Annabella has sought the affection of Lord William Waverly since she was thirteen years old. When she returns home from finishing school years later a grown woman, she finally gets the attention she was seeking. Of course William doesn’t recognize her, at first, but his friend Benedict does. Benedict also knows how William has been gambling and such to avoid grieving his mother’s death. After William tells Benedict that he plans to propose to Annabella right away, Benedict decides he must intervene before his friend makes a horrible mistake. Benedict intercepts William and Annabella being together over and over and finds himself spending more time with Annabella and falling for her himself.
I really enjoyed this sweet story. I loved how Benedict is so caring of his friend and of Annabella. I really loved watching the romance unfold and the grand gesture at the end was amazing! Fans of Sabrina will love this regency romance. Overall a great story and I definitely recommend!

"Every encounter I have, whether it be a struggle or a blessing, is like a star. A single piece of my life. All the things - the things I see, the things I feel, the things I experience - they are my little stars."

This was my first book by this author, and definitely won't be my last!
The story was so captivating and sweet, the setting so beautiful - I wished I could be there too. 🩷
The characters were so real and made me smile and laugh so many times, the author did an amazing job making you truly feel all of their emotions and thoughts and struggles.
I would've given it 5 stars, because of how much I loved the story, but I only wished the characters appreciated each other's qualities and talents a little bit more, I felt like they didn't go past the outward appearances much.
Overall, it was a beautiful story and I can't wait for the next in the series! 🩷

cute fun read with Sabrina vibes

I loved this cute reimagining of Sabrina in a Regency setting. Laura is a new author to me, thanks to the suggestion from Sally Britton’s newsletter, and I look forward to going back and reading the first book and the following books. I definitely recommend it for fans of Sabrina, clean, sweet romance, Regency era stories, and stories with good family relationships.

“Onward, onward, ever toward your destination.
and regard, no matter who they are.”

Dear Miss Annabella Pettiford is brilliant as she is enchanting, and radiates kindness and creativity. She has just returned from finishing school. She is no longer a gangly wallflower, but a poised and confident woman ready to turn heads wherever she goes.

Mr. Benedict Drake is hard-working, intelligent, and loyal-sometimes to a fault. Benedict staunchly opposes his best friend’s pursuit of the once-overlooked Annabella. He is rather convinced that his friend’s self-destructive tendencies spell disaster for any match with Annabella.

So naturally, Benedict hatches a plan. As he works to separate William and Annabella and introduce her to other gentlemen, an alarming realization dawns on him. He finds himself enchanted and drawn by Annabella’s poise, grace, and shared enthusiasm for life, and Benedict finds in her a unique connection.

But time is ticking, and he may be too late. How could she ever care for him once she learns all he has done to keep her from the man she first desired…

“Every encounter I have, whether it be a struggle or a blessing, is like a star. A single piece of my life. All the things - the things I see, the things I feel, the things I experience - they are my little stars.”

@author_laura_rollins this is such a delightful heartwarming story. Filled delightfully with such endearing characters, adventure, witty banter, and a uniquely original grand gesture of an ending to this story completely captured my heart! If you enjoy sweet and swoony clean romance, this Regency Sabrina retelling story is a must read, any time!!

How wonderful! Reading this sweet regency romance was like curling up with your favorite blanket and a hot cup of tea.
Annabella Pettiford has always been the girl next door. Since she was a little girl she has loved spending her time at the neighboring estate of Edengrove. Sneaking treats in the kitchen, learning to dance, the motherly love from Lady Waverly. And of course, young Lord William Waverly. Annabella hopes that one day William will notice her and see how much they understand each other.
When Annabelle returns home after 5 years away at finishing school, she is surprised that she has indeed caught the eye of Lord Waverly.
She is even more surprised however when she feels the connection between her Benedict Drake, best friend of Lord Waverly.
Benedict is a loyal and steadfast friend. When Lord Waverly suffers a tragic loss, he hurries to his friend’s side. When he realizes that his friend is enamored with the beautiful Miss Pettiford, he knows he must step in. But he doesn’t expect to begin to fall for the lady himself.
This was so well done! I loved Annabella and Benedict so much. They are perfect for each other and their connection is so true and original. I also loved the side characters, including cameos from loved characters from the previous book in the series.
And man, that epilogue! I am crazy excited for Thomas Drake’s book now!

Thank you to the author and arc copy. A positive review was not required. All thoughts are my own.

My only real complaint is that things with the captain felt unresolved! Where did he come from? Where did he go? Has he ever heard of a cotton-eye Joe?? These are the questions I need answered.

Other than that minor dissatisfaction, I very much enjoyed this story!! I’ve not quite hit a “slump” but would say books haven’t been holding my attention as they normally would. This book, however, grabbed my attention and held on tight! The romance was sweet and clean, with a mild enemies-to-lovers feel (no matter how much of that trope I consume, it will Never. Be. Enough.). I liked Annabella’s moral compass and was relieved that she wasn’t a gullible adult—no secondhand embarrassment or cringing here, no sir! I’d recommend it; in fact, I probably will recommend it to a sister who periodically asks me for book ideas.

A New Favorite Five Star Read

This story was so wonderful from the very beginning! We get a look back at young Annabella, Benedict, and William, who were neighbors and sometimes playmates. Benedict is already stepping in and doing the right thing. For every person who has licked cookie batter off their mom's beater, you will love the depiction of sweet Annabella.

As adults, when life circumstances bring them back together, Annabella's childhood crush on William is over, isn't it? Benedict, in trying to keep William from himself, works to keep his friends apart all while falling in love with Annabelle himself.

Oh, the emotions run HIGH in this book! From all the little interactions building into a crescendo of a kiss, and then THE misunderstanding (sigh), I couldn't put it down. I had to know what happened! Let's just say if a love interest has to take you to court, it might not be a good thing! 😉

I will say that I wanted to jump through the book and strangle Benedict a few times. His epiphany is worth the wait, but he starts to act a little dishonorably before his brain catches up to his heart (not to mention he struggles in close proximity with Annabella). She wasn't the only one who wanted to deliver a slap to Benedict!

I loved this clean and sweet "frenemies-to-lovers" story!

This is the first book by Laura Rollins I've read, but it won't be the last! With picnics, misunderstandings, and dances, A Pocket of Stars made me feel as if I were watching a Jane Austen movie. However, with her unique voice and a good dose of lighthearted humor, Laura Rollins made this her own.

Just a few things I liked were that the main protagonists were full of good character, the book was clean (aside from light kissing and touching, along with betting and drinking--the latter two being painted as immoral), the main male protagonist starting out as a grumpy sunshine matchmaker, and parts that seemed trivial turning out to be setup. Multiple times, I was thinking about how this inspired me to go pick up my pen (or approach my keyboard) and get to writing, for it was inspirational not only in the story, but the fact it is well-written.

My main objections would be the focus on physical attraction and missed opportunity for subplots. I love a good kiss, but there was more kissing and touching (and thinking about it) than words of encouragement and admiration, even though the main protagonists noticed each others' character. Looking at the missed opportunity for subplots, instead of them having another gathering and talking again, I would have liked a little more conflict between the characters, or even them struggling with the weather or finances.

Overall, A Pocket of Stars was a delightful, easy, and fun read giving me a warm, cozy feel. Ms. Laura Rollins, you have a new reader!

This series is so sweet! I absolutely love these brothers and look forward to more stories to come!

A Pocket of Stars follows Benedict Drake, Barrister and Annabella Pettiford, neighbor to his best friend. Both have known each other for years and when Annabella comes home from finishing school their paths cross again pretty quickly. If you’re familiar with Sabrina, you’ll recognize all the connections in this book! It’s such a great story and I loved this regency version of it.

Benedict and Annabella have almost instant attraction which neither knows what to make of. I loved seeing their friendship progress, each interaction getting better and better. And even though there is a slight misunderstanding towards the end, the way it’s resolved is so fun and so perfect for this couple! I loved it all!

Anything Laura Rollins is a win for me and this book is certainly a WIN.

I revived an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

We’ll just jump right in!

* Already loving how dramatic Annabella is
* Annabella is such a sweetheart and I’m loving all the genuine connections she has with the Edengrove staff
* Poor Benedict, thinking he has to solve all of William’s problems. He’s a good friend
* Definitely could reread that kiss on the balcony again 😍
* Thank goodness for siblings who always come to the rescue

Okay this book was so fun! I really enjoyed it. The characters were interesting and fun and I loved all the different friend and siblings relationships.

Annabella was a sweet girl with a fun personality. I loved how she grew into herself and was confident in who she was and what she wanted. Her relationship with Mrs. Tinsdale was also lovely.

Benedict is such a good man. I loved how he fell in love with Annabella and the way she didn’t overlook him and accepted who he was. So sweet!

Hands down the best part is the court scene at the end. It was *chefs kiss* 🤌 And you’ll have to read it to figure out what the heck I’m talking about ;D

There were a few phrases that didn’t sound very regency and a chapter that ended really abruptly (and seemingly at a weird spot to me), but overall I throughly enjoyed this story!

Thank you so much to the author for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

I know I can count on Laura Rollins to write regency romance I will love. I enjoyed this story and was especially charmed by the unique ending. I couldn’t stop smiling at Benedict’s creativity to win over Annabella.

Annabella grew up as the next door neighbor to William, whose family owned a large estate. Annabella was welcomed by his mother and staff and the estate felt like a second home to her. She longed for Willian to notice her as more than the pesky neighbor girl, and he finally does when she returns from finishing school as a much more mature and beautiful young woman. Annabelle has changed, but is William right for her or just a dream from the past.

Meanwhile Benedict, William’s best friend does all in his power to keep William away from pursuing Annabelle. He does not believe William is ready for a relationship. As he spends time with Annabelle, he notices her goodness and it’s a roller coaster from there trying to find a solution to the situation.

This was a fun regency twist on Sabrina. While I’m a huge Audrey Hepburn movie fan, I think I enjoyed this storyline even more. The ending was so fun and unexpected.

This book is part of a series, but could definitely be read as a stand alone. I’ve loved both books and can’t wait for the next book in this series of brothers!

Also, the cover art is dreamy…

Say what you will about sparks, chemistry, and heat in a book—but the very best authors can make you melt into a puddle with the mere swirl of a finger against another. Bravo Laura I nearly swooned.

Just like Annabelle’s painting, Laura’s words bleed with emotion. You feel each character dropping from the page and into your heart until they are nestled there for good. A permanent fixture for the extent of the story.

I love the way Laura weaves a romance. Her words are beautifully written and leave an impression on your soul.

The third act break up and the subsequent grand gesture worked so well and fit the story perfectly.

This story holds laughter and spark. . .I will read every single thing Laura writes.

Annabella Pettiford is all grown up and home from finishing school. She's had a crush on her neighbor Lord Waverly (William) for years, but when they meet while she's out walking he doesn't recognize her. They meet again that night at a ball, and a tipsy Lord Waverly confides to his friend Benedict that he plans to propose to Annabella during the ball.

Benedict has been watching his childhood friend make one rash decision after another since his mother's death but he can not let William ask Annabella to marry him at the ball, so he decides to introduce Annabella to other men hoping she'll be attracted to one of them. Of course the more time Benedict spends with Annabella, the more he finds himself charmed by her.

This frenemies to love story was simply delightful. Benedict is more suited to Annabella than William ever was and I loved when she realized that William wasn't the man she'd idolized as a young girl. Annabella and William may be opposites in a lot of ways but they're perfect for each other but the course of love doesn't run smoothly and Annabella learns that Benedict kept her and William apart. The courtroom scene that ensues with Benedict and his friends is wonderfully entertaining.

This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone, although I highly recommend reading By the Light of the Setting Sun. I can't wait for another Drake brothers story!

I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

"Every encounter I have, whether it be a struggle or blessing, is like a star. A single piece of my life. All the things-the things I see, the things I feel, the things I experience-they are my little stars. Each a speck of light. And I gather all these stars together, and I keep them forever near me. Close by, so I might feel their warmth, though no one else can. Everywhere I go thereafter, they go with me and light my way, helping me better understand the new things I shall see, feel, and experience. They guide me to new stars, and so, day by day, my little pocket of stars grows."

Read if you like:
* Regency Sabrina Retelling
* Grumpy/Sunshine
* Enemies to Lovers
* Dual POV
* Witty Banter

Annabella is a breath of fresh air. She is kind, compassionate, and beautiful, inside and out. Benedict, under his brooding exterior, has the heart of a true friend and a romantic.
I loved the fun twist on Sabrina (best friends instead of brothers). If you liked the movie, you will enjoy this retelling.
The push and pull between Annabella and Benedict was so good. I loved watching them fight and at times be confused by their growing feelings for each other. I loved watching them truly come to appreciate the person each had become.
Watching the Drake brothers figure out Benedict's feeling before he did and their subsequent matchmaking was my favorite!

Favorites:
* Naming the dog (Vivaldi)
* Bullet pudding
* "You, Miss Pettiford, are most delightful."
* Brushing fingers
* The Drake brothers
* Dance lessons
* The balcony scene
* Lady Waverly and her lasting legacy of kindness
* "Did she seem to like it?"
* "Oh, that's easy. I came into town."
* Mock Court

I'm excited to see which Drake brother gets their story told next!

This book starts off with Annabelle, William, and Benedict being children. Way back then, Annabelle fell in love with William, who was to inherit the title. Well, William's mother paid for Annabelle to go away to a girls finishing school.

When tragedy strikes, and Annabelle comes home, she is immediately reunited with William. Annabelle apparently has grown into the most beautiful woman for miles because everyone who sees her loses their head.

Because of what happened, Benedict doesn't believe that William actually wants to court or marry Annabelle, that he is just using that as an escape. So he gets in the way and tries to put other men in front of Annabelle. And getting back to what I said before, she is beyond lovely, so every man decides he wants her.

As all of this is going on, Benedict is falling completely in love with her. He almost kisses her in their first conversation alone. At every turn, she steals his heart.

And well, he is stealing hers as well, but she doesn't know that his feelings are growing.

Benedict calls for reenforcements from his brothers, and that is when everything starts to go crazy. They see right through him. They know him better than he knows himself.

Of course, the course of true love never did run smoothly, and trouble brewed . Obviously, something or someone had to make trouble.
The way he gets out of that trouble is funny and refreshing.

The side story of Annabelle trying to capture William's home in essence and not truth is a feeling that every artist can relate to.

Annabella has always pictured herself since she was a child being courted by the fun-loving and carefree Lord William Waverly. His very serious friend, Benedict Drake is always by his side and seems to dampen any dreams that Annabella about this. Fast-forward five years and Annabella is home from finishing school. Not much has changed with William and Benedict, but Annabella has grown up and now sees her dream coming true as William begins to show an interest in her. But, what happens when that dream might not be exactly the way she wants it to happen? I loved seeing Annabella realize that her perceptions of these two men may not have been correct.

Benedict was my favorite. His seriousness that is often mistaken as being harsh is not true. He is actually a deeply caring friend and one who is loyal to his friends and family. The courtroom scene is my favorite and perfectly in line with Benedict’s character.

Things to Love:
The Waverly manor
Scowling
Humor
Flowers

Enemies to more
The Drake brothers

Regency romances are my absolute favorite genre to read, so I’m always excited when one of my favorite authors releases a new one. A Pocket of Stars is Laura Rollin’s latest addition to her A Gentleman’s Heart series, and I adore it just as much as the first book in the series.
The story follows Miss Annabella Pettiford as she comes home after spending years away at finishing school. Much to her delight, the very man she loved as a child is now finally paying attention to her. Unfortunately, Lord Waverly’s friend Mr. Benedict Drake does not think now is a good time for Lord Waverly to marry. As Benedict works to keep Lord Waverly from proposing to Annabella, he starts to fall for her instead.
The story is full of humor, banter, chemistry, family and friends, romance, forgiveness, and hope. I loved how Annabella and Benedict’s relationship was so effortless. The tension between them was so swoony. Laura knows how to create so much tension with just a glance or a slight touch; it is so good.
Things to love in this book:
-she falls first, he falls harder
-the Drake brothers
-his brothers know he has fallen before he does
-the balcony kiss
-the grand gesture
-the banter and chemistry
I loved everything about this book. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, and I hope Lord Waverly gets his own story too.

Annabella & Benedict’s story was wonderful! They have known each other for a long time but she leaves whenever she is 13 to go to school. She’s back 5 years later and does not even have her sights set on Benedict but he sees her! He goes through great lengths to make sure she doesn’t end up with someone who would not suit her.
There’s a sweet family dynamic to this book also and I enjoyed it! I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! Laura always writes the sweetest regency romances.

Not interested. I used to love Regency stories but this one did not catch my interest. I quit after 45 pages.

Amazon synopsis:
Miss Annabella Pettiford has long dreamed of capturing the attention of the undeniably handsome Lord Waverly. Now, returned from finishing school, she is no longer a gangly wallflower, but a poised and confident woman ready to turn heads wherever she goes. Dare she hope her newfound allure will be enough to captivate the stylish and gallant Lord Waverly?

Mr. Benedict Drake staunchly opposes his best friend’s pursuit of the once-overlooked Annabella. Convinced that his friend’s self-destructive tendencies spell disaster for any match with Annabella, Benedict hatches a plan.

As he works to separate William and Annabella and introduce her to other gentlemen, an alarming realization dawns—Benedict is falling for Annabella. Entranced by her poise, grace, and shared enthusiasm for life, Benedict finds in her a unique connection. However, it may be too late. How could she ever care for him once she learns all he has done to keep her from the man she first desired?

"The stars were beautiful, of that there was no doubt, but at the moment, he found gazing at them a waste, for there was something far more lovely to look at."

"He wasn't at all confident himself. He might land on this side of rational, or he just might lean a little too far forward and fall.
Into what, he wasn't sure.
But he was convinced it would be glorious."

This book was so delightful! A Pocket of Stars is a regency retelling of Sabrina, but in all the best ways. I adored the characters, their growth, their dynamic and the way they fell for each other! I really appreciated that Annabella was not naive but took time to examine her feelings and remained mature and self aware. And while Benedict was constantly trying to keep her away from his friend, he didn't try to manipulate her feelings. If anything HE was naive, falling head-over-heals without realizing it.

Their dynamic and banter were perfection, and I loved how that while they were very different people, they complimented each other and understood and drew out each other's strengths. And while their was a brief misunderstanding, the resolution was absolutely delightful. Now I need to read the rest of the series, especially having met the other brothers!

This is easily on my favorites list!!! It was delightful from start to end. I loved the Sabrina plot, but I felt like this was done in a very natural way without being cruel like the movie does. I love that her infatuation with William is not unhealthy and that she comes to make up her mind after being gone for so long.

I love Benedict and Annabella, especially together. I love the natural progression from acquaintance to friend to being in love. I love that she realizes she misjudged him in the past. I love that he's a dunderhead and is the last to realize he's in love.

I love how the brothers interact and the friendship between them. I love that William doesn't hold ill will toward Benedict.

The ONLY thing I would have altered in any way: I wanted another page or two at the end after the trial with just the 2 main characters. But, I still loved it as is. I honestly couldn't believe this was a self published book. It is so polished and has great pacing!

This is a nice standalone romance that I found enjoyable to read. Although it has an expected outcome, the journey from the beginning of the book to that outcome is what we - who enjoy romance novels - are most interested in. This one has some unique spots to perk up the story of Miss Annabella Pettiford's "adventure" with her neighbors in the countryside of England in the 1800s. I felt no need to read either book 1 or book 3 to be completely satisfied with the story in book 2. I liked the character of Annabella - she is kind and caring, and strong enough to stand up for herself with kindness and humor when needed. While there is conflict in the novel (there always had to be some conflict), it is quite mild and the book is very clean. It's an easy, very enjoyable read!

Beautiful!

Laura Rollins wrote a wonderful second novel for this series. I absolutely loved Annabella and Benedict, how they grew up knowing each other but not truly knowing and understanding each other. Benedict is so serious, but still so caring and full of depth and even humor. Annabella is very loving and she grows up to be so sensible, but still a dreamer. Their story definitely has some quirky obstacles, but they finally start to see things clearly and work out many misunderstandings. It was awesome how all of Benedict's brothers participated... 😁
This is a great book and on my re-read list.

Although as a young girl, she always thought she would marry her neighbor, Lord Waverly. Now as a mature young lady, she doesn't know how she feels toward him. Her unexpected affections for a very different and very familiar young man she completely overlooked in her childhood is now the only person she can think about.
