A station in peril. Brothers staring into the abyss.
Change doesn’t sit well with the Stallion brothers. They grew up relying on each other; now they’re separated by light-years, each walking a dangerous new path.

Trevor, once the dependable deputy, now faces unforeseen changes in his life and the threat of losing everything he holds dear - especially his beloved daughter Ana. As he grapples with these challenges, a mysterious man named Nexus reveals an existential threat to Amity Station.

Meanwhile, Connor fights to prove himself as a member of the Interdiction Fleet. Surrounded by comrades and superiors who push him to his limits, he begins to question the true motives of the United Naval Forces. But when he hears rumors of a secret unit formed to combat the Black Star scourge, Connor must decide where his loyalties lie.

As the brothers embark on their own journeys, they soon realize nothing is as it seems. And as they uncover shocking truths, they are forced to confront their own beliefs and make difficult choices that could change the course of the 40-world Collectorate.

With the fate of their home hanging in the balance, can Trevor and Connor stand on their own and overcome the challenges that lie ahead? Or will they succumb to the ever-shifting landscape of a galaxy in turmoil?

Shadow Gambit continues the story begun in Quiet War, as a new era in history begins.

While it might be possible to enjoy this as a stand-alone novel it would be difficult to appreciate the actions of the two Stallion brothers who are at the centre of the story.
The elder brother has now been promoted to lead investigator. In addition to the ongoing problem with the Black Star movement, which is seeking to spread interstellar chaos, he has an immediate problem to resolve involving an immigrant from a destroyed planet. He also faces the enmity of his immediate superior, the sector chief, and ongoing domestic problems.
Meanwhile the younger brother has joined the armed forces and we learn of his training and activities as part of the force aiming for direct action against Black Star.
While the book finishes with the current stories completed, the ending leads you into the next book in the series and the book is best considered as a chapter in the ongoing story. As such it is a worthwhile read, with well-rounded characters and great action.

I really enjoy this series. Trevor is a great character – flawed by trying to be a good man and father (his wife infuriates me). He’s caught up in complex geopolitics on the station, ad while leading is still under the influence of much larger players and factors.
His brother Connor plays a larger role here, with lots of breadcrumbs about the conflict to come.
Really great worldbuilding and interpersonal dynamics

I received a copy of this book from the author.

The story of brothers Trevor and Connor continues with many twists and turns that I couldn’t see coming.

I don’t want to give anything away other than to say that this is a compelling, well written story that I would heartily recommend.

I’m looking forward to book 3.

Wow, another awesome book. The Stallion Bros have always been together, all of a sudden they’re not. How can that be, Light Years apart, impossible! Will they find their way back together. Don’t miss out.
