ZoD Failing my people is not an option and I’ll do whatever is needed to make sure that doesn’t happen, that is until she runs into my arms. Now the universe be damned because I will sacrifice them all to keep her safe. My very soul reaches for her, but no matter how hard I fight to get to her. My Amouri is just out of reach. Will she ever come to terms with the things that have been forced upon her? Will she finally see the male that is standing right in front of her? Or will my fears push her away?
Tessa I closed my eyes in one world only to open them in another. Terrified and disoriented, I flee, only to find myself trapped in an enormous embrace of the universe’s largest arms. Now I am in a world I don’t understand, surrounded by others who are leery of their master’s new pet. He says all the right words, but am I brave enough to let go of the past and trust what he says is true? Can I turn my back on all that I knew just because I am here now? Or will the creatures hunting them all take my choices away?
This book,... as all others in this series... has extreme triggers and is intended for a mature audience only! Most can be read as stand-alone, but they are much better if read together. I have a boy job by day... and the world of imagination at night... I believe dragons, unicorns and vampires are real... because what fun would this world be if they were not !!!
I like Sci-fi tales because anything goes, and it's not weird. The world that Jennifer has created is full of modern technology, along with AIs that are more than they seem.
The story is told in multiple POV, which makes the story more immersive. There is action, a variety of aliens; some are truly evil, and others are just big, deadly teddy bears.
ZoD is the thirteenth book in the Daverius, House of DAR series, and tells the story of ZoD and Tessa.
What a great and original read! It is heartbreaking, sad, loving, and heart-warming, with some fun moments.
If you thought DaR set the standard for protective alien warriors, Jennifer Julie Miller said “hold my sweet tea” and gave us ZoD. In the previous book, all we knew was that Commander ZoD had slung a screaming human woman over his shoulder and disappeared down a corridor looking suspiciously unhinged. Naturally, I needed his story immediately… and once again Jennifer Julie Miller absolutely delivered. If you’re new to the House of DaR series, I highly recommend starting from the beginning because this universe is massive, layered, and built around one of my favorite tropes: fiercely loyal found family. At the center of it all is DaR and his sons- a family of absolute bad-asses willing to destroy anyone who threatens the people they love… including the fierce human women who become their mates.
ZoD gives us a different dynamic. He’s essentially DaR’s equal in another territory, but instead of sons, he’s surrounded by 3 daughters and 1 son. That shift creates such a fun emotional contrast while still keeping the same core themes of loyalty, devotion, protection, and love.
Jennifer’s Appalachian roots shine throughout her writing. The deep family bonds, Southern humor, stubborn loyalty, and “bless your heart” sass make these characters feel alive in a way that sets this series apart from many alien romances. These books have action, humor, emotional depth, and warriors who may look terrifying, but are complete teddy bears for their women and families.
The audiobook narration is perfection. Tor Thom brings that deep commanding baritone that these alien warriors require, while Emily Sutton-Smith delivers the perfect balance of Southern sass, heart, and humor. Honestly, I cannot imagine anyone else voicing this world. Highly recommended for readers who love: found family trope with a main course of protective alien warriors with a side of Southern Sass.
Plot Spoilers Ahead: I really enjoyed the adventure this book took me on. But I feel that the author should have gone through all 23 sons of DaR in the House of DaR books. Then start a new series of book on the adventures of DaR and his family. When I started reading this book I thought it would be another son of DaR but it’s not. It’s a story about a Commander of a world under attack. The Elders of the system wide Ruling Council dismiss and hid the problem that Commander ZoD has. (ZoD is another Commander that has to put his sperm up for women to compete for like DaR.) But DaR’s family learns about it and comes to help. DaR at first thinks that ZoD is too proud to ask for help but DaR learns the truth about the ruling Elders. It had a great love story with a human woman interwoven in the plot along with both families working together with ZoD to rid the planet of the worms/slugs killing ZoD’s people. Great story! Worth reading. I didn’t spoil the whole story!
An intense, emotional story of duty, survival, and love
ZoD is a formidable male dedicated to his people, determined to do whatever is necessary to protect them until Tessa literally runs into his arms. His focus becomes solely on keeping Tessa, his Amori, safe. ZoD's devotion and the deep, soul-reaching connection he feels endear him as the MMC.
Tessa grapples with trusting the powerful male who claims her and with letting go of the past she was forced to leave behind. She struggles to trust ZoD and his words. The real heart of the story is ZoD's unwavering devotion to her. The sheer size and power of ZoD contrasted with his gentle pursuit of Tessa is captivating to read.
Overall, this installment in the House of DaR series is an intense, emotional adventure that is highly satisfying with a hard-won happily ever after you'll be completely invested in.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from ZoDs book, because he wasn’t part of DaRs inner circle. I was pleasantly surprised and happy that a lot of our favorite characters made it into this book. There are so many plot lines that lead me to believe that they are going to be even more books in the series and I cannot wait! You are just now seeing this author. Please go back and read all the other books in this series, and the Forsaken series you will not be disappointed!
This book is part of the Dar universe and it was a good addition to the series. In this book we get an old friend of Dar named Zod. Now Zod and his people are struggling due to a dangerous and numerous enemy. He has his best scientists working on the issue but time is running out. One of Zod’s associates brings him a human female. However, this one smells amazing and pulls Zod in from first sight. There is a happy ending and another good addition to the Dar-universe. Read On!
I really love this series but boy is it bad for my health, couldn't stop reading, ended up finishing at 4 am and only 3 hours sleep before work! I've enjoyed every subject single book, following the thread of the story with all the different characters who are all intertwined - Zod who wasn't the bad guy we thought he was previously, I loved him. Looking forward to the next one - gimme gimme gimme......please......I'll give you my firstborn......
I've read each of the books and in my opinion they each are every bit as good as the last. Each has its own story but at some point Dar comes in to help. ZoD wasn't related to Dar but lived in that galaxy. He had real problems. Disgusting evil almost impossible to kill. Until a human came up with the answer. I loved how ZoD stepped in to care for Tessa. And what a sassy one there! If you haven't read these please do. You won't be sorry.
So I was relieved to see that ZoD was not the bad guy I assumed he was at the facility. SiN and Jade set the scene perfectly and only the women from the now defunct Earth could come up with solutions that could save the day. Spicy as always, I hope there are more in this series!
I have read every book in this series. I own them. This book I think I'm getting a refund. I stopped reading at 6% when the FC spit in the MC face. I knew I wasn't going to like this book when the MC said he wasn't going to ask DaR for advise even though he should. I couldn't even get past 6%
Please continue this saga if you can. Those of you who enjoy reading of Love and strength, who believe families can be built and not just Blood bound, if you enjoy magic and reading of those who don't give up the fight will love this. Start from the beginning, read Dar , you won't regret it. Love this Author's work .
Oh My Goodness I think I have a new book boyfriend. ZoD, he is second to Dar. Loved the love between ZoD and Tessa 🔥🔥🔥. To the author the illustrations are fantastic. If you have not read this series, what are you waiting for. I just started re-reading the series a few weeks ago. Looking forward to more from House of Dar.
All I can say is, WOW!! This is a heart-ache, heart warming, laugh to keep from crying and then cry anyway to keep her sanity, do what I have to do to save my people, I love my mate, my sexy alien loves me, bring on the steam, let's call an army, worm a**-kickin, adventure among the stars! WHEW!! I loved EVERY page and will I reread it? Yes. Do I recommend it? YES!
Jennifer girl it just keep getting better, I love that you keep all the characters all In twine with each other. I would love to see what ZoD and Tessa create out of their planet. Hopeful the next book is about love of Dar' s sons. From a top fan.
This story was great. I liked the idea of the war on Waldrin and how things went. I am surprised about how so many earth women are such foul mouthed people to the aliens but it’s just so common. It’s not something I enjoy.
OMG All I can say is this book was amazing A lot of action I was scared to death A lot and a lot of love Between family And friend I can't wait To read the next book In this Series Thank you
This book was wild from the get go! If you like action, drama, romance, true love, and dissolving invasive alien bugs with rock salt guns. This is the book for you!!! Five Stars for dayyyyysssss!!
Another sexy alien added to the list of hotness! Loved this one . I also would love for Zoe’s oldest daughter to get her a human sexy soldier yah buddy ! That would be epic. Alien women need some earth loving too lol who agrees with you?
I absolutely love these books and this author. I hope there are more to come. I hate to see the end of series . I love these characters. I look forward to more!💖💖❤
A story with lots of action, monsters, romance, and family interactions. It was an engaging story that brought together two men that are working toward a common goal.
Each story adds to the previous one. The main characters were engaging. The story had everything, danger, humor, love, enemies, and a HEA. What’s not to like!
