About the The Chronicles of Ross follows Gavin Alexander Ross through his adventures. This is not a typical thriller/suspense series; it is very character-driven. It unfolds slowly, with twists and turns, though there is plenty of suspense. It is a study in leadership, duty, loyalty, and revenge, with strong threads of coming-of-age, mystery, and history. Ross is a veteran US Marine officer who stumbles into a conspiracy while on vacation in Scotland. The result is a bitter blood feud that comes to absorb family, friends, employees, and even MI6, the British Royal Family, and the President of the United States. He is not CIA, former CIA, Delta Force, black-ops sniper, etc. He’s just a man, out of uniform more than 30 years, trying to make a difference. He finds himself in an unlikely position and decides to make the most of it. There is a little bit of gun battles, royal family, secrets, history, philosophy, coming-of-age, spies—you name it. All involving a cast of characters who join together organically into a true team—a family.
Very good. I really enjoyed it. The story line was well written. Characters are all interesting. I would like to meet Ross and just talk with him. Plenty of action and suspense. Recommended.
My Duty is an absolutely gripping and deeply satisfying read that stands out from typical action thrillers. Jerry Fedora delivers a story that is as much about character as it is about suspense, and that balance is what makes this book truly exceptional.
Gavin Ross is a refreshing protagonist, no over the top super agent clichés here. Instead, he’s a retired Marine navigating extraordinary circumstances with grit, intelligence, and a strong moral compass. His sense of duty feels authentic and compelling, making it easy to root for him from start to finish.
The plot unfolds at a steady, deliberate pace, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the world of political intrigue, royal stakes, and looming danger. The tension builds beautifully, with well placed twists that keep you engaged without feeling forced. The Scotland setting adds a rich, atmospheric backdrop that enhances the story’s tone.
What really elevates this book is its focus on themes like loyalty, leadership, and sacrifice. The relationships between characters feel genuine, and watching them evolve into a tight-knit “family” adds emotional depth that many thrillers lack.
Action packed at the beginning and then tapers off. It's extremely engaging and I can picture everything as it happens. It reads like a movie but some parts seem fast-forwarded and I wish it didn't.
I'm going to dive into the second book in the series but I hope the plot line doesn't just abruptly end like this one...which is the major reason this got 4 stars instead of 5.
The story started out as a murder mystery but then ended up telling the story of a man , his family and the trials he goes through to bring the family together.
Of course we are left hanging, a good story will always make you want more. And a good story it is. It's worth it to fall in love with all the characters. This is a gotta read, for sure.
