Frosty Harbor #1

One Frosty Pucking Meet Cute

Rate this book
A runaway bride crashing in my guesthouse is the last thing I need.

I already had perfectly good holiday plans, like glaring at walls and staring moodily into distant horizons because my hockey season is officially down the drain.

She's as off-limits as it gets, but she has no car, no money, no job, and no place to stay. So I'll let her crash with me for the holidays. With my teammates and her brother already over for the holidays, I'm sure we'll barely notice her.

After all, how much trouble can one relentlessly cheerful little woman cause?

Plenty.

Usually, I'm the last guy on the team women try to warm up to, but she's not put off by my icy moods.

I'll wind up bending one rule after another because I can't seem to say "no" to her. Taking her shopping for new underwear (don't ask). Doting on her like a lovesick puppy when she twists her ankle. Sharing steamy glances when my teammates and her brother aren't looking…

My teammates can't know how much she tempts me. Her brother certainly can't know the things I'm imagining doing to her.

We'll both keep pretending we're just having fun, even when she winds up sharing my bed in secret. We both agree it's harmless. Just casual.

But when her old life comes calling, will I keep pretending, or will I put it all on the line?

USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Amazon Charts Bestselling author Penelope Bloom is taking her first flight into romantasy—and yes, there are dragons. After years of contemporary romance, she's temporarily trading meet-cutes for magical academies and coffee shops for castles that reek of blood. She promises the banter is just as sharp, but now it comes with deadly consequences.

Fun fact: “Penelope Bloom” started as a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the family dog, Penelope—never meant to be anything serious. But then the books took off, and the name stuck. Behind the scenes, Penelope Bloom is actually a husband-and-wife team. He handles the writing; she edits, helps with brainstorming, and runs the reader-facing side of things (like social media and messages). So if you’ve chatted with “Penelope” online, you’ve likely been talking to her—with the author chiming in whenever needed. Together, they’ve built the voice readers know and love.

Had a strong start but just started to get boring. Even though I was bored I did still like the FMC. The storyline just didn’t keep up to its strong beginning.

Had a strong beginning, but felt really dragged out and repetitive. Could have been a 50 page read imo.

It so fun to read a book that the characters make you laugh, scratch your head, and almost cry. A runaway Bride, in only a wedding dress, who would think that a bride would go commando especially when she isn't sure she wants to marry the man. I adore Andi and the sneak peek of Caroline I do hope she is next. So very fun.

This was a cute & fun read. I wasn’t if I’d like it going in because I’m not a big fan rom-com’s, but I love the brothers best friend trope so I figured I’d try it.
I loved Andi’s carefree sense of humor & her free spirit, but there were times I wished she was a little more serious about how Jesse kept her at arms length & kept insisting on friends w/benefits & no feelings involved or strings attached sex. I actually felt bad for her.
She really liked him & how he was always so quick to shut down speculation about them being a couple had me feeling for her. I think a lot of their problems towards the end could’ve easily been avoided had they communicated, there was so many unspoken words between them & both were afraid to say what they wanted.
This was a good read w/A LOT of lol moments- one of my favorite was right in the beginning when Andi fell into Jesse & her face was in his crotch! I loved the sense of humor & laughter both Carter & Liam brought to the book!

I've found a sparkly jewel of a new-to-me author! Yep, you got that right, folks. I have finally tried a book by Penelope Bloom after having her books on my TBR for legit ages. I was absolutely blown away by this story. I feel like Goldilocks because this book was just right for me. I feel like it was basically written just for me.

Bloom's writing style has much to do with the camaraderie I felt while reading this. I felt so relaxed and at home in the pages of this story. The dialogue and prose were on point, the flow of the story was perfect, and the quality of the writing was top-tier. I loved the premise of the story and the execution of the tropes. The world-building was sensational. I felt so absorbed into this small town of Frosty Harbor. I could feel the cold, see the idyllic little town, and envision the places in the scenes effortlessly.

The characters grabbed my attention straight away. I immediately loved them and felt a kinship with them. They were so relatable and it was easy to form a connection with them. The main characters had detailed backgrounds and personalities that jumped right off the page and made you take notice. Andi was a favorite for sure. I love quirky female leads. This book has a large cast of secondary characters and I fell in love with each and every one of them. They had distinct personalities and each of them left their mark on the story in different ways. I loved all the hockey boys and all the hints that were dropped about future books in the series.

One of my favorite things in books is found family and this book had it for days. All of the themes of found family and friendship warmed my heart. You could really feel the tangibility of these and it made for great reading. I love getting attached to a friend group in a book series. It's the best feeling.

Andi and Jesse were the cutest opposites-attract couple around. Andi had a carefree way about her and had a positive attitude about things. Jesse was kind of a grump but he was also honorable and a protector. Their meet-cute was hilarious and it fit them so well. You could feel the attraction simmering in the air when these two were together. This story sort of had an instalove vibe going on but it was written in a way that made the romance believable. Sure, they pretty much had goo goo eyes for each other from their first meeting but they also spent a lot of time together and got to know one another. So yeah, there is a ton of physical attraction right from their first meeting but you can also feel the feels between them. The emotions are strong and convincing. I loved their banter and their chemistry was so intense.

Overall, this story stormed the castle of my heart and broke the door right down. If you love memorable characters, an engaging and unpredictable plot, and god-tier storytelling then this book should be the next to grace your TBR. Hats off to Penelope Bloom because I have a new hardcore favorite author. Going through her backlist is going to be divine.

- Grumpy/sunshine
- Brother's best friend
- Hockey romance
- Runaway bride

This book is so witty and wonderful. I giggled all the way through it at Andi's antics.

On the day of her wedding, Andi realizes she is just settling and not in love with her fiance. So she does what any responsible adult would do...jump out the window and run through the woods barefoot. She continues on this theme by crashing her car on a mountain while traveling to Frosty Harbor where he brother Jake is spending the holidays with some of his hockey teammates.

Jesse, who owns the cabin where they are staying, is out for the seson due to an injury. He is having a hard time coping with being sidelined and getting over his former girlfriend. he is part of the crew that gets Andi off the mountain and she begins causing chaos immediately.

Jesse is drawn to Andi, but Jake makes it clear no one is to make moves on her. Andi, however, is a force of nature and sets her sights on Jesse. How can he get through Tsunami Andi with his heart intact?

This is the most delightful and hilarious book I've read for a while. I absolutely love this author's work!.

Yeahhh no. N. O. NO.
I admit I didn’t get far, but far enough to know I don’t like Andi and don’t want to read about her.
Andi is a runaway bride who is a mess at 32. She is supposedly bawling her eyes out due to the wedding mess she’s caused but ran away and did NOT tell a single soul. So she basically caused her family, her groom, friends, so many people a heck ton of worry on top of the embarrassment and cost. Ok I can deal.
Andi also really likes word play and alliteration coming up with a bunch of nicknames to refer to her runaway bride status, they’re pretty awful…bridal bailout…ok…veil vanisher…not so much. But I can understand why she wants to make light of it, I guess.

But I don’t get why her fiance was with her in the first place. We find out that 32 yo Andi is broke poor, has no real job prospect or anything, and acts like a flighty teenager. (Sorry to all the mature teens who may be offended). Her fiance is supposedly the son of a pharmaceutical company tycoon, thus filthy rich. But their relationship sounds boring too, scheduling sex. So if he wasn’t with her for love, status, or sex, or even a trophy wife, then why exactly was he with her??? Makes no sense.

Then there’s the fact that Andi needs to be rescued when her car breaks down and crashes on her way to a small town in winter. She finally calls her brother who for some dumb reason promises not to tell anyone else she called. And he has his hockey teammates pick her up.
Now Jesse, is going to be the MC she falls for and vice versa we can all assume. And he seems likeable enough so far. But what I don’t get is how she has never met any of the team or seen any of them because she’s never been to a single one of her older brother’s games. What the!?! And they’re supposed to be close? How did she not go and support him, ever?
Then when given the option of going to bed (which after her disastrous day [I can alliterate too] you’d think she’d want to get a shower and some normal clothes on [considering she’s still in her poufy wedding dress], but no she chooses to meet the rest of the team right then. You’re supposedly embarrassed, no, mortified for jilting the groom, crashing a car, and running to this place, you’ve been supposedly crying for awhile and probably look a mess, but this is a great time to meet all the guys. Mmmhmmm, yah makes sense…NOT!!!!!
Andi is an idiot and immature and I cannot waste time on a book that may turn out ok but is probably mediocre at best. There are so many other books to read and I just want to stop now instead of forcing myself through the pain. I don’t like not finishing books, even when I’m not enjoying, but I don’t think I’ll regret doing so in this case.

Andi is a runaway bride. She knows she made the right decision but she's not sure she handled it the right way. So she decides to hide away with her brother and his friends. Jesse is on a break from his hockey career due to an injury, so he decides to feel sorry for himself during the holidays and his friends all decide to come along. They all end up in Frosty Harbor sharing a house. Andi and Jesse are immediately attracted to one another, but they know they shouldn't act on it. She just ran away from her wedding and he's heartbroken following an ugly breakup! Is it possible that they will find love in a sleepy small town at Christmas?

The author did a good job creating Andi as both kind of flighty but also super sweet and caring. One could argue that her brother enables her by giving her money, so she doesn't have to work but that's also a part of Jake's (her brother) story. Andi didn't really grow or develop during this story but found a place that fits her. She learned about her brother's hockey friends and discovered that sometimes it's the family you make that fulfills you. Jesse started the story very closed off and kind of sad. Due to the fact that the love story takes a couple of weeks from start to finish, I won't say that the changes in Jesse were growth, but it was him opening himself back up to the world. It was super cute that Andi picked away at Jesse until he let her into his heart. The relationship of the guys from the team and Jesse's sister was fun. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I had an issue with this story that I have with a lot of first in a series books. There were times that I felt like the main characters weren't the focus because there was so much information about the side characters. I know that the author is setting up future books and I didn't hate it but it was a lot. Another issue is that due to the very short time frame of the story there are some references that don't make sense. For example, Jesse loves the smell of Andi's strawberry shampoo. Where did she get strawberry shampoo when she ran away from her wedding without even having a pair of shoes? That probably seems silly but moments like that pull me out of the flow of the story.

This is a contemporary, small town, hockey, instant love, runaway bride romance. If you are looking for a fun, lightweight book that is a quick read, give this a try. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.

This sweet town of Frosty Harbor, mixed in with a group of pro hockey players in a cabin, and a runaway bride?? Perfection. Not only does it take place around the holidays and totally hypes my Christmas vibe, but we meet sweet adorable Andi, who realized she was about to make a huge mistake by walking down the aisle.

She flees to the town of Frosty Harbor, which seems straight out of a hallmark movie! Her brother is staying there with his teammates, as their NHL team captain is recovering from a recent injury—this is where we meet Jesse. Jesse is down on his luck after his season ending injury and a recent breakup, and Andi barrels into his life like an infectious ball of sunshine. He’s so loyal and kind, but his confidence has taken a beating. He’s drawn to her, but still feels he wouldn’t be good enough for her—so as he spends more time with her, and the attraction grows, they decide to enter into a “casual” relationship….but from the start, Jesse knows this girl isn’t someone he’ll be able to walk away from, no matter how much he tries to convince himself otherwise.

I loved this newest book by Penelope Bloom and can’t wait for the next 2 in the series. We are introduced to some really great new side characters, and I hope each hockey fella gets a book!

My introduction into the world of hockey romance. Jesse is tasked with finding a teammates runaway sister. In a badly torn wedding dress armored with a a tube of chapstick, one slightly used floss pick, two quarters and a dime, and a hairpin. She waits in her smoking heap; a visual representation of her life at the moment. Andi knew two things for certain one- she wasn’t going to get married today and two - frosty harbor was speaking to future Andi and they both were liking the feels the town gave her. Realistically I don’t like Andi she doesn’t give her life much thought beyond the first 15 mins and while her brother is willing to chalk it up to her being a free spirit I just find that unattractive. If I was Jesse I don’t think I was be so keyed up for a relationship with someone who is flighty and unemployed it’s but so much love can excuse. Jesse has every right to be as cautious as he was and the people in his life were wrong for pressuring him to act before he was ready. It wasn’t as spicy as Booktok gave the impression it would be.

First, I absolutely loved this romantic comedy read! Bloom delivers a well written romance with the perfect balance of sweet and steam as well as awkward moments and banter that will have you laughing out loud! Beautifully told in dual point of view. Secondly, I'm super excited that more is to come since this the just the first in a series set in this charming small town of Frosty Harbor following these hottie hockey players! In this book we have our main characters injured captain Jesse and his teammates lil sister Andi. I love Andi's carefree attitude and completely understand why her brother Jake is protective of her - but Jesse is so wonderful and while the chemistry is there between these two from the very beginning there are some obstacles...of course there is her brother Jake but then there is also the fact that she just ran away from her own wedding?!? Jesse has his own emotional baggage to unpack but in true Bloom fashion we somehow find our way to a perfect HEA - all with some secondary characters that just add so much more to this small town and make me all the more excited for what's to come next in this series!

Jesse and Andi’s story is unforgettable!

This book has a lot of special moments, good and bad and funny and steamy. Jesse is a hockey player. He’s been injured in the first game of the season. Some of his teammates are spending the holidays in Frosty Harbor, VT with him, including Andi’s brother Jake. Andi is a runaway bride and is almost to Frosty Harbor to be with her brother while she figures out what to do with her life when she gets in an accident. Her brother is still at her non-wedding looking for her, though. She calls him and he has his friends go get her, including Jesse. They take her to get checked out by a doctor and then to Jesse’s cabin. There are five hockey players all together. Her brother Jake has always told the guys hands off of his baby sister, and he’s told her hands off the guys. This is the first time she’s meeting any of them in this little snowy mountain town. Jesse is the one who rescues her out of her car, and from then on it’s the slow burn of slow burns, but it’s so worth it in the end.

This has tons of things I love in a read:

A smokin' hot, grumpy Hockey guy, and his teammates? Yes!
A dreamy, adorable small town? Of course.
A sweet, sunshiny, mess of a woman who needs a place to land? You bet.
A couple with sizzling attraction and steamy scenes? Ooh, so good!
And so much more!

As I am already a fan of this author's originality and creativity, I was thrilled to receive a free ARC of this one. Jesse had an injury that has prevents him from playing with his team, and a relationship breakup to boot, so retreating to his home town to recuperate makes sense. Being grumpy is working for him, until Andi quite literally falls into his lap.

Andi is quite a mess, sitting alone, on the side of a mountain in her crashed car. The last thing she needs right now is to be rescued by a bunch of her brother's teammates, but that is exactly what happens. But with a true sunshine spirit, she rolls with the situation, and ingratiates herself into the group of guys, much to the discomfort of her brother. Jesse does everything he can to fight the chemistry and attraction to Andi, and their push and pull energy is addictive. The pages turned themselves as these two journeyed to their forever.

I was a bit frustrated with Andi's flighty, "it'll all work out eventually" attitude, [because I'm a planner] but this is exactly what this grump needs, and I was thrilled with the resolution to this story, and how their HEA worked out.

I look forward to seeing the next teammate fall... I sure hope it's Nolan! I recommend this author, this book, and her numerous other entertaining and enjoyable titles in her catalog of works. I am happy to leave this review.

This was such a great book and I love the storyline and the different POV’s but overall I'm a sucker for a lol romance. Jesse is a Pro Hockey player and after he was injured he returns home to his cabin in Frosty Harbar to recover and his teammates join him for the Christmas Holidays. Andi was about to be married and new within her heart this wasn’t the right thing to do so she runs and ends up crashing her car and is saved by Jesse and his teammates and straight off the bat there attraction to each other is off the charts but because of her brother Jake nothing can happen without huge issues. Jesse is attracted to Andi but he’s not ready to after is his injury and his recent breakup but she temps him like no other and her bubbly attitude is infectious and makes him wonder if they could have something truly amazing together but he needs to talk to her brother first because they where all told hands off. How does it all turn out get this book to find out.

Immature and flighty

There wasn't any grammatical or editing issues, but I just really didn't connect with these characters. The female lead character starts of the story running away from her wedding (in full bridal glory). She just generally seemed immature, lacking any ambition, and just too flip-flopping all over the place with her emotions. The male character wasn't much better. He was a professional hockey player out for the season with an injury and hosting his teammates in his small hometown around the holidays. One of his teammates is the older brother of the runaway bride. He also had some poorly defined emotional scarring from a relationship gone south. There was a lot of "will they, won't they", but in an annoyingly emotional jerking around rather than fun sexual tension. They did have a few hot interludes between the emotional whiplash. But even the emotions felt pretty shallow, so I found my selfish skimming to try to get through it. I've enjoyed other books by this author, but this one I just found frustrating and unsatisfying.

I really wanted to like this book. I enjoyed Jessie's teammates and his sister and Mia. But I could not get past Andi's characterization. She was flighty in the worst possible way, came off as super immature, and just flat out immature. I felt like I was reading about a 20 year old caricature of a character. Jesse was a better character (for me) and I was curious to find out about what exactly happened with his ex but just couldn't power through to find out.

Also the hockey portions were a huge miss for me as well considering what playing like is during that point in the season. I know it was supposed to be a Big Thing that her brother never let his team near her (or her near the team) but... the fact that her brother (who she cares about and is close to) made it to the NHL where he's really tight with his teammates and yet she's never been to a game of his or watched a game of his or been interested at all at knowing even the basics of the team he's so involved in just added to the no for me.

Fun & Fast Read - Small Mountain Town Grumpy/Sunshine Hockey Romance

Plot: 4📍
Spice: 3🌶️
Overall: 4⭐

This was such a fun, read! A really cute, grumpy/sunshine trope. But adorable as FMC digs into MMC and opens up his heart. Wonderful introduction to a new cast of characters, sweet small mountain town. Can't wait to see the rest of the characters get their HEAs and fall in love with a new author's verse!

Our FMC Andi finds herself running from her wedding (and responsibilities) and accidently straight into the arms of our MMC, Jesse. Sass and grunts ensue, with our FMC both trying to reconcile her (now lack thereof &) un-impending nuptials, our MMC doing his best to be the appropriate friend to his teammate’s little sister.

Both are delightful, endearing MCs and even through the forced proximity, resulting “frustrations” caused when the rest of the teammates descend upon the mountain home, you’ll be laughing, rooting for our Andi & Jesse … and there’s a hint of a future romance!

Definitely would recommend this for a simply enjoyable read!

Several things

The trope of little sister is off limits because of big brother is cute if they are in their early twenties but early thirties and it's just weird. The story is based on two thirty somethings who are absolutely ignorant to their own emotions. The whole book is about two people who don't understand their own minds and just feel sorry for their stupidity. It of course takes till the end for them to pull the heads out and admit they like each other. Also, there seems to be an epidemic amongst authors right now. They collectively seem to assume us readers like minor characters to be over the top and aggressive with the main characters. I'm really tired of "the best friend" or "the sister" to be pushy and ridiculous in everything they say and do. It's annoying and just makes the book that much harder to enjoy. Please make a normal minor character who I don't want to throat punch. It's an easy read and there were a few funny parts so that's why I gave it four stars.

Dual POV

This is my favourite “runaway bride” style romance. It also encapsulates my other favourite tropes - small town, hockey and brother’s best friend.

On the day of her wedding, Andi realizes she can’t get married to her fiance, so she gets in her car (still in the dress) and drives to the small town where her pro-hockey player brother and his hockey player friends are staying. There, she meets Jesse, her brother’s friend and team mate, who is recovering from an injury.

Thoughts:

- There is definitely some insta-love between Andi and Jesse.
- I liked that Andi’s brother was protective without the inherent misogyny.
- Very satisfying grand gesture at the end.
- Set around the holidays but not very Christmasy.
- Undefined situationship angst!

Definitely recommend for romcom/contemporary fans!.

We start off meeting Andi who is a runaway bride. She didn't stop for a change of clothes, shoes, money, or underwear. Thank goodness she has her phone though.
After an accident, Andi calls her brother Jake, who calls his hockey teammates to include Jesse. Jesse is injured and out for the season. His long term relationship had ended and no one knows why. He's moping around until the sunshine that is Andi comes blowing into town like a blizzard. The only problem - Jake. He's her overprotective brother who doesn't trust anyone, not even his teammates, with Andi.
What happens when the tensions rise and the flames need to be put out? Delays, of course. Babysitting, an injury, and an overprotective brother. But, will all of that stop Andi and Jesse from running away from their past and finding their possible future?
I can't spoil it for you so you have to read to find out!.

Great book ❗

I really love this book. Being a little sister is tough, as I well know. When your brother won't introduce you to all those cool guys and you have to suffer. Andi was such a hoot! First she ran out on her groom, shoeless, and then got in an accident, and she couldn't move because she had no shoes and it was snowy out. But her brother called the Calvary... His hockey buddies... And they rescued her. Jesse... He was something else. He had been in a relationship for a long time but, it was a toxic relation, and he felt that it was all his fault when things didn't go right. His buddies knew better. And especially Andi's brother. He was the one finally gave permission not really, but sort of or Jesse and his sister. The two fell in love and their story is a great one! I loved how everyone just kind of took her over protecting her and keeping her from harm. Loved 😍 😍🤩🤩 this book!

Penelope's BACK!!! I love this book - this is the first book of Frosty Harbor Pucks and it is about Andi and Jessie. Okay, so you start with a runaway bride with no shoes and a wrecked car! How can anyone put down a book that starts like that and let's not forget she is going commando? Throw in some beefy hockey players and one named Carter and that is all it takes to get you hooked. I know the next books may be of Jake and Nolan, but Carter truly deserves one too and I don't know maybe with someone who needs a lot of cheering up because he is too funny! The entire group of guys that are her brother's teammates are funny in their way but this group is too much. Oh, and a little taste of the ending thing of a gold thong! Too funny! Penelope I'm glad you are back - I've missed your books!.

Andi is a run away bride. When she decides to dart out of her wedding she heads to Frosty Harbor where her brother will be staying with some of his NHL teammates. One being Jesse Prince hes out do to shoulder injury so the guys to stay with him to keep him company. When Jake asks Jesse to help his sister who wrecked her car, Jesse and a few of the guys head out to save her. When he spots Andi the chemistry is off the charts but he knows shes off limits due to being Jakes sister but also hes not willing to put his heart on the line again. Can these two melt their hearts and give into their wild chemistry. Amazing, funny, and just all around great holiday story. I look forward to more from the Frosty Harbor Pucks series.

What a cute Holiday Meet Cute read.

Andi as the runaway bride and Jesse as the closed off guy. You seriously will laugh at how this books starts out. OMG it's too funny. Andi's brother Jake is over the top protective and I mean over the top. Jesse has an instant attraction to Andi when he goes to rescue his team mates sister. Let the fun begin. Jesse's team mates are a riot making this read an overall feel good holiday read. One question though. If I'm not mistaken Andi is like maybe 32, how can a 32 year old not have a job and not have money to pay her bills. How does she even have an apartment in New York of all places. I was scratching my head with that one. When Jesse takes her shopping she says she'll pay him back. Same with her brother. LOL Well she is now helping Caroline and getting paid. Regardless really cute read.
