Supernatural and romantic retelling of Mr& Mrs. Smith with satisfying outcome! Yes, count me in! A powerful witch falls for geeky, boyish professor and their whirlwind romance sealed with marriage decision but their memorable wedding ceremony turns into the worst nightmare of their lives when secrets start to come out!

Savy/ Savannah, a part of CRONE ( Covert Responses to Occult Nightmares) , independent, self contained witch falls for the enemy. Because Griffin Carter is a secret and resourceful agent, working for a powerful organization targets the witches.

Saying there’s a bad blood between their agencies is not enough to emphasize the threat they both have to deal with!

There’s only two way to get out of this predicament: they can kill each other or they can team up to survive, fighting against the assassins who were sent to take their lives!

Well, this is extremely enjoyable, action packed, smart, exciting popcorn fantasy/ romance reading! I loved this one more than the author’s previous work and I definitely recommend to the fantasy romance lovers!

Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/ St. Martin’s Griffin for sharing this entertaining digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

One night Christopher was coming in and out of the room while I was rewatching Mr. & Mrs. Smith. He's not as much of a movie fan as me. During a pass through, I grabbed his shirt and said, "But what if the story was something like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two secret agents who fall in love and protect their covert identities from each other, but with MAGIC! What if one of them is a witch and one is a witch-hunter*?!" It's extremely rare for me to have an idea come to me this fully formed. I could instantly imagine the shape of the book, and the fun witchy flourishes I could draw on and new ones I might add. This book was such fun to write, and I hope that you fall in love with Savvy (and C.R.O.N.E.) and Griffin (and H.U.N.T.E.R.) and their friends as much as I did. *It's more like a history of conflict with the witches, because we don't date witch-hunters! ;)

Lots of witchy fun! Savannah Wilde is a powerful witch and an operative for C.R.O.N.E. (Covert Responses to Occult Nightmares). She had met a nerdy professor, Griffin, who is an operative for H.U.N.T.E.R (Humans Undertaking Nocturnal Terror and Evil Reduction) and fell in love. Now they are going to get married. Savvy must keep her witch secret from Griffin. But, Griffin must keep his H.U.N.T.E.R involvement from Savvy. They are each determined to maintain their secrets and still have a great marriage.

At the wedding, everything falls apart as their true identities are revealed. Not only that, Savvy is ordered to kill Griffin. And, Griffin is ordered to kill Savvy. They can follow through with their orders or team up and fight.

This book was so much fun! The characters are perfect. The dialog was stimulating and the plot moved quickly and kept my interest. I see that this is a reimagined retelling of Mr. and Mrs. Smith (which I tried to watch once, but didn't finish because I didn't like it). I may have to try to watch that again now.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on March 7, 2023.

I loved parts of this and did not care for parts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This story started with their bang up meeting and the insta feelings that you know are strong. The characters are wonderful and well matched. I really loved Griffin’s tender heart.
A dream wedding that then comes crashing down. That’s what made me a bit sad. Do they not love each other all of a sudden because of who they are and the chaos surrounding them everywhere? After all, they both have secrets not shared.
Then there is the bouncing between then and now that somewhat lost my interest. Strange happenings that don’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Some of the supporting characters bugged me
While the connection between the two of them did have its pull throughout, some pieces of this story seemed overly fantastical, like Bond was trying too hard. She lost me in many areas.
Overall, Mr. & Mrs. Witch is a fun read if you enjoy fantasy with a romantic twist. For me, I wish it was the other way around.
Sadly this book just wasn’t for me. I know people loved it but I struggled to get into it. The writing wasn’t my favorite and I couldn’t connect with the main characters. The plot itself wasn’t strong enough to keep me invested. While it wasn’t for me, I am glad others were able to enjoy it!
Calling the witch agency “C.R.O.N.E.” is SO clever. Gwenda Bond, you are a GENIUS.
Unbeknownst to each other, Savvy is an agent for C.R.O.N.E. (Covert Responses to Occult Nightmares by Enchantresses), and Griffin is an agent for H.U.N.T.E.R. (Humans Undertaking Nocturnal Terror and Evil Reduction). On their wedding day, it is revealed that Savvy is a witch and Griffin is a hunter, and safe to say, neither of them take it well.
Mr. & Mrs. Witch by Gwenda Bond was a delightful read. Yes, it is based off of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but the supernatural elements elevate it, and it becomes its own creation.
The love story between Savvy and Griffin is sweet. These characters have so much chemistry. Even while fighting, it is never doubted they love and trust each other. I appreciated how quickly (but not too quickly!) they made amends and started to work together.
At times, it felt like the story was afraid to go too far. Savvy and Griffin took the high ground often, meaning they were reluctant to eliminate very real threats or they easily forgave grievous wrongs. While in some instances it paid off, in others, it felt like the characters got away with their harmful actions way too easily.
The antagonists’ motivations were weak, and the final battle was lackluster. It was presented as a mystery, but it was apparent what was happening. Predictability is not a bad thing, but to watch two very clever characters be so clueless was frustrating, especially because their inner monologues spelled it out for the reader.
The supporting characters made this book. Savvy and Griffin’s support systems were so convivial and wholesome. Even the wacky familiars are charming.
A personal highlight: Griffin always let Savvy shine. She was no damsel, and he accepted that she was stronger without a fuss. This automatically made Griffin a forever-favorite book boyfriend.
Mr. & Mrs. Witch is a page-turner. The incorporation of common lore and caricatures was entertaining. Gwenda Bond built an immersive world that I would love to explore. I only have one question: Brie and Diego’s book when?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So fun! So sexy! (Oooeer!) All kinds of great stuff: spy tech, witchcraft, romance, adorable animal familiars, a house with chicken legs . . . all the things you need! I would love to see this world expanded, some stories about the other characters, this is a really fun playground and I hope Gwenda goes back to it!
Hold on for the ride of your life! On a broomstick, of course! Mr. & Mrs. Witch is a funny, cute read about two people who fall in love and decide to marry. Normally, by the time you arrive at the altar, there should be no surprises, but when Savannah Wilde and Griffin Carter reach the altar, all their secrets explode in their faces.
Savvy is a witch, although her fiancée has no idea. She honestly never thought she would fall in love, let alone marry someone, let alone a mortal, but she had instant chemistry when she met Griffin Carter, a professor.
Griffin Carter can’t believe his luck! He is marrying the love of his life, Savvy. They have known each other for a year, and they fit perfectly together in every way. He still feels a sense of angst when he thinks about the fact that although she thinks he’s a professor, he really works for a secret company who hunt witches. But thank goodness there is no reason for her to know.
So, as they both stand at the altar, ready to begin their life together, waiting to take their vows which will seal the deal, as they look around at the guests who have come to witness these glorious nuptials, they begin to notice some unsavory characters. Griffin sees a witch, but not just a witch, an important witch they have been going after for years. Savvy sees a Hunter, not just an ordinary hunter of witches, but the head of the company that tries to kill them. What on earth are they doing at the wedding?
As Savvy and Griffin stand at the altar, they both realize they have been keeping some pretty dark secrets. That’s when all hell breaks loose and both sides begin to curse the other side. Savvy and Griffin are in shock! They can’t marry! It would be a crime! So, they do the only proper thing…they scream at each other and leave with their respective families.
Unfortunately for them, Savvy has been banished from her coven and Griffin has lost his job. Even worse, they have both been put on a hitlist, by the higher ups. None of this makes any sense, and even though they both realize they can never marry; they decide to work together to figure out what is really going on.
And this is when the real fun begins, as we get to glimpse how they met and how the relationship progressed. With the help of their families, familiars and friends, the lovebirds begin to piece a not so nice puzzle together that seems to have been going on for centuries. Now, if they can just solve it, before they are killed!
Mr. & Mrs. Witch is an exceptionally enjoyable read with plenty of mystery, sarcasm, laugh out loud moments and love.
Romance, Mystery and Magic is blended together to make this one a fantastic read!
I loved the movie Mr and Mrs Smith, this book has the same vibe however it’s a bit more enchanting and doesn’t get quite as bloody.
Find your HEA in this magical mystery!
This is a prime example of a book giving out major metaphorical blue balls. Whenever anything fun and action packed (ex: fight scenes against enemies) starts to takes place, it's literally over in just a paragraph or switching to the past timeline. Blink and you'll miss it.
The past chapters should've been cut down since half of them didn't really add anything to enhance the story. They did nothing for the romance. The pacing and tone were inconsistent especially with the odd jokes thrown throughout. Having a POV from their pet was super weird. History of the coven and hunters weren't really given until almost 70% in. By then, I pretty much lost interest. All the details should've been given in the first quarter. The ending? Another poof and gone moment.
There was so much potential here but it kept consistently missing the mark where it could've shined greatly. Also, it was pointed out early on that she's actually taller than him and doesn't like to wear heels. Now look at the book cover. lol
3.5 stars. A fun, silly romance about a witch and a witch hunter who fall in love, not knowing that they're enemies. Think Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but with witchcraft! A light, enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Mr. & Mrs. Witch.
I was instantly drawn to the premise; a magical remake of Mr. & Mrs. Smith?
Count me in.
** Minor spoilers ahead **
This started off well, a wedding between our main protagonists that ends poorly, but even with the supernatural world building (which I enjoyed), Mr. & Mrs. Witch was too romance-y for me.
The main issue for me was how I couldn't connect to Savvy or Griffin. I didn't dislike them.
I just didn't care about them.
The author provides flashbacks on how they met, how their relationship developed, and this was typical chick lit romance.
There are plenty of scenes of magic and fighting off the bad guys, but the biggest plot thread is the bounty on Savvy and Griffin's head.
As they discover the conspiracy between the Butcher and Circe, their deepest, darkest secrets is quickly revealed, Savvy and Griffin lay down their terms, and everyone just goes along with it?
I didn't buy it.
Also, I enjoy and appreciate a good sex scene as much as the next person but I could have done without them here.
I guess the author wanted to show Savvy and Griffin's sexual chemistry but it disrupted the narrative and took me out of the magical world the author was building.
Savvy and Griffin were like horny teenagers hooking up while everyone else just dicked around and waited for them to be finished.
The author describes repetitively about what a goddess Savvy is (Griffin's nickname for her), how she's so tall and striking, how Griffin is a tall, nerdy drink of water (how Savvy describes him), over and over.
I understand this is a romance but...chill.
We get it. They're gorgeous, horny, and in love. Let's move on.
Despite the high stakes of the narrative, the tone of the writing lacked urgency and suspense.
Everything is quickly wrapped up, everyone and everything falls into place, there is no pushback from the hunters or witches or anyone else.
Everyone falls into line because...Savvy and Griffin are natural leaders?
I found it very difficult that Savvy and Griffin are so powerful and so good at what they do when nothing about their characters indicate any of these worthy qualities.
They're not dumb; they're just a regular witch and hunter doing their jobs. That's all.
This had great potential but read as just another humdrum romance with a bit of magic sprinkled in. I wasn't enchanted.
I had trouble getting into this one, though the premise sounded right up my alley. Clever outwitting a la the film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, adding magic? Sign me up!
And there isn't anything wrong with Glenda Bond's writing. After thought, I'd blame the editor here, because the story really ought to have started with their meeting, instead of with the wedding, which went far too fast before we knew any of the players. Then the story jolts to a stop every chapter or so for a long flashback. And we get way, way more hotcha than clever outwitting or at least for me.
I think I would have fallen right in if the story had been linear. But other readers might totally disagree. All the other elements are lots of fun. And I'll definitely read more by this author.
This was a super fun paranormal fantasy retelling of Mr & Mrs Smith that sees a witch hunter and a witch falling in love and getting married without realizing who the other truly is. Told in flashbacks and full of suspense, spice and a great cast of secondary characters. This was a highly entertaining read and great on audio too narrated by Luke Daniels and Amy Landon. Highly recommended! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
This was just straight up FUN. The connection I felt between Savvy and Griffin lept off the page. The beginning of the book starting off with a Bewitched quote didn't hurt either. Savvy is a witch, she meets Griffin on one of her quests in England and they instantly connect. She leaves the next day, never to see him again. Until, one day, she does. She and Griffin are in France at the same time and now she thinks it's more than just a coincidence, it has to be fate bringing them together.
Griffin hasn't been able to get the girl he met the one night in England out of his mind. So when he sees her in France, he knows it is meant to be. They even discover that they live in the same city at home. So, they agree to meet in one month at their favorite bookstore. If they both show, they know this will turn into something more.
Griffin is a HUNTER. This means, he destroys anything paranormal out there that is a threat to humanity. like say, witches. When they both discover what the other truly is, not only will they have to fight the one they love, but the ones that are out to destroy them both.
This story of opposites coming together, working together, was just so fun. Griffin was steadfast, he loved Savvy with all his heart and he was going to prove to her that nothing could tear them apart, not even her being the one thing he has been trained to destroy. He knows he loves her and that is all that matters. Savvy isn't quite sure that love will prevail in the end. They both have so many things to get through, in the end will it be enough? I loved it so much!
To me this was an okay read. I liked some part of this, but didn't like some parts. It was a fun fantasy read with a touch of romance - I wish there was more romance.
It was action packed, smart, and predictable (to me). The love story was sweet and I saw their chemistry. The final battle was lackluster and a little disappointing with everything turning out too perfectly.
Mr. & Mrs. Witch
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Author: Gwenda Bond
GR: 3.61
I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.
My Thoughts: In typically do not care for fantasy books, not my genre. However, throw a witch and some magic, and I am in! This duo, each powerful in their own agency, and secretive agencies. The swoonest relationship to end in a wedding kicks off the beginning of a nightmare that will take power from within to get through. This would be a perfect read anytime of the year, but especially at Halloween.
The story is a dual narration. Savy is a very independently strong witch. Griffin is a compassionate witch hunter. This was more than a romance. It had a fantasy element. An action element. A mystery element. And a swoony romance element. The characters were developed well. The chemistry and witty banter between the characters was fantastic and added to the novel. The author’s writing style was magical, swoony, humorous, and creative.
I enjoyed this story and would recommend for other readers. Even if you do not like fantasy, I would give this one a try. I am hoping there will be a book two involving Diego and Brie.
I seriously loved this book! Everything I could ask for in a witchy, tongue-in-cheek, romantic story. Savvy and Griffin are about to be married when they discover she’s a witch and he’s a hunter. From that point on it was nonstop fun and action. I loved the flashback stories of how Savvy and Griffin met and fell in love. Can’t wait to read more from Gwenda Bond.
I love books about witches. And own probably a ridiculous number of them. So of course I had to grab Mr. & Mrs. Witch, a recent addition to the world of witchy reads. Delightfully quirky, funny and at times steamy, this book featured a cast of super adorable characters, lots of action and quite a bit of entertainment. Though it was quite a departure from the usual stories of magic and witches, I enjoyed it nevertheless.
Savannah Wilde and Griffin Carter have an unforgettable wedding day - in the worst way possible. Though very much in love, Savannah and Griffin kept something important from each other - she is an extremely powerful witch with an organization called C.R.O.N.E and he is a witch hunter for a rival group called H.U.N.T.E.R. Tasked with eliminating each other (permanently) the pair also finds themselves a target of an outsourced hit by an unknown entity.
It was impossible not to root for Savannah and Griffin. The title felt like a nod to Mr. & Mrs. Smith with a magical twist. Though some of the world building felt a bit unclear at times, the charming love story, interesting characters and flashbacks to how Savannah and Griffin met kept me so entertained that I didn't mind so much. There were quite a bit of humour and my favorite part of all - a fascinating group of animal familiars. This one is for fans of witchy fiction but also for those who love their love with a side of magic and action.
A big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Secret identities, opposing agencies, magic, conflict, and lies are no match for love in this supernatural take on Mr and Mrs. Smith.
Savy is an agent of a secret witch agency trying to keep the world safe from magic, Griffin is an agent of a human agency also trying to keep the world safe from magic. They are opposing agencies who hate each other. They are about the get married, not know the others secret identities. At the alter their covers are blown and everything evolves into chaos. After both agents regroup they end up together at another standoff at their shared home only to realize the leaders of their agencies have fired them and put a price on their heads. As love wins out, and they try to keep each other safe they may uncover a conspiracy that goes back hundreds of years.
I absolutely loved and had the best time reading this one. I had read some of Gwenda Bond's novels before and was not the biggest fan, but this one was a home run in my opinion. The story was so fun, and it had a perfect balance of elements. The flashbacks worked so well to show us the build in their relationship, the side characters gave so much to the story. It was just wonderful on every level.
A fun, witchy romp that includes all of the best things to love about the original Mr. & Mrs. Smith and plunges it into an unmistakably unique world. I was reminded of India Holton's latest series — this feels like the contemporary cousin to the Gentlewomen Witches, in a lot of ways! And I really enjoyed the approach to dual timelines, once again, as the story jumps between past and present to show their lives before Savvy and Griffin ever knew the truth about each other to the fateful day that changes everything. Of course, learning each other's secrets only makes them more interested in each other because now they're not holding back who they really are — and the results are probably even hotter than they were when they had to hide. Potential start to a new series now that CRONE and HUNTER have joined forces? I'd gladly spend more time in this world with these characters any day.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This quirky supernatural romcom was so fun, and felt so fresh and new. I loved the way Gwenda Bond took a popular movie and gave it a twist that made the entire concept feel new.
This book was light on spice, but HEAVY on action, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Because there was so much action, the story didn't drag. It went from zero to one hundred and stayed there until the end. I also really loved how the author used flashbacks, it really worked for this book.
I definitely recommend this book, especially for fans of supernatural romance!
