What Then?
The worlds of Gina and James are separated by a gulf far wider than religion, culture or class. Ordinarily they would never meet but at the age of eighteen, days before they were due to embark on their chosen careers, they have a dream. Unknown to each other they have the same dream of meeting and falling in love. Both long to meet the other but they never do and never marry – no one ever matches up to the dream lover. Gina lives alone sharing her life with the ginger cat that is supposed to live next door, and spending time with her best friend Annabel. James devotes much of his spare time to his sister and her children. Since Gina and James never met they never realised the dream was shared, however the dream was so powerful and vivid that it changed the course of their lives. Gina wakes to the knowledge that she must investigate the power of dreams and becomes a professor of psychology specialising in sleep problems and dream therapy. James turns his back on the career in medicine his parents had mapped out for him and becomes a physicist. Thirty-five years later they dream together again. This time the dream continues and night after night they build a dream life together, living in an Italian Villa and walking in the gardens which are constantly permeated with the intoxicating aroma of the blue Summer Rose. During the day they try to find out why this is happening. For Gina life throws an unexpected solution. James has a surprising solution of his own.
