortunately, this was a major let down and needs some work. My biggest complaint is the confusing POV. The author wrote this in third person, but the POV would switch over from Sebastian to Lenora and vise versa within a sentence. When an author chooses to write in dual/multiple POVs, the POV should change at the beginning of a chapter. Sometimes authors can get away with POV changes with page breaks, but we aren’t given that here. The switch overs are very drastic and leads to confusion whilst reading. I also found the author’s writing style and story telling juvenile at best.

The plot wasn’t as engrossing as I’d hoped, and I struggled to stay committed to finishing this. Sebastian came off as whiny and immature when things involved his best friends and I kind of hated him. I get that he had a tough upbringing, but he faced his problems like a petulant child and didn’t treat those around him like fellow adults. Another gripe I have isn’t really anything wrong with the book - just a trope I don’t like. Insta love is one of my least favorite tropes and Bloodlust dripped with it. If you like insta love, annoying MMCs, and don’t mind poorly organized POVs, Bloodlust is probably a fine read. This just wasn’t my cup of tea but I’m sure there’s people out there who’d love this.

Thank you to Truly Yours PR and the author for an early copy.

I could NOT put this down. I would have read it in one sitting if I hadn’t been interrupted by real life around me… Just a couple chapters in, I was invested. I’m not a huge fan of male main characters, but Sebastian was the kind I could totally get behind - kind, funny, reflective. The setting REALLY sold me, as New Orleans is never a bad backdrop for anything… especially when we’re talking vampires. I can’t quite pinpoint what it was about this story that captured me so fully, but it felt special. Truly a good read.

The tiniest of spoilers are in this paragraph - if it’s even a spoiler? One minor criticism I have is the inclusion of a detailed r@pe scene - I felt a little caught off guard with that one, but it did serve the plot in some ways. I felt it could do without that level of detail, but that’s a personal opinion more than anything.

Overall, A+. 5 stars. I want to know more. I will be re-reading this and sharing with friends. If you’re on the fence, let this be your sign!

I am a vampire girly through and through. I love how almost all the characters are so lovable. I had been craving a vampire love story and boy did this one hit the spot! I think this is a great fantasy read with not an overwhelming amount of confusing world building. However, now I need the next one, like now lol. Thank you for the privilege of reading this!

3.5 ⭐️s.
First and foremost I would like to say that this book definitely should’ve had a trigger warning due to the graphic on page domestic abuse and rape. Everything else between the fmc and mmc was mostly closed door so I don’t fully understand why the fmc’s past abusive relationship was so graphically described.

The premise of this book is really good. I enjoyed meeting the characters and learning their histories, seeing how everyone came together. The fmc Leona is such a fun and unique character that I found very relatable in some situations. I would’ve liked to see more of New Orleans depicted and what it was like being in that environment as a vampire with the ability to do whatever you wish.

I might edit this review more tomorrow with updated thoughts🖤

❤️ ARC Review ❤️

4/5 ⭐️s - 3/5 🌶️s

✨ "My soul has yearned for you long before you ever graced this planet. It yearns no longer." ✨

Tropes:
- Found Family ❤️
- Enemies to lovers 🌶️
- Touch her and die 🩸

I really enjoyed meeting all of the different characters throughout this book. The glimpses into their pasts really made me want to see more of their histories as well as how that affects them in the present. In particular I'm hoping to see much more of Whitney and Damien 👀!! I'm definitely looking forward to reading book two in this duet, Bloodstained.

(I would DEFINITELY recommend looking into the trigger warnings for this book, as it does touch on some heavy topics)

I don't know if I overlooked it or just forgot or it wasn't mentioned, but I didn't realize Bloodlust was going to be a duology. So the cliffhanger was unexpected and disappointing for me.

✨️What I liked:
• Sebastian's sarcasm
• Seb & Leona's banter in the beginning
• Found Family dynamic w/ Seb, Victor, & Charlotte
• Vic & Charlie's emotional awareness and support of Seb's anxiety and feelings

🚫 What I didn't like:
• POV style
• Hate to instalove?
• Summary style writing
• Buildup with lackluster questionable cliffhanger ending
• Underdeveloped relationships
• Inconsistent spice

I really wanted to love this book, but I just didn't. It was hard for me to get through it. It often felt like reading a summary rather than experiencing events through the characters.

I loved how Victor and Charlotte were so caring and aware of Seb's feelings and fears. I loved how they made him open up and talked him through his panic. Victor laying on the floor with him was so loving. I wanted more of that trio.

The relationship between Seb and Leona had potential but was rushed. Seb was anti-vampire/Leona, literally telling her to go away, to having 1 text convo and phone call, and 1 date then it's "I'll die for you" instalove? All before they even kissed. There just wasn't enough to make me feel it.

Then they have sex with some detailed spice scenes , and suddenly, they become closed door/ fade to black summarizing. It felt like there were more scenes and details given to the SA and R*pe throughout the book. Very disappointing.

I didn't like how far into the book backstories were given about Leona's friends. At that point, I didn't care. Also, I did not like Piper's backstory at all. The way she spoke to her mother and her ideals did not fit the timeline of 1705.

There is so much build-up regarding all-powerful Gideon for such an anti-climactic fight and ending. Nothing about the ending makes me want to read book 2.

𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒓: Given ARC to read for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.

"Hopefully Pookie's [the 75 year old neighbor's dog] virgin ears didn't hear any of that."

that line is colleen hoover-level bad. this book was awful. also BTW BEWARE IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING PICKING THIS BOOK UP. IT HAS AN ON-PAGE RAPE SCENE WRITTEN IN EXPLICIT DETAIL. THERE WAS NO TRIGGER WARNING FOR THIS.

i'm upset it took me 5 days to read this 257 page long book. it wasn't good. that's why it took so long. i dreaded picking it up. if you enjoyed this book what is wrong with you. like genuinely. have you ever read a well-written book before. i understand enjoying a shitty book if it's fun but this book wasn't fun.

the author choosing to market this book as "did you like twilight? what if bella was the vampire?" was definitely a choice. obviously it's not going to be 1:1 with twilight; that'd just be plagiarism. but it's bizarre to use that as a marketing tactic when the heroine isn't remotely similar to bella. i was hopeful at first, because the book was at least written in third person. the bare minimum, hooray! this book would've been exponentially worse had it been written in pov swapping 1st person. the writing style wasn't terrible, although at times it was extremely trite and obnoxious. the author also has this innate refusal to utilize pronouns or the characters' names during scenes, and instead constantly refers to them as "the blonde" or "the redhead" or "the brunette" etc. there was one sentence that started like this:

The blonde, the redhead, and the brunette [...]

like are we fr... constantly referring to people as "the blondes" was sickening because there are like three blonde characters in this book, and in some scenes they would blur together because the author would refuse to use their names. truly i don't understand people's aversions to using proper nouns (LIKE GIVEN NAMES) or pronouns in their writing when it offers more clarity, and is overall going to make the writing flow and sound better.

to get into the meat of this book...

it was instalove. i can forgive instalust. i don't mind instalust (as long as it doesn't follow with smut lmfao. you can be attracted to someone and lustful without having to write gratuitous sex scenes) as much as instalove. but this was instalove in one of the most cringe ways i've ever seen. the author's dialogue was just terrible. it was embarrassing. it wouldn't even be fitting to a script to a show or movie. it was a clear attempt at trying to be profoundly romantic, but it was just absolutely beyond cringe and hard to read because it was giving me so much secondhand embarrassment. it was not good. like, isn't sebastian like 28??? if i did my math right lmao??? but they all talk in dialogue like they didn't mature past 14-16. it's insane. it's immature and childish and just terrible writing.

there was also the ON PAGE RAPE SCENE like are you fucking kidding me? in what world do we need to depict that? are we serious? it's 2024. it should be standard for books to have trigger warnings available. i don't mind blood. i don't mind violence. i will overlook mentions of SA in general, if it's applicable to someone's backstory (although i don't necessarily agree with people weaponizing SA as a common plot device, unless it's purely for visibility and awareness purposes). but writing a rape scene in EXPLICIT DETAIL??????

the plot was terrible. the pacing was god awful. the instalove ruined the book. leona was instantly pining over sebastian in a way that would make edward cullen cringe. nothing happened in this book until the end. like the villain, gideon, showed up once and then not again until the rape scene. here's the synopsis on the back of the book btw:

In the heart of enchanting New Orleans, Sebastian Beliveau battles a treacherous vampire coven to save his friends. Amidst the shadows of the city's mystique, he discovers unexpected love with Leona, a haunted vampire with a dark past. As their destinies become entwined, a gripping narrative of sacrifice, forbidden romance, and relentless struggle against a malevolent foe takes center stage.

Set against the rich and evocative backdrop of Louisiana, "Bloodlust" beckons readers into a world where the line between ally and enemy blurs, and the supernatural becomes an irresistible force. This must-read for fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy promises a spellbinding journey where passion collides with danger, leaving you thirsting for more in a city where every shadow conceals secrets and every heartbeat echoes the pulse of forbidden love.

so let's break that down. there was nothing gripping about this narrative btw. it was boring and uneventful until literally the end. the romance was just instalove and zero development. this is NOT a must-read. quite frankly the book failed to deliver on its promise of being "spellbinding." it just made me want to vomit. i cringed through the entire book. the synopsis makes this book sound far more interesting and eventful than it actually is. like i truly mean it, nothing happened in this book. the synopsis is misleading in its suggestion that sebastian is battling this vampire coven, when really he's just arguing with the coven the entire book "DON'T TURN MY FRIENDS INTO VAMPIRES UGHHHHHH" and shooting gideon with a gun at the very end like? lmfao? it makes it seem like he's at war with a vampire coven the entire book but he's not. like. this is cringe. the synopsis is written better than the entire book.

also here's one of my favorite excerpts:

"Don't," Sebastian said. "Don't ask me that. You can't possibly be asking me that. This is insane," he said, laughing in disbelief. "I feel like I'm in some sort of fever dream," he said, bringing his hands up to his face, his fingers rubbing his eyes.

"Leona said she visited you," Victor said. "She said you had a lot of questions."

"So what?" Sebastian said, turning from him. I just found out vampires are real. Of course I had questions. Doesn't mean I want to be like you. If anything, I want it even less."

"Well..." Charlotte said, shooting Victor a look. [more]

like how many times is the author going to write "said" on a single page. breaking dialogue up that many times in one paragraph and saying "said" for each one is fucking criminal btw. like?????

the love confession scenes in this book were soooooo bad. i cringed for each one like it was incredibly bad. the dialogue is just. so. awful. the editing issues everywhere were so glaring. this was not a good book and i really regret purchasing this lol.

also none of the characters had any kind of distinct personality. like, none. not even a little bit. they had no personality. they were so bland and boring, and the explanations of backgrounds and traumas over and over was so unbelievably repetitive. this book was so much tell, not show.

ARC review for Bloodlust by K.B. Casimir

Thanks to K.B. Casimir & Truly Yours PR for the ARC opportunity!

Featured tropes: enemies-to-lovers (on his part), insta-love (on her part), paranormal/vampires, found family, slow-ish burn, some mild, open door spice

Trigger warning: sexual and physical assault both occur as a reference in the past and on page. My ARC copy didn't include that TW up front. I'm not against reading things with these traumas but prefer to know up front so I'm a little more mentally prepared (they did send out a TW email after the ARCs were sent which was appreciated). Not sure if they've updated the material but, if not, be warned.

Review: 2.5/5

I had high hopes for this book after reading the synopsis. For a debut novel, it's not bad but I was hoping for a lot more.

Things I liked:
- Despite being a human among a coven of vampires, Sebastian gives no effs.
- Charlotte is a HBIC who gets sh*t done. My kinda girl.
- Quick read at just about 230 pages (I also dislike this).
- One of my favorite lines of dialogue ever (see end of review).

Things I disliked or missed the mark:
- The book is just about 230 pages. Parts of it felt choppy and rushed and there's a lot of story that could have been developed better with a little more length.
- The POV was confusing. Sometimes we were in Sebastian's POV but then, suddenly, we're in Leona's POV. It was hard to track sometimes which took me out of the story.
- The description really hammers on the New Orleans/Louisiana backdrop so I was expecting it to almost feel like one of the characters. NOLA is FULL of culture, landmarks, etc. and could fully have been more of the story. Short of knowing we're in NOLA, there are about four NOLA references, three of which are the French Quarter. It felt like a lot of NOLA hype with no NOLA flavor.
- Not sure how I missed it but this is the first of two books. Don't expect a conclusion like I was or at about the 85% mark, you'll be real confused about how this could possibly get wrapped up in what's left of the book.
- This is super minor but it stood out and felt weird to me. You will know what color hair every character has. If you miss it in the first description, don't worry, it will come up again. For some reason, there was a lot of "the redhead" and "the blonde" and "the dark-haired man" instead of the character's name. I have nothing against descriptors but it was excessive and honestly just had me laughing by the end because of how much of a focus it was throughout the book.

Overall, the book was okay. I think with a few more eyes on it while it was in development, it could have been really great. If book 2 ends up being a similar length, I'll probably give it a read just to know what happens but I don't see myself coming back for a re-read and will probably forget about it quickly.

All that being said, I will leave you with what is possibly one of my favorite lines of dialogue I've ever read. I burst our laughing when I read it and still giggle thinking about it.

I tell you, I lost it and cackled again just now while I copied the quote down for this review because, damn, it's just so funny.

I really liked this book! This was a quick read that was enjoyable to read. From the time that i opened up to the first page, to closing the very last, I was enamored with the plot line & the characters! Just within the first chapters i was swooning and laughing over Sebastian and Leona, and fell in love with each of their vibes and them as a couple immediately. Their protection and devotion to one another is everything.

Sebastian:
Not only is his name attractive, but i loved that he was a cute little shy guy in the beginning who had literally the most honest & realistic reactions to how he was introduced to supernaturals - so off the bat, he’s incredibly relatable. He’s SO funny with Leona, Charlotte & Victor - his banter with all and each of them are one of my favorite things to witness while reading this novel. I was admittedly laughing out and i’m eager to reread while listening to the audiobook to hear them as if they were real people.

Leona:
I loved her as a character, she’s so fiery and badass, and for all the right reasons. she’s been through hell and back and still olds her head high, and loves with all her heart for the people she holds close to her. I felt for her while reading her story in this book, I wanted to reach out and give her a big hug for the things she was put through, especially with Gideon.

Charlotte & Victor:
I loved these two. As the best friends of Sebastian, I could practically feel their love & yearning for happiness for Sebastian emanating through the kindle pages.

“You deserve your chance at a normal life. At happiness. That’s what I want for you. I want you to go through life without fearing that someone will take everything from you. I want you to laugh with your friends, to enjoy this never-ending story that’s being written as we speak. You are worthy of love, Leona. You are worthy of all the things you dream of. No man, monster, or being, no matter how powerful or ancient, deserves to take that from you.”

Bloodlust is shorter book about Sebastian and what happens after his friends introduce him to a vampire coven where he meets Leona.

This was honestly a pretty good read in my opinion. It was easy and fun.

A few things I found that made the read a bit difficult for me.

- the POV hopping between Leona, and Sebastian were quite confusing for me. I have ADHD and with this book I had to go back and read several times to figure out who is feeling what I’m currently reading about. I think if the author labeled when the POV switched it would have been much easier to understand.
- I also found that quite a few things that could have been included in the story and made me more attached to the character personally, were taken out or done “off book” in specifically referring to the goodbye between Sebastian and his friends Charlie and Victor. I expected a gut wrenching goodbye full of his confusion but also support and it was all done off book and we only get to hear about it after the fact. I feel like for me, I would have been more attached to Sebastian as a character if I got to see that.
- in general I felt a lot of info that could have extended this book and made it even better were left out or glossed over. It was a great plot and story but I felt it was missing MORE.

Overall it was a pretty good read. I would recommend it to someone looking for a quick fantasy read with some good romance and vampires. I look forward to seeing where the author takes the story with the second book!

CHECK BOOK TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING!! It contains R*pe/Non-con.

₊˚⊹♡ Rating: 3 / 5 Stars ₊˚⊹♡

⋆˚✿˖° Review:
this was a fun, short read of the first book in an upcoming duology. it is heavy on insta-love so i think anyone who loves that trope will enjoy this book a lot. it has a nice mix of romance, spicy, world building, and character explaining. i enjoyed being able to learn about the past of most of the characters as it made for a great way to understand them more and truly realize why each character is the way they are. i enjoyed the vulnerableness from each character. it was a bit confusing at the beginning as so many characters were introduced without context so i was often wondering how someone even came into the story. also it is 3rd person so pov shifts from leona (fmc) and sebastian (mmc) without it explicitly saying so it can be hard to follow.

♡ What I Loved:
- vampires
- world building & character building
- new orleans influences
- protective mmc

.ᐟ What I Didn't Like:
- different povs without letting me know who's pov im reading
- confusion with lots of characters at the beginning
- odd pacing throughout, would be very slow then very fast

જ⁀➴ Spice Level: 2/5

— ୨୧₊˚ Would I Recommend It?:
yes! i can tell the author put a lot of care and thought into each character & their story. everyone deserves to see an indie author's hard work & i think bloodlust makes for a fun, short read! it setup the second book nicely and i think it will be a good duology!

₊˚⊹♡ Conclusion:
overall there were things i love and didnt love about the book, but i can see the author's hard work & i think it was an enjoyeable read. worth a read to everyone, and i enjoyed the optimistic romance. it is nice to have optimism in a story whenever things seem forbidden ₊˚⊹♡

Thank you to Yours Truly PR and the author, K.B. Casimir, for the ARC opportunity.

As this was an ARC read, I don’t know if the trigger list was added to publication. I truly hope it was because this book includes r*pe, abuse, kidnapping, domestic violence, & physical violence and if it wasn’t for the follow up from Yours Truly PR, I wouldn’t have been prepared for it at all.

I wanted to hold off on my review since it is a bit lower. I was very much looking forward to this book, as the premise seemed right up my alley. I love a good vampire romance. Unfortunately, this story fell a bit flat for me. I think the biggest challenge for me was the POV switches and writing style. The POV switches could be very confusing at times, where one character is talking and then it quickly moves to another and I didn’t realize who was speaking. I also thought the writing style was juvenile, which can be fine, but at times word choices were interesting.

The story has potential. I was a bit more invested when things really got going, but I felt like it started getting rushed toward the end. The characters have potential, but I feel they were underdeveloped and just kind flat. I didn’t care for the insta-love between Sebastian and Leona. It was a complete 180 and didn’t fit to me. There’s so many elements that could work so I hope that maybe things are a little more fleshed out in the next book.

I think one of my favorite lines was when Leona stood up to Gideon. I was thinking “SPEAK YOUR TRUTH GIRL” but sadly it was cut short. This book ends in a cliff hanger and I thought it was kind of unexpected. I do not know if I would pick up book 2.

Disclaimer: Given ARC to read for honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.

Overall, a really solid book. I find books set in New Orleans really never disappoint, as it itself is such a colorful, magical city that it's easy to paint it as a beautiful background, and this story is no exception. Sebastian and Leona are a truly adorable couple and I loved their fun banter back and forth, and his relationship with Victor and Charlotte is truly special. I loved the lore of this universe's vampires, and it makes it an interesting read to see how they develop over the course of the story. Gideon is a solid, real, true, unredeemable villain.

Now having said all of that:

oh dear christ i cannot for the life of me do 3rd person perspective stories. I did not know going into reading it that it would be written that way, or at the very least that it would stay that way (like the first chapter was 3rd person, then would switch to either Sebastian and/or Leona's POV), and so for me that was a real struggle. I was able to power through for the sake of being intrigued by the story, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I love really getting into the character's heads and I realize that's where a majority of my interest level when reading stems from. For that reason alone, I am hesitant to read the sequel (as this is a duet and ends on a cliffhanger) when it is released. Thankfully it is far enough off at this time (as this book was only just released about a month ago) so I will have time to mull over my decision.

BUT this is purely a personal opinion, and not telling of the story itself. If you're like me and prefer 1st person, I would recommend steering clear. But if you don't have a opinion either way, I do recommend giving this story a chance!

*received an arc of the book from the author in exchange of an honest review*

Tropes:
🔺 enemies to lovers
🔺 slow burn
🔺 vampire/human romance
🔺 found family
🔺‘touch her & die vibes’

The story follows the MMC Sebastian and his friends as they are introduced to the life of vampires. Sensation was essentially adopted by his two befriends (married to each other) and they take care of him. Sebastian’s friends introduce him to their new bitey friends which is where he meets Leona (FMC), a vampire he despises and what’s nothing to do with. As time passes, the two end up falling for each other despite Sebastian’s blatant hatred towards her kind and what they stand for - especially since he’s losing his friends to them since they are asked to be turned.

The first about two thirds of the book is story building and relationship building. It feels as if nothing is really happening so it’s definitely a slow build up. The relationship between the two MC’s feels fast a far as the MMC changing his mind - the hatred he has for their kind quickly disappearing as he finds himself drawn to the vampire he can’t stop thinking about.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

They would take care of him like he was their own blood, and never ask for a thing in return. It was almost as natural as breathing for them. The least Sebastian could do was go to a few of their parties when they begged him to. And he never said no to good food and free booze.

Romantic relationships aside, I like the explanation between the MMC and his friends. The author really goes into depth explaining how they find each other - emphasizing how far they would go for one another. It wasn’t just a, “we have none each other since diapers,” but it instead explained why they went through in order to have the strong bond that they had for each other.

*TRIGGER WARNING FOR SA*
I unfortunately started reading the book before I was made aware of the SA trigger warning. I wasn’t prepared for it and had to immediately put the book down. It was poor luck - I received an email warning me that the content warning was unfortunately forgotten literally an hour later.

Thankfully, I am blessed since this is not a trigger for me. It didn’t go into detail, but the author didn’t really build up for the moment. One moment they are arguing, and the next thing I knew he was SA’ing her. The entire thing is about 10 paragraphs, followed by her being beaten by the antagonist. If this is not something you can stomach - I do not recommend the book.

“I’m going to try anyway,” he mumbled. “It’ll at least distract him long enough for one of you to go after him and try and knock him down.”

“Sebastian can hold his own,” Victor said, not wanting anyone else to dismiss him. It was pointless. “I’ve seen him in a fight. I know it’s a human against a vampire, but he won’t run and hide. He always finds his way out,” he smirked, draping his arm over his shoulder.

Sebastian nodded and looked at the other three.

“It’s settled then. Let’s go fuck him up.”

You ain’t special bro. Well… ehh. As far as the characters go, I had mixed feelings over both of the feelings MMC’s. Sebastian seemed a bit whiney at times, but I had to remember that he suffered from anxiety from past trauma. I myself suffer from a panic disorder so I understand the emotions, but sometimes it felt like a bit much. Leana felt like a doormat honestly. She wasn’t my favorite a few times and I just wanted to smack her head for being dumb. It took me a bit to grow attached to the characters, but I did find myself rooting for them by the end of the story.

Overall I did enjoy the book. It ended in a cliffhanger so beware! I am excited to see what follows the team! I think it felt more like an into book to me - preparing me for the sequel and what’s to come.

Bloodlust by K.B. Casimir

This is a paranormal romance mainly set in present time New Orleans. I really enjoyed it being set there because of all the magic, voodoo, and other lore already believed in that area it makes this a great and believable setting for this romance to take place. This story follows two main groups of people. Sebastian and his best friends and then Leona, her friends, and her sire. Leona has been on the run from her sire for the past three hundred years trying to find a way to permanently escape him or kill him. Sebastian struggles with a history of depression and is starving for love, while his best friends Victor and Charlotte are craving to learn more of the secrets of the world. Victor and Charlotte discover Piper and Whitney, Leona's best friends, and discover vampires are real and want to join that world. Piper and Whitney see an opportunity to build their coven so they can take out Gideon, Leona's sire. This starts the crazy adventure in which Sebastian ends up falling in love with Leona. Sebastian makes it very clear he never wants to be immortal though. This book is a fun paranormal romance, however, there were some graphic scenes that felt unnecessary. I also wish Leona and Sebastian's love story would have had more of an enemies to lover arc instead of Sebastian going from being hateful and scared to head over heals in love with her in no time. To me the romance didn't feel very natural or believable. It was still a fun book and it is only the first book in the series. I am curious to see where the series goes.

🧛‍♀️The banter between Sebastian and Leona was witty and funny right from the start! I was so entertained because the back and forth dialogue seemed like real conversations and comments, especially after finding out she was a vampire. I loved their love💕 There were so many good quotes!

🤝 The friendships were heart-warming, sweet and showed their loyalty to one another. You can feel the love between Sebastian, Charlotte and Victor and how they became a family and support one another (especially when it comes to Sebastian's anxiety/mental health).

🧛‍♂️ I will say though, it seems there aren't many vampires roaming around, which seems odd (or it's just different because I'm clearly comparing it to other books/stories). The book mainly focuses on the love relationship, so I found myself asking a lot where the story was going, but I'm assuming that'll come in book 2. The big conflict didn't happen until the very end, and after what DID happen, I'll definitely read the next to see how it all plays out!

It was a super easy read. I finished it in less than a day!

tropes:
▸enemies to lovers
▸forbidden love
▸touch her and d1e
▸found family
▸insta-love
▸past trauma

When Sebastian's best friends, the only family he knows, wants to join the vampire coven, he opposes it and tries to persuade them not to join. on the other hand, Sebastian also cannot refuse a woman of that vampire coven who attracts his heart, even if his life is at stake.
I had a fun reading this book. the conflicts are not too heavy, easy to read in one sitting. I like the banter between the MCs, the worldbuilding is great, the characters are lovable except the villain of course. but sometimes Sebastian's character kind of bothered me, several times he acted like a tantrum teenager, especially when it came to Gideon (the villain of this story) there should be someone who hits him on the head so that he introspects, that his current self is nothing compared to the villain's power. although I like his consistency in refusing to join the vampire coven until the very end. the multiple POV is also kind of confusing, sometimes I forgot whose POV is this..whose POV is this..
This book ends on a cliffhanger, but it looks like the next book will be more interesting. I'm looking forward to see where the sequel takes the story. don't forget to check the TW/CW before you read this book!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to K.B Casimir & Truly Yours PR for the opportunity♥️♥️
