Unjust power dynamics have echoed through the ages, from the time of medieval nobles to the days of modern corporate titans, but now that socioeconomic hierarchy is being called to task in this feel-good social commentary on the economic implications of workplace politics.

In the third installment of Parallel Planes, explore the misleadingly familiar world of X1912CE309. As a modernized form of feudalism takes hold of contemporary New York, three friends must navigate the boundaries of their social station to elevate working class New Yorkers like themselves from an increasingly oppressive socioeconomic system.

In their quest to tip the scales in favor of the average worker, the gutsy underdogs find themselves facing an uphill battle to bring about meaningful and lasting change in a world of deepening inequities.

In the latest installment of Parallel Planes, Ayden Lockwood introduces a touching new chapter in an alternate universe where modern-day feudalism reigns. This installment captivates readers with fresh characters who must navigate a precarious landscape defined by power, resource control, and the complexities of loyalty and personal responsibility.
Set against a backdrop of workplace hierarchies, the alternate timeline story follows a group of friends with more privilege than most, yet constantly aware of the looming threat posed by social and financial inequities. The world-building is both intricate and immersive, with the author carefully detailing a society where professional status and power are tightly interwoven, creating a palpable tension that underpins the narrative.
The new cast of characters adds depth and intrigue to the storyline. Gemma was introduced when the GRC visited this timeline in book one, is a resourceful rebel who challenges the status quo and embodies the struggle against the “establishment”.
What sets Feudal apart is its exploration of the ethics of power. As characters navigate the fine line between complicity and resistance, readers are invited to consider the complexities of privilege.
The pacing of the novel is nicely crafted, with a balance of conflict-filled sequences and quieter moments of introspection. The author takes time to develop the emotional arcs of the characters, allowing readers to connect with their struggles on a personal level. However, the multitude of new characters may occasionally lead to moments of confusion but does not take away from the difficult situations in which the main character finds herself.
Overall, Feudal is a strong addition to Parallel Planes, combining rich world-building with compelling social dynamics. Ayden Lockwood continues to excel in crafting a story that is not only feel-good but also thought-provoking, inviting readers to ponder the nature of power and its impact on society. Fans of speculative fiction will find themselves immersed in this relatable tale of ambition, resistance, and the fight for autonomy in a world dictated by socioeconomic stratification.

Feudal was a visceral experience. At first glance, the world seems similar to our own, it practically is our own with a modernized form of feudalism where the average person is basically an indentured servant bound to difficult or ineffectual bosses and organizations. The author does a fantastic job of crafting this relatable and compelling world, where social and economic systems have morphed into something subtly different. The exploration of this society, with its drifting socioeconomic centers, raises thought-provoking questions about power and privilege. What I love about this installment is how it balances moments of lightheartedness and social commentary, making you think while still keeping you entertained. Also, the GRC’s investigation adds layers of intrigue and moments of levity as the agents continue their mission. If you're into alternate reality stories that challenge your perceptions while delivering an engaging story, Feudal is definitely worth checking out!

Like the second book, another totally different setting is explored as the series revisits one of the alternate realities introduced in book one. I found the characters relatable and at times felt like I was in some of the meticulously constructed scenes. This book tackles socioeconomic issues and takes the characters through some taxing situations making the story thought-provoking and uplifting. I also like how the original story is continued around the new plot line. This was another quick and enjoyable read.

this was another great entry in this series, it had that charm that I was looking for from the previous two books. Ayden Lockwood had a strong writing style and was able to create wonderfully done concept and execution. The characters were everything that I was looking for and glad I got to read this. I was invested in the characters and how they worked in the universe.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
