Hearts of Fortune

“If anyone objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace.”
I objected. I seriously freaking objected.
But if I dared to say anything and screw up my mother’s marriage to her new richer-than-God husband she’d murder me in a mass of tulle, and bury the body where nobody would ever find me.
I’m stuck in this gated community filled with cheating husbands and doped-up trophy wives, forced to live under the same roof as my three hideous new stepbrothers.
Only… hideous was a stretch.
It was an undeniable fact that all three of the Aston brothers were hot as sin.
It’s too bad filthy rich playboys aren’t my style. Especially ones I’m forced to call family.
I’ve made a vow to stay the hell away from them.
Except… I’m a brand new toy they really want to share.

It’s the tension, I love the tension !! I understand that forbidden stepbrother romances aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they are mine…give me ten more cups.

I initially picked up this book because the synopsis reminded me of the ‘Stepford Wives’ Movie. I love books where characters hide behind this perfect, rich facade, but really it's all a carefully crafted lie.

The plot follows Dempsey as she is thrown into this new family dynamic after her mother marries a man richer than god. She has to adjust to a new lifestyle, new college and new ‘family’. We are using the term ‘family’ loosely because it’s not all bonding and family dinners. Included in her new ‘family’ are her 3 stepbrothers.

I was slightly confused by the main characters' ages at the beginning, but they all seem to be university-age (19/20 or 21/22...maybe). This also isn't really a dual POV. We get one MMC POV in the beginning to show their initial opinions on Dempsey and then it is purely the FMC POV, which I think I preferred anyway.

The MMCs all came across as a little smug when first introduced, but as the story developed they all turned into caring, slightly cheesy and pretty possessive characters. I kind of the jealousy/ possessiveness, as it came from both the MMC & FMC.

The men all had pasts that influenced their relationship with the FMC. Whether it was previous issues with abandonment or needing to be in control.

I'd say this was pretty Spice-heavy (from what I remember), but it doesn't happen instantly. There was a big build-up with a lot of angst and sexual tension. FYI there is an OW scene at the very start (not when he is with the FMC), but I really liked this book so I'm choosing to ignore it.

Throughout the book, there is a constant threat/ secret that Dempsey is dealing with. Sometimes I liked this twist and sometimes I didn't think it was needed, but I definitely appreciated it more in the second half of the book and at the cliffhanger.

I thought this was a standalone, but it is apparently not. I missed the text saying ‘Book 1’ on the cover. Regardless I'm looking forward to Book 2, as I need to see how they deal with the cliffhanger.

General: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🫦🫦🫦🫦🫦

Tropes:
🫦 forced proximity
🫦 why choose
🫦 billionaire
🫦 stepsiblings

I just finished it (started it yesterday) and I still feel hot.
Be aware to read this story somewhere comfy. ;)

The plot is easy to follow and keeps you curious about what will happen next. I really love the MCs, especially the FMC who struggles with her past and has trust issues. She also has a good sense of humor. The 3 MMCs begin to grow to your heart with every detail you learn about them. They each have their own story to tell.

I can’t wait for the second part to be released.

So grab this book and a towel and enjoy your time with your new book boyfriends .

Quotes:
What the actual fuck. Was this guy created by the gods? He was so damn hot I was in danger of panting right in front of him.

"God, you're such a hot little bitch, Sass. So damn tight."

"What would your new daddy say if he saw you getting fucked by both your brothers, Dempsey?"

"Now are you going to shut the fuck up or am I going to have to tie you up?"

I recieved an ARC of this book and this is my honest review🫶🏻

HOTTEST BOOK OF 2024!!!🥵🌶️⭐️

I’ve only read a few why-choose romances, but this one was SO GOOD! The Chemistry between Dempsey and her guys is such a great combo of hot and caring that it checks ALL the boxes.

There’s suspense, and romance, and friendships, and family drama, and really just all the makings for a great story!

LOVE this book, HIGHLY recommend that you add to your TBR and get your hands on it when it is released!!💕

The spice be spicing! I loved this delicious RH romance.

Dempsey moves with her mother to live with her new stepfather and 3 stepbrothers. One problem from this new life she has gained, is that though her stepbrothers are pains in her ass, they are smoking hot and she kinda can't stop thinking about them.

In between all the smut there is an under current of a sinister threat of Dempsey's birth father... we don't get all the details til near the end, but I was hooked.

What's to love:
RH romance
Forced proximity
Billionaire

How is it two weeks later and I’m STILL thinking about this book. I’m absolutely obsessed. The author absolutely outdid herself with this book!

This book follows Dempsey who is starting over in a new town after her mom married a billionaire. What she didn’t expect is for her new stepdad to also come with three incredibly hot sons… one tattooed, broody business man, a playboy football player, & a tortured artist. What could do wrong living under the same roof as the three men who are sinfully beautiful & completely off limits…

Be sure to check TW’s because this book does have some darker elements to it. It also does leave off on a cliff hanger but it’s WORTH IT! I can’t wait for book 2! Thank you so much E. Winn for the ARC.

This story follows Dempsey, who is forced to move in with her mother while on the run from her father. Newly married to a billionaire, her mother’s home includes Dempsey’s three infuriating stepbrothers. But when lines begin to blur, can they resist temptation and keep their hands to themselves?

This was a super spicy and fun read with enough plot to keep you engaged. I loved how hot-headed Dempsey is and how she stands up for herself. In terms of the stepbrothers, I have to say Dacre takes the top spot as my favorite MMC, followed by Sinclair, and then Presley. Dacre has that broken-artist vibe while still being a passionate lover. Sinclair is a dominant who craves control, but watching him unravel for Dempsey was so fun. Presley, on the other hand, feels like an immature frat boy—flirty and unpredictable but entertaining nonetheless.

The pacing of the book is fast and somewhat choppy. By “choppy,” I mean it often skips ahead days or weeks between chapters. The chapters themselves are short, and the overall plot moves quickly. Despite this, I didn’t mind the fast pace—it made the book easy to read and kept the spice front and center. Speaking of which, the paint scene with Dacre was absolutely superior!

The story does end on a cliffhanger, so I’m definitely looking forward to the next book when it comes out.

I can't wait to see what future books in this series will bring. For a debut, this was really really good! I finished it in one sitting. I do have to say this book was very smut driven and less plot driven, so keep this in mind before starting the book 💌

Thank you Love Notes PR for sending me an ARC of this streamy, really enjoyable book!

Hearts of Fortune is a MFMM why choose, billionaire, step brother romance. And if this sentence didn´t convinced you yet, well you will be missing out!
I really liked the overall plot, but mainly I liked the way it build up to the spicy part. It is always difficult to write why choose and actually build a connection in between the characters before the steamy parts prevales and E. Winn definitely does it well.
I liked all the boys, Sin, Dacre and Pres were perfectly balanced, and even if they were hot as hell and had some very cliché traits, they also had so many layers to they personalities that I really enjoyed! Also Presley... I just wanted to nurse him, love him, everything him.

Dampsey on the other end frustrated me immensly on some occasions. I know why she behaves like she does, but still! Just open up to them! They proved you you could trust them time and time again!

Overall the plot was really engaging and I loved the balance between story and spice.
The only downside to me was that sometimes we jump from scene to scene without much of a sense. Like very meaningful scenes where the characters make some progress, than change chapter to three day/ one week later. That felt a little ruched and to speed up the story.

#review - hearts of fortune (arc) ❤️‍🔥

Firstly, I would like to thank Love Notes PR and E. Winn for the opportunity to read this as an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!

Secondly, wow. I applied for this arc, simply because of the stepbrothers trope. Not gonna lie, when done right, I tend to enjoy it. And it did not disappoint!

I was glued to this book from the start, finishing it in 2 days, I just couldn’t put it down. Is it a literary masterpiece? I wouldn’t think so. BUT it is just good when you want to read something that’s not like super heavy on the plot. Especially if you like reading smut.

Hearts of Fortune follows Dempsey, who is the new stepdaughter of Byron Aston, a billionaire that has 3 sons, Sin, Dacre and Presley. She wants to stay want from them but she is the new toy they want to share.

The characters:
Almost until the end of the book, I felt like Dempsey’s character was a little too flat, mostly because she had like these huge secret that made her act the way she does but it’s only revealed in the end, so the reader feels no connection to her character.

On the other side, the Aston brothers felt so real to me, I could really connect and relate to them and everything they have been through (especially dacre 🫣).

The writing & plot:
In the beginning, it felt a little weird to me because I’m not used to read dark romance. But it’s a really easy read and fast paced book, like there’s not a dull moment, something is always happening.
Although it was very heavy on the spice frequency, it is not necessarily heavy on the level of spice!

It does end on a cliffhanger so I’ll definitely be snatching up an arc for the next book 🤭

tropes:
〉stepbrothers
〉forbidden romance
〉why-choose
〉billionaire

I really connected with each of the characters in this, the reason for it not being five stars is because the amount of spice in the book really took away from the overall plot.

The storyline was quite fast paced. I actually really ended up liking this about it, sometimes i feel like books are way to slow it gets boring.

It does end on a cliffhanger, i didn’t know this when i started reading it. If/when there is a next book, i will definitely be reading it!

Thankyou to E. Winn and Love notes PR for gifting me an e-copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Omg I didn’t realize this just came out and there’s no sequel yet. It ended on a cliffhanger.
This was actually really enjoyable, I liked the characters and the dynamics. Learning more about them all was very interesting. I actually like all the male leads pretty equally. The main character was enjoyable as well, she made me laugh, but was kind of stupid at times.

I don’t think I was the audience for this book, so keep that in mind reading my review.

I appreciate Love Notes PR for sending me an ARC.

The idea of this book intrigued me for sure but I think the execution missed the mark for me.

I didn’t feel the chemistry between the main characters. It was purely lust but the author tried to convey some deep connection, but I didn’t read it.

I also had NO idea where the story was going the entire time. Did not see the sort of mafia twist at the end. I knew something weird was going on with her dad. But it was very flimsy.

The spice was alright though. Except the scene with paint. I couldn’t not stop thinking about paint being in her business 😂

I think the way in which this book was marketed threw me off while reading. It was said to be a mix of magnolia parks and Tate James (?) and it was definitely not magnolia parks es que at all.

Regardless of that, I found the storyline to be a bit messy and the book kind of dragged a bit. It would have benefited from being 100 pages shorter.

I appreciate the opportunity as an arc reader but it was just not for me

For every Paper Princess fan who’s thinking that Ella should’ve ended up with Royal brothers if Easton’s situation had turned out differently, this book is for you😘

I was gifted this ARC omg thank you for giving me a chance for reading this one♥️

———

This book started off strong with Sinclair’s POV in the beginning. But nope, it isn’t dual POV or multiple—because we got reverse harem in this case. The rest of the story will be on Dempsey’s and perhaps we would get some from boys’ POV in the next book.

Did I say next book? YES, this book giving me major CLIFFHANGER lstg I don’t know where can I find the patience for waiting the next one.

Was this a quick reading? Not really but I did finish it in one sitting lol everyone except Dempsey, her boys, and Arena were pissing me off. I hate all of em. I hope their glorious fckedup society get burned in the end.

I couldn’t get myself into giving this 5 stars because of the repetitions. When I was reading, I keep wondering how many times Dempsey had to say the word ‘hot’ to describe her stepbrothers? Like why is she keep telling me about the same damn thing after couple of pages in almost every damn chapter???

Okay girly, I get it. These Aston boys are HOT.

What I loved about this book was how it proved my prejudice wrong. Dempsey and the boys were having rocky ground at the start but the boys OMG Dacre, Presley, Sinclair… they just awesome. They were actually GOOD since the beginning😭😭😭

Oh and I can’t wait for the big reveal where everything just gonna explode. I. NEED. MORE. DRAMA.

Sooo when does the second book come out???

For real though, thank you E. Winn and Love Notes PR for the arc of Hearts of Fortune!! I love a good why choose book and this one delivered 100%.

Dempsey’s mom is choosing a new husband over her daughter, yet again, when she remarries Byron Aston. Not only does her new step father come with a new house with new societal expectations, but also three new stepbrothers, Sinclair, Dacre, and Presley. Those three aren’t particularly welcoming at first, which is fine by Dempsey because she isn’t planning on staying long. Her plan is to scrounge up enough money to leave this life and hideaway from both her mother and her estranged father.

But, things don’t go as planned as Dempsey starts to receive threatening letters from her father… and starts a relationship with not one, not two, but all three of her stepbrothers. The book ends on a cliffhanger and I desperately need the second book to be released right after the first one.

Just a few notes: there is lots of open door spice (yay!), all characters are over the age of 19 (even though they live at home — they attend a local college), and the three brothers are not related by blood (Dacre and Presley are both adopted and have different birth parents).

I loved all of the main characters in this book (by main I mean the four in the relationship and then Arena — Trenton and the parents can go eff themselves. Arena is a previous friend). E. Winn adds an extra layer of depth to each of them and I hope that those personalities can be explored even more in the next book.

I could not put this book down at night even though I desperately needed to be going to sleep 😅

Why THE FUCK this app doesn't have like a million stars? Cause HOF deserves a million stars.
I was intrigued the moment I saw this book up for an ARC. The forbidden romance? The tropes? I call it fate.
I requested.
I got it.
I saw it 3 days after the sending day.
Finished it in 2.
OH MY GOD THIS BOOK.
I won't ever EVER shut about this book. The tension. The writing. The guys. MAN, THE GUYS.
I don't think I can write a review without fangirling hard. HARD.
I am not into billion guys -Ana Huang's exception- but that exception just got widened by E.Winn.
I am still in shock. I am still screaming Dacre's name in my head.
Pure fire. Read it. Buy it. Shout it from the rooftops. Man, how tf I am expected to wait for the second book? And the first one isn't even out yet.
I am dying here.

forbidden trope, step brothers only 🤣
i read this on a whim, and while i’m glad i picked it up i just felt a little disconnected from the characters.
i do really like dempsey (our fmc) she doesn’t take shit, makes her own decisions and refuses to be dickmatized
it was the guys i didn’t really seem to care for, but i can sense that things will get better and more in depth as the series goes on.
we’re left in the dark about her past through and i’m on the edge of my seat to see more about her dad and everything with him.
i’m excited to see where the cliffy takes us because i’m kinda hoping we get another addition if you know what i mean…….

- ARC review -

After reading this book, I was actually left quite speechless. I usually don’t read any MMMF, or any multiple partnered books, but this was actually very good. I usually am all for one partner only, but this actually was very tastefully written. Each character had an actual storyline and personality, and it made sense. It wasn’t only confusing and all about sex (like other ‘why choose?’s’ are). You can’t help but fall for Sinclair, Dacre, and Presley. Each of them you just want to learn more about. I love the way they equally cared about Dempsey, and how they trusted each other so much, sharing Dempsey. It is definitely unconventional, but again - very surprisingly good! It ended on a HUGE cliffhanger. I cannot wait for a second - I hope a sequel is planned!!! I can’t wait for that because now I don’t know what to do with myself. LOL. All in all, very pleased !!!

Just wow ????
I was so hyped by the summary of this book and yeah, it's worth it. I didn't think that i'll love it as much as i do. But here i am, still in shock after reading the end and ready to read next book.
Unfortunately...i have to wait :((

Okay, so, this book is about Dempsey.
Dempsey's mother is marrying Byron Aston.
And with this beautiful, happy event, three stepbrothers make their way in Dempsey's life :

Sinclair, Dacre and Presley.

Right at the begin you know how much they are attracted to each others and in a way a was skeptical.
Like, already ?? And then, i was surprised, cause yeah, there's sexual tension and all but their relations were so well written ??

And i loved that. I loved seeing Dempsey build relationship with each characters. They're all different ?

“𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐲.” 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈’𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐛𝐨𝐲.

“𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲. 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐭.”

Dacre and Presley were my favs, there was so much sweetness ? It was si beautiful to discover the real them. And they deserve so much love.
I loved reading about them ans their relationship with Dempsey.

“𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬.” 𝐇𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐭, 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧. “𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞.”

Sinclair ? I love him too, but i'm feeling like i didn't read about him as much as i would like ? I need more and more ?? Even though i loved how his relationship with Dempsey was developed.

One thing i really loved was the nicknames thing.
Dacre calling Dempsey "Bambi"
Presley calming her "Sass"
And Sinclair calling her "Princess"
I'm loving it too much for my own sake.

"𝐌𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐬𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐬𝐨 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦."

And Dacre, Presley, Sinclairs's relationship ?? It was so heartwarming to see how much they care about each other.

I find that there was a certain depth for each person and more particularly for Dacre, Presley and Sinclair. And that’s what makes it all.
Concerning Dempsey I liked her quite well but for her, I found that she lacked depth, that it would have been good if her character had been more developed.
Of course she is the center of each relationship and her character accompanied by one of the MMCs is just incredible. But I found her to be a little less touching.

Like someone said here , the sex was sexing.
Everything was just hot, the tension, the making out part, everything ??
Usually I never mention sex scenes but this was necessary. They were nuggets. Thank god, no one around me speaks English and no one looks over my shoulder on public transport.

“𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐈’𝐦 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮.”

“𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞.”
𝐇𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦.

These passages don't speak to how amazing it was but I love them.

And gladly, it's not the main plot.
Not meaning to spoil, but can we talk about Dempsey's story ? The impact of her story on her behavior, and most of all, on the end of the book ??? I was so shocked.
Damn ???? It made everything better. It was so well written.

Besides, at 300 pages out of 314 I started to ask myself questions. So much hadn't happened, what do you mean there were only 14 pages left before the end? what was the ending going to be like?? I thought it was a standalone but LUCKILY not. So I was very happy to realize it.

In the end, yeah, i loved this book so much.

Thank you, E. Winn and Love Notes PR.

2.5*
I was hoping to love this, as I love a forced proximity stepbrother trope...and a whychoose? SIGN ME UP. But this felt so disconnected, with a lot of summarising and timeline hoping. So as a reader, I didn't feel enough connection as the author would just skip before you got to delve into deeper emotions or connections. The first weeks from when the FMC moved into the new family home are the important parts, where you are supposed to see all the disconnect between her and the MMCS being unhappy with the new living situation. Then you get the chemistry and situations where they get to know each other, and show vulnerability and connections form. I felt NONE of this, as the author just kept jumping forward in the timeline.
I enjoyed the spicy scenes, and thought they were well written. But I just didn't have any chemistry with the characters to enjoy it beyond that. I also didn't like that one of the MMCs had a long term girlfriend so the FMC becomes the OW. There are moments where she tells the MMC he has a GF so things can't continue, but then she gets jealous thinking about him having a GF. There doesn't seem any guilt or concern or doing this to another woman. That part gave me the ick, and I was disappointed she didn't have any remorse and could only focus on him being hot and that she wanted him, not anyone else's feelings.
The miscommunication was not for me, this is a trope that gets boring very quickly. I think the character connection would have been better if the FMC was open about the letters and her father, but instead she just hid it all and so other people get hurt and she keeps all the MMCs at length with only a physical connection. Honestly, no idea why she thought to hide everything.
You get hints of the characters past and their traumas/struggles with dealing with it, but it felt like the author favoured the spicy scenes and more descriptions/overviews rather than actually delving in to deeper emotions and topics. It isn't until around 80% that you get something more than surface level, and that is just from one MMC (Sin) but not so much with the other characters and they defintely don't take the time to learn more about the FMC.
I just want meaningful, all consuming connections with my spice...and without that they tend to fall a little flat.
Overall I think it had potential, and I like the characters the author creates, but that it needed more work on deeper emotions and to cut back on things that were just repetitive e.g. endless family parties/events, hook ups and thinking about the MCs being hot. And to also slow the timeline down more, and not keep skipping ahead and missing the character and relationship development.

I received the ARC of this book and… oh my fucking god…. I can’t explain the chokehold this book has on me right now!!! 🥵 I finished it in 10 hours. I didn’t stop. I couldn’t stop.

Ok. Where do I start?!

I fucking love Sinclair, I adore Presley and oh god… Dacre…. No words.

I love how their personalities start showing up the more they know each other. All of them had their soft side in their own way and I love that.

I read this without knowing anything about it except it was why choose and stepbrothers. I was sold with that but but damn… this author really knows how to make a why choose work!

The spice was spiciiiiiiing🥵 the tender moments were heart melting, the found family (lol literally and figuratively) was amazing, the caretaking had me swooning 😍

I loved everything about this book and I can’t FUCKING WAIT for the next one!!

This can be a book you read with one hand (iykyk)😏

I’m so interested in how the plot is going to be on the second one. Again. I can’t wait! 😭

A perfect example of why I only trust goodreads reviews. Thanks to a rec from a friend on here, this came onto my radar. I planned to read it later, but found myself between books last night with this still on my mind, and I'm embarrassingly weak for taboo fiction.

I was not disappointed.

I was worried in the beginning because there's a scene on page with an OW (whyyyyy do authors do this???? The author skipped the FMC's scene with OM, then had the FMC get hot and bothered watching one of the MMCs with OW irl) and there were other instances (that didn't go that far) with one of the others. BUT this is the rare book where this didn't bother me much after it happened, and I was able to get over it and enjoy the story.

And honestly it was good. It hit the spot for the taboo stepbrothers (3 of them) trope, and all of them ended up surprising me. None of them acted how I expected them to act, which was refreshing. There's the initial chapters where the book seems like it will take us in certain directions, and then the characters show deeper parts to their personalities. I actually loved how they treated her.

I thought I would hate the MMCs, but I really liked them and actually ended up side eyeing the FMC instead.

❌ SPOILERS❌

One of the MMCs is in a relationship that we later find out is a fake one to hide the "girlfriend's" girlfriend. But the FMC propositioned, kissed, and later slept with that MMC before he ever told her that. I lost so much respect for her after that, and her endless jealously any time they're all in public only made it worse. She also killed me with her out of sight out of mind take on the creepy letters she was getting, like it was going to go away if she just ignored it all. Girl....

And again, this is one book where this stuff didn't bother me as much as usual. Idk if it's because of how it was presented, or if it's because I read reviews and had warnings going in, but I wasn't MAD mad like I'd usually be.

Plus the fast burn taboo smut was there doing its thing. 🔥

This ended on a cliffhanger and I'm almost sad that I read it so soon because now I have to wait for the next book. However, it did NOT end how I thought it would either. Kudos for that. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending, and have a more "ooooh, I really can't wait" feeling for the next book instead of a "I will die if I don't know what happens next" feeling, which I appreciate. I can't do waits for sequels these days.

6/5⭐️
5/5 🌶️

Firstly I wanted to extend a big thank you to E. Winn & the LoveNotes PR team for allowing me the privilge of reading this book.

THIS BOOK. WOAH! Honestly, what a smokeshow.
I'll be honest, I went into this excited as the tropes had me interested, but I didn't have high expectations as fantasy romance is my ultimate fave genre and I've read SO many just romance novels lately that I felt a bit burn out. But MY GOD - THIS BOOK IS SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY.

From start to finish I was absolutely ROPED in, devouring every page as if it were the frist time I've ever eaten.

This was my first ever Reverse-Harem & lets just say - new fave trope UNLOCKED. I'm yet to psychologically unpack what it is about a reverse harem that just DOES it for me, but here we are.

The author in my opinion did an excellent job of executing the way in which Dempsey related to, connected with, and gravitated toward each of the Aston boys. So much so that *I* felt as though I couldn't "pick" who I felt more drawn to! I feel as though each of the brothers serves their own purpose, and each has something unique and valuable that the other might not naturall emby or possess. Each of those things amounting to everything Dempsey feels she not only needes, but desires and craves.

Dempsey's connection to each of them and the process of them all falling for her, and her, them - felt really natural and organic, void of any undertones of "greed" or "gluttony". The way in which it all came about felt so natural that it felt almost fated to me as the reader, without it sparkig any feelings of irk or judgement. The story line was executed so well that it felt as though the concept of reverse harem was something as natural and common in our society as a monogomus relationship.
This point feels really important to me as a reader, as this means this book has the potential to be quite versatile, inspiring intruigue among potential new readers.

There were MULTIPLE times I was in AWE of the direction of the story line, the character interactions eliciting PHYSICAL responses from me! The amount of times I got full body CHILLS as well as goosebumps was wild to me.

I can't say enough about how much I loved this story, and how fully immsered I found myself - thinking about it DAYS later, craving the next book (which is rare for me).

6 fucking stars.

This was my first why choose, and it had me hooked from the beginning. I devoured this book in less than 24 hours. The storyline was giving me mafia/dark romance vibes, and I feel like it was confirmed after that cliffhanger at the end, and we'll get more of it in the next book. I am hoping we get a release date for book 2 soon.
There was a plot, and it was a good one, but it was not the main focus. The story focused on Dempsey and her 3 new step brothers (who are not related. 2 are adopted). We find out how accommodating they can be as they welcome Dempsey to her new home. This was a fun and sexy read, and I would recommend to people who love why choose romances as well as people who want to explore the genre.

The brothers had different personality types and covered all bases from grumpy to golden retriever. I don't blame Dempsey for wanting them all. I'm having a hard time choosing myself 🤷‍♀️ The ending to this book has me wondering if we have another contender, meaning Dempsey may end up with 4 people begging for her attention...
This was a nice intro to why choose, and I am so grateful to Love Notes PR and the E. Winn for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

My thoughts: If you love intense why choose dark romance novels - I highly recommend Hearts of Fortune! The spice was off of the metre but it also comes with an incredible storyline of love and protection which coincides with the explicit smutty scenes!

Lets start with Dempsey, she is an absolute legend; she speaks her mind, is tough as nails and gives as good as she gets (if you catch my drift 😜). Dempsey was an incredible FMC and I loved her point of view throughout. Her voice as the narration throughout was an excellent choice - although I wouldn’t have minded hearing the boys internal dialogue!

The Astons! Wowee 😍 Each brother was unique in their approach with Dempsey. Presley is definitely the most forward with his desires and also the most unable to restrain or restrict himself. Dacre was charming and sweet but also an absolute beast (Dacre was my personal favourite!) & then Sinclair the icy one that you can’t wait to see melt 🤤

Amongst all of this Dempsey is hiding a secret, a monstrous father who is trying desperately to have Dempsey back in his grasp with near-deadly consequences!

The cliffhanger!!! I cannot wait for the second installment & I need it now!! 😫😫😫

Definitely add to your TBR immediately 🥰

I saw the tropes for this book and thought it would be a good fit for me but it turned out to be the BEST fit for me. I absolutely LOVED this book and I'm not saying it lightly. The slow burn of the three stepbrother getting together with Dempsey, the FMC, was so great. I love when their is one last hold out and they're like the big angry one but turn out to be the most protective 😫 my favorite! The guys in this book are so different then Dempsey thought and how they were portrayed and it makes them so complex but also so simple. It was so well written and kept me entertained the entire time. The sub plots of the mysterious letters and the anxiety of when the threats will come to all the other things that are probably too specific to talk about without giving something away just worked so well together. I knew from probably 40% in I was giving this no lower than 4 stars and by the end I knew this was going in my top 10 books of 2024. The story alone was like I said, so good, but then you add in the spice? Now I cant talk about it the way I want to om here but lord have mercy, the way they talk, the things they did???? Ma'am I am so lucky I was home when I read this because I would have been uncomfortable had I been in public

I freaking love why choose like this one. Where I love every person in the group and being together just makes total sense. Dempsey, Sin, Presley, and Dacre fit together like a figurative and literal puzzle, and I need book 2 immediately.

Let me back up - Dempsey’s mom marries Sin’s dad in the first chapter. Presley and Dacre are Sin’s adopted brothers. It’s all lifestyles of the rich and famous, elite social circles, stepford wives craziness but, like always, what lies beneath is less than ideal.

Sin runs a billion dollar tech company and appears totally controlled and put together, but underneath he’s tatted and pierced and just trying to take care of his family.

Pres is the charismatic life of the party with an exhibition kink, but he’s really a broken boy and a golden retriever at heart.

Dacre looks tough and is total touch her and 🪦 for real, but he’s also an artist who will do anything for his family.

And Dempsey? Well she’s the girl who gets to rail them all. And be loved by them all. And she has someone out to get her 👀

Book 1 does end on a cliffhanger, but if you are a why choose/forbidden romance fan, this one needs to go on your TBR immediately.
