In the heart of Cairo, a timeless curse smoulders through the ages, its strength diminishing but never fully quenched. When archaeologists disturb the tomb of the malevolent serpent lord, an ancient evil awakens. When the spheres align in the duat (underworld), this sets in motion a series of events that entangle the participants in a dangerous game that finds them teetering between life and death, love and hate.
Oblivious to the looming danger, young Samantha Fox is thrust into a realm of shadows and dreams. A cryptic premonition urges her to flee, but a fateful accident propels her toward her destiny. Rescued by James Stewart, she finds solace in his protection – but also emotional turmoil. Caught between her emotions and the sinister darkness that once consumed her long-lost mother, Samantha engages in a tumultuous struggle for her soul.
Stephanie du Toit is a versatile woman whose life is a complex tapestry woven with the threads of a corporate career and creativity. Her deep fascination with the supernatural, spirituality, creativity and the paranormal finds expression in her debut novel Cold Fire, Alchemy of a Broken Curse.

The synopsis of Cold Fire intrigued me and I was excited to read it. The story is fast-paced and has an element of mystery and romance. You can expect a kind of 'chosen one' mixed with 'fated mates'. There is a fortune teller and a dire warning, all of which add to the book's tension.
"I want everybody to know that you belong to me."
The story takes place in South Africa, but it has an underlying darkness of a lingering curse which had me asking all kinds of questions. I would like to know more about this curse and what caused it. The author managed to weave mystery and romance in an interesting way and I am curious to know where Samantha's story will go next. There is a protective MMC and an adorable little girl who likes Cinderella. I enjoyed the romance and would like to see more of these characters.
Many thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
