When you first saw this book, you probably assumed it was fiction, right? Wrong! As it turns out, America’s Old West cowboys did encounter UFOs and also creatures that they believed were “aliens." Well that didn't take long. The book arrived this afternoon and I'm finished already. Whether or not you believe in UFOs or aliens, it's still interesting to read about incidents where people believe that they have witnessed aerial phenomena or experienced contact with otherworldly beings. I think that it would be arrogant for us to believe that we are alone in the universe, and I certainly wouldn't dismiss out-of-hand any suggestion that we had been visited.
The book is divided into 14 chapters, each dealing with an alleged sighting of a craft or critter in the western USA. Some of the incidents are admittedly hoaxes, while others are sufficiently far-fetched as to cause considerable skepticism. Is Bigfoot really dropped off by visiting spacecraft? How about the Tombstone pterodactyl...did that really exist? Pterodactyls are known to have existed, and stories exist among indigenous peoples of the Thunderbird....could one have existed long enough to have come in contact with cowhands? The stories I found most credible were those with similar details, crash scenes for instance, where pliable and seemingly indestructible metallic material was found, or there was paper like substance with strange hieroglyphics that seemed to be a form of writing. The trouble with this, of course, being the obvious "where is it now?" If someone had picked up this evidence at a crash site, surely they would have retained it...it would no doubt been good for a couple of beer at happy hour.
The book is an entertaining read, but the material seems merely to have been mined from extant printed accounts. I don't see any effort on the part of the authors to track down physical evidence . We are left to speculate as to what really crashed at Roswell, and to wonder if mountain man James Lumley really saw a spaceship explode in the Rockies in 1864. There are enough incidents that one would think that physical evidence would be commonplace, but seemingly there is none. Maybe some day the owner of the Aurora cemetery in Texas will allow an exhumation of the alien supposedly buried there, but that would remove all doubt....and we can't have that!

Interesante y breve librito sobre encuentros OVNI en el Viejo Oeste.
El fenómeno OVNI da inicio oficialmente en 1947 con el avistamiento de una serie de objetos extraños volando sobre el Monte Rainier en los Estados Unidos, pero eso no significa que en el pasado no hayan ocurrido este tipo de sucesos intrigantes y sorprendentes. Noe Torres y Joe LeMay presentan un librito muy interesante sobre encuentros misteriosos con este tipo de fenómenos en el Viejo Oeste y que fueron registrados por periódicos de la época. Luces en el cielo, extraños aparatos aéreos que flotan sobre los pueblos y las ciudades, choques misteriosos de objetos en los ranchos y los desiertos, misteriosos personajes que se aparecen en los caminos, la sorprendente oleada ovni de 1896-97 y hasta lo que parece ser un antiguo pterodáctilo se dan cita en este recuento de casos que no tienen pierde para los lectores de lo "forteano".
P.D. Por cierto, este dato no viene en el libro, pero la oleada ovni de 1896-97 en los Estados Unidos, inspiró a un famoso escritor para crear la primera novela OVNI. Se trata de DUEÑO DEL MUNDO del francés Julio Verne sobre el sorprendente misterio que se oculta tras unas luces nocturnas que se manifiestan en la cima de una montaña y su relación con los avistamientos de una extraño y fascinante objeto que ha sido visto en el cielo, en la tierra, y hasta en el interior de un lago ¿Qué misterios se esconde detrás de este OVNI?

My copy was not a Kindle book. It is a paperback, but larger than most paperback books, about 6" x 10". It has 105 pages and is a 2nd edition print.
This book is for anyone interested in UFO's before the 1950's and take the subject seriously.
The book has lots of great stories with information you'll love reading about. The book is an easy read and has lots of great pictures/illustrations also.
