Old grudges are the hardest to overcome, and the heaviest burden on new love.
Ellis Patterson can’t lie, the unexpected visit of her best friend’s auntie could be the most exciting thing that’s happened since Ellis drifted to this small town several months ago. She pictures Bex Naylor as a typical favourite eccentric, childless, probably flitting about in flowered dresses, burning sage.
But Bex defies every stereotype. Black leather on her long, slim body, motorcycle to match, Bex has been following the wind for a year. And when those bright green eyes lock with Ellis’, she feels like she’s died and gone to heaven.
Bex’s attraction to Ellis is instant and electrifying. Despite the younger woman’s butch appearance, there is a softness to her that Bex finds appealing. When she discovers how easy it is to make Ellis blush, Bex suspects making those dimpled cheeks bloom pink could become her favourite hobby while she’s back in town. But being home again is…complicated. The last thing she wants is to let old grudges and tangled family emotions touch Ellis’ sweetness.
Though Bex can forgive, certain people will never forget. And one of them would like to see her gone—permanently.

Bex is Carli's aunt. Carli is Elllis's best friend. When Ellis meets Bex, they both start flirting. Because of Bex having dated another of Carli's friends a year ago, then breaking up with her and leaving for a year, Bex is warned off of Ellis. But Ellis doesn't like anyone telling her what she can and cannot do. Things get out of control outside the relationship of Bex and Ellis. Such a great story of family believing outside forces and the fierceness of Ellis's love! Worth more than 5 stars! A favorite!
Ellis stood on business when it came to Bex! Nothing could come between them. I loved the relationship between Ellis and Bex and how they balanced each other. Shelley and Carli can kick rocks 😤 I said what I said
It's All About Bex by Melissa Tereze is another fantastic sapphic romance that delivers all the heat, drama, and emotional depth you could want. Masterfully narrated by KA Walsh, this audiobook is a captivating listen that kept me hooked from start to finish.
The story centers on Ellis Patterson, a sweet, small-town butch, and Bex Naylor, her best friend’s stylish, leather-clad aunt who’s been drifting with the wind for the past year. The attraction between them is instant and sizzling, and their chemistry is off the charts. Tereze’s talent for writing steamy, magnetic romance shines here, and Walsh’s narration only heightens the electricity between the characters.
Ellis is an absolute delight. I fell completely in love with her soft, blush-worthy charm and her tender heart. She’s the kind of character who instantly wins you over, and I couldn’t get enough of her. Bex, on the other hand, is all swagger and edge, but her struggles with her complicated family history add layers to her character. Watching her navigate boundaries, forgiveness, and healing made her journey as compelling as her romance with Ellis.
The family drama surrounding Bex is intense, and I’ll admit I got so frustrated with the way her relatives rained down chaos on her. But it also made the story richer, showing how much work Bex has done to heal and stand strong against their negativity. The themes of forgiveness and boundaries are beautifully woven into the story, giving it emotional weight beyond the romance.
Have I mentioned how much I love books without a third-act breakup?! It’s so refreshing to read a romance where the drama doesn’t hinge on tearing the main couple apart. Instead, the focus remains on their growing connection and how they support each other through the external challenges they face.
KA Walsh’s narration is flawless, capturing the passion, humor, and tenderness of the story with perfection. She brings the characters to life in a way that feels immersive and authentic, enhancing every moment of the book.
If you love steamy sapphic age-gap romances filled with drama, healing, and unforgettable characters, It's All About Bex is a must-listen. Melissa Tereze and KA Walsh make an unbeatable team, and I can’t wait to see what they bring us next!
Ellis Patterson is happy with her life and friends and family. When Bex Naylor comes back to her home town, Ellis is startled to find that Bex, her best friend’s aunt is a hot motorcycle riding lesbian. As their relationship grows their lives become increasingly complicated and there is someone who doesn’t want Bex around. A wonderful author and great story.
Families create the biggest and worst dramas! I always start with reviews while I'm still reading so that I can capture feelings and thoughts straight away. I'm currently having thoughts of murder for certain people in this book. It definitely brings up a lot of emotions very quickly and i could not put it down. Very unexpected and dramatic turns happen. Well, of course i wouldn’t have expected anything else from the Author. For quite a long time i thoughr, that the idiots in this book will really get away with their lies and intrigues...but lets start with the actual story.
Ellis is a super sweet soft-butch. That's how I would describe her. She is loyal and honest and a very good friend of Carly, with whom she has been working in Carly’s family company for almost a year. Above all, she is amused by how excited her friend is, because her Aunt Bex is coming home after a long time. She was expecting a fun and active aunt, but the woman who walks through the door at Carly's house that day stops her world from spinning! Bex is a free spirit and extremely self-confident. That is at least the first impression you get. She does what she wants and doesn't care about anyone else but herself. Her family has strong opinions about „Aunt Bex“, but Ellis seems to be meeting someone else. Bex is back after a year of traveling the world. She just wants her peace and quiet and maybe she also wants the very attractive and sweet Ellis. But she is the best friend of her niece Carly and history has proven, that she'd better keep her hands off of her nice's friends! Things actually turn out differently than you think and many really difficult topics are addressed and discussed. I don't want to give anything away, that would just spoil everything. I can only say that it gripped me right from the start and Melissa Tereze has once again created wonderful and exciting characters, who go through an incredibly difficult time and still don't lose their faith in love. The book is extremely hot of course! I mean really hot!
Melissa Tereze has authored an engaging, sensual romance featuring two English women: Bex, who’s been traveling through Europe for the past year, and Ellis, the best friend of Bex’s niece, Carli.
At 46, Bex has already made her fortune. When she sells the skincare company she started, Bex takes early retirement. But rather than settle into her luxury home to enjoy a relaxed, upscale lifestyle, Bex surprises her niece, sister Shelley, and brother-in-law Paul by suddenly leaving their small hometown to tour the Continent.
Ellis, who’s at the outset of her life as a young, independent woman, lives simply, working with Carli as a parts driver at Paul’s auto shop. She has a warm relationship with her affluent parents, especially with her mom, and an easy-going attitude.
The two women are attracted to each other immediately upon Bex’s arrival but face challenges from Carli, resentment from Shelley, and a cold shoulder around town.
Tereze compellingly plots a tumultuous path for Bex as she copes with the pain and confusion caused by the frosty reception, and Ellis, who experiences the fallout and angst as she helps her potential partner navigate the situation.
Ok, first things first...Ellis may just be the perfect gf. She is my current literary crush, I mean wow. Emotionally mature, supportive, loving, helpful, goes out of her way to be fair and nice. Whew! I liked Bex, but some of her decisions upset me. The rest of the family, sans Paul, are not the kind of family or friends you'd want in your corner in a crisis.
I enjoyed the romance with Ellis and Bex. They fit well together, and the age gap between them was never a thing. It was nice to get to spend a fair bit of time with them as a couple. So many romances end as soon as they say "I love you." I fully expected going into this for there to be family drama because of everyone's relationship to each other, but nothing like what actually goes on.
No third act breakup, though there were a few snags they all happened before a relationship could begin and were resolved quickly. Most of the drama and driving plot occurred outside the contexts of the relationship. What Bex had to put up with...she's a better woman than I am, that's for sure.
I’m pretty sure there will never be a Melissa Tereze book that I do not love!! This had some of the hottest sex scenes. I’ve read in a while minus Vanessa. Those are equally as hot. But this was something that was just absolutely gut, wrenching and horrifying. Poor Bex to find out the way she did about her past was absolutely devastating. I do understand this is very much an instant love or lust maybe would be more accurate word type trope or situation but that’s OK because inevitably is able to make this work 100%.
I found myself in tears on many different occasions throughout this book when these two women were developing their relationship and finding out about their past and just the way this book ended and family dynamics changed, and you know past hurts were put behind them, and things were forgiven and it was just beautiful all the way around and I am excited to see what is next for these two women.
Melissa Terese does it again. I am always so excited when she has a new book coming out. “It’s All About Bex” has everything you expect from a successful author and master storyteller. Bex is coming home after a year away. Her sister Shelley is not happy with nothing but unkind words, her niece Carli talks with her but they are not as close and Ellis, Carli’s best friend is there as they are awaiting her arrival. But when Ellis gets a look at Bex, it blows her mind. The helmet, the leather pants and the alluring eyes. Bex appreciated the women in front of her. Scene is set. Ellis doesn’t listen to rumors even though there have been many from Carli, her mother, the neighbors. But Bex has a different story and Ellis is getting in way too deep. I loved this book. It reminds us that not everything is as it seems. Melissa just writes good books!
Another complex story with a beautiful romance at the heart of it. Now I like Melissa's books as they are predictable - in that no matter what the story it will have different twist to it. And she writes some excellent sex scenes. So predictable in excellence rather than boring. Because this story was not boring. Complex family relationships, mental health, fear, love, lust, all come together in this interesting story. It just never stops. Views were different 47 years ago regarding child blaming and rape but it has to be said that Shelley said some terrible things to Bex. And the name Jocelyn Claire Bonnie Tyler Winters - What an name!! I liked the fact the epilogue was the trial and them moving in together. Much better than heading off into the sunset with their wedding and children after a very short relationship. It is a good job she writes so fast - there's always another one to look forward to.
The queen of age-gap romance, Melissa Tereze, has another phenomenal book to sink your teeth into. I love this new cast of characters she created. The MCs are well thought out, genuine, artfully created, and perfect for each other. I admire how seamlessly Tereze is able to render an age-gap relationship where it is never the focal point during the relationship. The secondary characters are well developed and cause the majority of the angst. I appreciate that the angst comes from other than the MCs themselves, It allows us to see more facets of the MCs relationship. I also respected how the situations were dealt with. Each new book I read of Tereze makes me fall in love with every new release and patiently waiting for what comes next.
4.5 stars. This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I greatly enjoyed said rollercoaster this book is probably one of the best books (I’ve read) at evoking both complex and linear emotions from the reader. Although Shelley and Carli had some character development I can’t forgive not forget what transpired to ever forgive them entirely, especially Shelley. Carli I could mostly forgive Shelley, absolutely not, she’s one of the most emotionally abusive/damaging sibling I’ve ever read. The townspeople disgusted me while at the same showing awareness that in small towns rumors run wild, the vast majority are just your Karen with a grudge or a vindictive and sociopathic ex. Anyway, this is one of the best books read in 2024, highly recommend reading! Fantastic book!
Wow, one thing you can always expect from MT is an amazing story with brilliant characters. This has followed that trend. Ellis and Bex are such great characters. I couldn’t fault them if I tried. I thoroughly enjoyed reading every single chapter. The care and respect each had for the other was heartwarming. I wasn’t keen on 2 of the side characters from the start, and that opinion hasn’t changed after reading it. I’m not going to explain why as it will spoil things but needless to say I would have walked away. As with all Tereze’s books I’ve been left wanting more! Hopefully this gets a second instalment as I’d love to see what the future brings.
Bex Naylor has returned home after a year away, and is instantly charmed by her niece's friend, Ellis Patterson. But her niece Carli warns her off from Ellis, not wanting to see a friendship be disrupted by her aunt. And a past relationship of Bex' comes back to haunt her.
Pros: I liked Bex and Ellis, and their relationship works. The plot is interesting, and while the villain isn't a surprise it kept me reading.
Cons: HOLY SHIT is Carli a assh*le. Like, WOW. Along with Bex' sister. There's no reason Ellis should be this woman's friend, she's THAT awful. Their apology at the end helped, but...
BASICALLY a good read, but the family drags it down a bit.
Tereze is definitely growing as an author and it shows here in ‘It’s All About Bex’.
My normal issues with Tereze are much less apparent. The whiplash conversations where the character vacillates between opposing dramatic statements, literally in mid paragraph, almost nonexistent.
The big dramas play out in a more realistic timeline, and are realistic for the most part.
The side characters are interesting for the most part, and the overall plot flows out somewhat naturally.
Not Tereze’s best (which is ‘The Hideout’) but definitely feels like a more mature storytelling from the prolific author.
Firstly, I love Melissa's covers! This story had you feeling so many different things. I really liked the 2 MC's. Bex was such a cool, sexy 40+ woman, with a motorbike, confident but vunerable at times too. Swoon! Ellie had such a calming soul. Level headed, adorably shy at times. They where so good together. The chemistry and spice, from sweet tender moments to hello! Lol I really liked how they grew together, lust at 1st sight to facing all the drama. Bex's familly and Ellie's so called BF where ugly people if im honest, which ok added to the intended drama but just I cant like them, nope nope nope lol. As for the ex, what a loon! Tereze has another hit right here everyone!
This book was brilliant, likely one of the best one's I have read by Melissa Tereze. Right out the gate I was invested in the characters, wanting to know more. Ellis was such a strong character that really became the star of the book to me. I loved her personality and she how supported Bex through all the BS the family threw at her. Her unwillingness to sway to the opinions of others, even if it ment losing importnat people in her life showed such great character that you wished she was your friend in real life. And it wouldn't be a Melissa Tereze book if there wasn't the right amount of sexy spice thrown in there...I may never look at a hot tub the same way again ;)
This one is more of a contemporary, older femme/younger butch lesbian romance with plenty of drama, action and lust. The romance itself is between Ellis and Bex, Ellis' Best friend's aunt, but things get messy when they bring their relationship to the light. Them hitching up is not the end, however, as even when they actualize their romantic interest and find themselves in love, they find themselves equally and not-so-happily being rejected by Bex's sister, Ellis' best friend for years, and even her own family are at odds with her choice of "feminine interest."
This is the book that took me the longest to read. Not because it was hard to read or because I had a conflict with the themes in it... no. I just needed time to digest family relationships. Undoubtedly, my personal experience resonating with the story made me think and reread, as if the book would give me the answer to the question of why people are the way they are. And in fact, the book gave me the answer – simply because we are all different and quite often we lack respect for the other against us. We unconsciously try to impose our perceptions, needs and beliefs on the other – that’s how all the clashes happen. Love is the medicine. Unconditionally. The book is deep and incredibly good. I recommend it to everyone who is not afraid to meet the true face of human nature. It has my 5 stars.
This sits more at 3.5 for me. I'm not sure why I couldn't get into this read as I have other Melissa Tereze novels, but it was sort of a miss for me. The characters felt a bit rushed and so did the love story. Maybe it's that thriller aspect being tied in that made it feel rushed, I get wanting to get to the plot and then the forgiveness and happily ever after, but this just didn't hit the way I thought it would.
I was excited for this one to come out ... and it was definitely worth the wait!!
I LOVE BEX! Misunderstood, free- spirited, fun-loving, smart, and successful.
I LOVE ELLIS! Super kind, non judgmental, easy-going sweetheart with a heart of gold.
Together, they are hot!! But there was so much more going on in the story. It was so good! Poor Bex went through a lot, but she had the unconditional support of Ellis.
This is the second book that I have read by Melissa and I am hooked. Absolutely superb writing, and engaging storylines. The spice is sooo hot and K. A. Walsh as the narrator is icing on the cake. I am thoroughly hooked and look forward to reading more. I love the way she develops the characters and brings them to life. Bex had me salivating when I imagined her in that leather on her bike - Oooh Weee!!! Great read and I’m definitely an avid fan now
Melissa Terese really has produced a keenly compelling and different story encompassing family relations that are strained and adding a layer of tension and depth in a disturbing character, Leah. The quality of writing here is refined, being able to bring the dynamics of this story through right to the end. I am impressed and that rarely happens.
DNF- I read about 45% and just got really irritated with the repetitive dialogue. The character development was lacking and the parts that I read really could have been condensed into half the number of pages. A real frustrating read. The relationship between the MCs was also tedious and I didn’t feel their connection, the author writes by telling you they have a connection but it never truly felt real.
The push, the pull, the drama. Lovely play with characters and their roles. From the beginning, very impressive and intriguing. Too good to put down for the night. The way these characters are portrayed in such a multifaceted way is blowing my mind. The plot, the intrigue thickens and the further in the story you get the harder it gets to put the book down.
Wow what an incredible emotional story, the main characters were exceptional with so much at risk they stay true to who they are this book will break your heart while also fixing it to become better for it its definitely a emotional rollercoaster nothing is what you predicted as Melissa Tereze has used the twists in this story to hit when you least expect its a must-read congratulations
It's called It's All About Bex, but it's really all about Ellis, the sweet, charming butch who steals hearts and is one of the best characters I've read in a while. You know it'll end in a HEA, but oh, how it moves to that makes every page worthwhile.
