New emphasis on the impacts of globalization, events in the Middle East, and political and economic changes in East Asiaas well as new information and maps throughoutare among the features of this thoroughly revised edition of The World Since 1945.The text traces the major political, economic, and ideological patterns that have evolved in the global arena from the end of World War II to the present, providing the background needed for a solid understanding of contemporary international relations. Written to be student friendly, it has made its place as the text of choice in scores of introductory IR and world history courses.
Being a student of International Relations, I found this book disrespectful, distracted, and full of tunnel visions. I respect "every religion" and promote interfaith harmony. Unfortunately, in the name of freedom of expression, the authors have insulted the basic moral values especially by adding a complete chapter named, "Militant Islam". Like seriously? Just on the basis of few, you cannot blame the whole religion. It is the highest level of barbarism and ignorance. Remember, because of Ku Klux Klan you cannot say or coin "Militant Christianity". Authors should respect every religion, including Islam. And they should write rationally, not emotionally. Note: the book is much opinion oriented, not good for general study.
A blow-by-blow account of a battered, bruised world after WW II. Exhaustive and interesting, it coerces the reader to look for a fuller and more objective understanding of the issues that continue to roil the globe. It reminds us that our political history is not just a mere representation of facts, but brims alive with controversies and conflicting ideas.
This is the first non-fiction book that I have read since I started reading. I learned so many new things which I didn't know before. Totally enjoyed it. Thanks to the authors
Almost in the style of briefing papers for a number of the world’s politics hotspots, we are introduced to the various problematic decisions made by politicians with either ideological, religious or corrupt intent. The reader will be surprised how many times professional advice has fallen victim to expediency or ignorance in pursuit of short term political advantage, at huge cost to the nation’s life and treasure. Perhaps there is hope going forward, if only more people would read this book thoughtfully from cover to cover!
