It is a fact not generally known that in 1940 the prime minister secretly arranged for Britain’s entire gold reserves to be transported through U-boat-infested waters to America, in five ships. Travis works as a banker and is also a Nazi spy. To uncover details of the shipment he sets out to attract the attentions of Claire, a bank official. When his relationship with the vulnerable Claire becomes more complicated he ends up on the run with knowledge that could win the war for Germany. Can Travis alert Berlin in time to sink the treasure ships? And can Claire find the strength to kill the man she has grown to love? In this taut thriller, Alexander Lindsay combines fact and fiction to devastating effect.

Enjoyable spy novel. Fast paced and the characters were interesting, a bit of humanity and romance, not just "boy's own adventure". I would read more of these.

A young Irish boy witnesses the murder of his family by British forces (the black and tans). Years later, after immigrating to America, he is approached by the IRA to work with nazi Germany against the British. He travels to England and befriends a woman in the hope of gaining confidential information but begins to fall in love.

Who'd be a spy!!😁

A very straightforward spy thriller, defiantly a good read, not unlike some of early Ken Follett spy novels in some of the instances and style.Easy to read, plenty of action to hold ones attention, the end not quite finalised so maybe later a continuation.😎All in all I enjoyed the novel.☺

A tense thriller

A really gripping book with a clever blend of actual events and the story that the author feedback expertly weaves around them.

A very interesting subject about which I knew very little. How Churchill moved the UK's gold reserves to safety in Canada in 1940. The author employs a spy acting for the Germans as the protagonist in a believable fictional account of the true story. The only weakness was his anachronistic description of a weapon which the vast majority of readers would probably not notice but brought my reading to a sudden halt. This is not a good thing as the reader relies on the author to be meticulous in his research with a story like this. However, this did lead me to find more factual accounts of the events and enhanced my knowledge of this particular episode in WW2 history.
