He’s bent on destroying everything she values, stealing her heart in the process.
As a vicar’s daughter, Emily Thompson has always put her family’s reputation first, even when it meant setting aside her aspirations of joining the Royal Art Academy. But when a notorious London rake is accosted in her sleepy Costwold village and her quick thinking saves the libertine’s blackened soul, that reputation she’s so carefully guarded is left vulnerable to vicious gossip.
Agent Lord Jacob Edward Warren’s silver tongue can’t save him when he’s staring down the barrel of a vengeful husband’s gun. but an enchanting damsel’s skill with a bow and arrow offers him the hope of tomorrow. Intrigued by Miss Thompson’s quiet charm, he commissions the budding artist to paint his portrait, but his intensions change when he discovers this beguiling beauty holds not only his chance at redemption but also the intelligence he’s been assigned to gather.
The time spent in Lord Warren’s company has Emily wondering if he’s hiding more than charm and wit behind his reputation as a rake. But when she’s drawn into Jacob’s noble cause, the web of danger proves more perilous than either of them are prepared to face.

Redeeming the Rake is a delightful Regency romance filled with romance, danger, wit, & faith. I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I loved Lord Jacob Warren, the handsome former rake who’s an undercover agent for the crown & trying to mend his ways. He’s extremely charming & witty. I also enjoyed Emily Thompson who’s fiercely protective of those she loves, a talented artist, & crack shot.
The story begins with a daring meet cute where Emily literally rescues Lord Warren. He’s on a mission to restore his aunt’s home, disrupt a highwaymen thieving ring, & try to find his five year old son. Though Jacob’s reputation proceeds him, he’s determined to show Emily he’s a changed man.
Emily’s the vicar’s adopted daughter & carries her own scars of her birth. She’s unknowingly been caring for Jacob’s son as her adopted brother. As she gets to know Jacob, she sees his goodness & desire for change. Yet, as she learns his secrets & his past comes back to haunt them, she must choose whether to accept his love or give into her own fears.
I loved the messages of redemption & overcoming the past. Both Jacob & Emily have a reputation, Jacob’s due to his past actions & Emily’s due to the judgments regarding her birth. Throughout the story they must learn to accept themselves for who they are & what God sees rather than society. Their lovely romance is filled with plenty of obstacles including a mystery which threatens them both. The exciting conclusion had me on pins & needles as Sarah & Jacob must draw on their faith & strength to fight a particularly nasty villain. It’s an engaging story I couldn’t put down.
Highly recommend! Though part of a series, it’s easily read as a standalone. I received an advanced complimentary copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.
“His handler would never believe he’d been saved by a Valkyrie.”
How I adored this latest book in the Agents of Espionage series! Redeeming the Rake cemented itself as my favorite of the three so far and may even be my favorite of Lorri Dudley’s books overall. Which is saying a lot because I love everything she’s written. From the wonderfully unique meet-cute (go, Emily!) to the beautiful finale, I was completely absorbed in Jacob and Emily’s story.
Lord Jacob Warren is seen as a rake, a devil-may-care libertine with no sense of responsibility, a Regency bad boy if you will. Readers very quickly realize, however, that there’s more to Jacob’s reputation than meets the eye. While he does have a moral lapse in his past (one that plays a significant role in this story), for the sake of his role as an agent for the Home Office it’s easier to lean into his reputation than redeem it. But oh dear readers, redemption finds him anyway and I was so touched by his spiritual growth. I also loved Jacob’s flirty side and sense of humor (especially as it relates to hilariously getting under his older brother’s skin), and I’m pretty sure if I knew Jacob in real life I wouldn’t ever be able to stop grinning like a besotted fool around him.
“She knew nothing of flirting, but something inside told her this was how it was done, and Lord Jacob Warren was the master.”
Emily Thompson is the local vicar’s daughter, a talented artist, a devoted sister, a witty young woman of high moral standing and a crack shot. Beneath those layers, however, is a secret from her past that, though not of her own doing, holds her hostage and keeps her from fully living, from chasing her dreams, and even from embracing the possibility of romance. I really enjoyed the artistic contrast of Jacob trying to keep a false reputation (for the sake of his undercover work) and Emily trying to keep a true one. I also appreciated the emphasis – between Jacob’s story and Emily’s – that how others might define you is irrelevant when it comes to how God sees you. On a more shallow note (lol) Jacob and Emily’s chemistry was deliciously swoonworthy (as always with Dudley’s romantic leads), and their witty banter gave me all the smiles.
“Jesus came to give people like you and me a new life. You are exactly who He wants to hear from!”
Bottom Line: I have lost count of all the ways I loved Redeeming the Rake by Lorri Dudley, and if I were to name them all, this review would become even more intolerably long than it already is. Suffice it then to say, this combination of wit, redemption, spiritual growth, intrigue, family, and romance is done to delightful perfection by a master of the Regency genre. Not only did Jacob and Emily capture my heart but so did Jacob’s aunt and her elderly half-deaf butler (who made me guffaw out loud more than once) and Emily’s young & precocious brother Christian. The mystery of jewel thieves and highwaymen that Jacob and a familiar face from book two are working to solve gave the book a delicious underlying mood of intrigue – and more than one chance for Emily to show off her cheer-worthy girl power. More than anything though, the book’s touching message is one that’s just as meaningful for us in the age of influencers, cancel culture, and social media as it is for the Regency era in which the story is set.
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
This is a new author for me. Her writing style is easy to read, and she has researched well the vocabulary and customs of the time period. The weaving of Biblical themes within the plot was well done, pointing the characters and us to the One Who can truly change the heart.
Regency is not my normal genre; the titles and family dynamics get lost on me, and I also don’t care for the snooty, judgmental, and immoral character of the era. The theme of redemption was enough for me to give it a try and I found it enjoyable.
Jacob has a sincere desire to change from his old life and seeks to right the wrongs he has committed to be a better, moral person. Emily has much to learn; she can’t change who she is by birth, but that stigma doesn’t define her. She must learn to see herself as God sees her: redeemed and His child. Little Christian adds a sweetness and innocence to the plot. The banter between Jacob and Emily made me smile/laugh at times. There is also danger, betrayal, bad men and women, kindness, compassion, tears, laughter, joy, sorrow, and romance between the pages.
I would recommend the reader be aware of the more adult themes given in the plot. There are no rude or obscene acts detailed and no language used; just the facts given of unwise choices made that some may find hard to read. I received a complimentary copy and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.
What happens when a vicar’s daughter and a notorious rake collide? In Redeeming the Rake, Lorri Dudley tosses us into a lively dance of wit, danger, and heartfelt redemption set against the lush backdrop of Regency England.
There's something utterly captivating about Emily Thompson, the vicar's daughter who’s more than just a dutiful daughter. Her quiet strength and unexpected boldness in the face of scandal and danger make her a character that sticks with you. Balancing her aspirations with the weight of her family's reputation, she is both relatable and inspiring. I couldn't help but cheer for her as she stood her ground, even when her choices risked everything she values.
Then there's Jacob Warren. Ah, Jacob. The notorious rake with more layers than a wedding cake. His sharp wit and charm make him impossible to dislike, even when you know he’s up to no good. What really drew me in was watching his journey—a man grappling with his past, his purpose, and a redemption he didn’t know he needed. His interactions with Emily are like a brilliant chess game, full of strategy, surprises, and occasional checkmates. Their chemistry is off the charts, and what truly makes their relationship shine is how respect and the ongoing struggle between faith and redemption add depth to their interactions.
Dudley excels at blending romance with suspenseful intrigue. The chemistry between Emily and Jacob is charged with playful tension and genuine emotional depth. One moment you’ll be laughing at their witty exchanges, and the next, you’ll be moved by the weight of their struggles. The authentic dialogue enriches the historical setting and gives the characters vibrant, true-to-life voices.
The central themes of redemption and forgiveness are woven seamlessly into the narrative, echoing the profound truths of faith. Emily’s journey and Jacob’s quest for redemption highlight the powerful message that true change comes when we surrender to Jesus, often sparked by grace and forgiveness. As one character reflects, “… Jesus paid a high price for us … You and I are precious to God.”
Dudley’s portrayal of faith is both natural and inspiring. Christian themes integral to the plot, reinforcing the idea that God’s grace and salvation reshape lives in unexpected ways. The characters’ faith journeys are portrayed with sincerity, emphasizing the transformative power of faith and the comfort of trusting God in adversity. Dudley assimilates Christian faith not only in the dialogue but in the characters’ actions, choices, and quiet moments. The story underscores that redemption is available to all, regardless of our pasts.
The secondary characters add layers of charm and humor to the story. From Jacob’s endearing aunt and her quirky butler to Emily’s spirited younger brother, each one enriches the narrative with their distinct personalities and delightful interactions. Their presence adds a delightful texture to the novel, making it a thoroughly enjoyable read. I found myself laughing out loud several times.
Redeeming the Rake is a richly satisfying blend of romance, intrigue, and spiritual growth. It entertains, uplifts, and lingers. This story beautifully reflects the grace that transforms us all—a timely reminder that even in a world of rakes and rogues, redemption is always within reach.
I received a digital copy of Redeeming the Rake from the publisher and Celebrate Lit Publicity Group. I am not required to write a positive review in any way or for any reason. My honest and unbiased opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing style, the pacing, and the story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability.
Redeeming the Rake by Lorri Dudley is a masterful combination of engaging intrigue, magnetic romance, and witty humor. Their love and romance is made all the more enjoyable in its “opposites attract” undercurrent…she the virtuous & quiet vicar’s daughter and he the wild but charming lady’s man. I was especially drawn to the central theme of forgiveness and redemption as played out in their changing experiences. Their story is a good reminder that the truth about a person or their potential to change is not always what meets the eye. It is a heartwarming story of the power of God to change a person’s life, the power of forgiving ourselves and others, and the freedom to live above the prejudices of society.
“Redeeming the Rake” includes delicious elements of romance, espionage, danger, and faith that is oh-so satisfying! I’ve read all three books in this series and enjoyed them all, but I must admit, this final one is my fav! They each work well as a standalone.
Emily is a great character. I connected with her immediately and loved her protective heart. Jacob stole my heart. I don’t go for the bad-boy type, never have, but this so-called-bad-boy holds a lot more than meets the eye. There are some other notable characters who could’ve easily stolen the show.
If you enjoy wonderfully written Christian stories that reveal remarkable character growth and faith, you just found a great one (and series, for that matter.) I just love a love-fueled, faith-filled redemption story!

I enjoyed this book so MUCH!! It was beautifully written. I enjoyed the journey that both main characters experienced. I loved the faith elements! I was reading and saying amen a lot 😂
It even encouraged me in my own walk with God 💕
This is a new to me author and I’m very much excited to read more books by her.
What a delightful read from the very first page! Lord Warren comes to Sandalwood from London and the ton to help his aunt restore the estate to its original glory and finds the charming Vicars daughter, Emily artistic and charming. He commissions her to paint his portrait and she finds it difficult to admit her attraction to the Duke. He’s also found his son who he’s searched for for five years in the Vicars home being with Emily. There are so many roadblocks for those two to be together including a female villain who kidnaps his Aunt and son. You won’t want to put this entertaining book down.
A delightful story of overcoming your reputation and becoming a better person, finding faith and applying forgiveness to yourself to be able to move forward in life. I loved when Lord Jacob Warren and the vicar's daughter, Emily Thomason, first meet! Lord Jacob has always been a charming rake but even he can't get out of the current situation he is! Emily's quick thinking saves the day! Jacob is tired of the women he is usually surrounded by, and he quickly sees that Amily is different but she's a vicar's daughter and Emily wants nothing more than to paint and she's very good at it! There is danger, intrigue from highwaymen assaulting the wealthy and Emily's friend, Phoebe, insistent flirting with Lord Jacob that tests every nerve! Lord Jacob just wants to find his son and when he does, how will he approach the family who adopted him? This book had so much to love about it! I so enjoyed seeing Jacob make changes in his life and Emily find her worth. Even though it's long, I couldn't put it down! The end came much too fast!
Comment: So, I am always up for a Lorri Dudley book. I know I can always count on her to deliver a great faith-filled story with depth, action and romance all together.

Tropes: Redemption, kind of unequal social status, and a little bit of forced proximity
Genre: Like I said, it is a Christian Fiction book and if I were to be more specific it is a Historical Christian Fiction book.
Likes: I always like the romance and the faith content in this book. And I have to say that I found it a little hard to read the book at the beginning because the romance took so long to actually sail..., but the redemption story definitely made up for it and made the book more interesting.
Dislikes: Like I said before, the romance took to long to sail because of certain reasons. Also, the fact that it has been a common occurrence nowadays that the ending of the books solves the problems in less than 20 pages... it just seems a little too fast for me. Maybe giving it more phases might make it even more interesting although I know that would make the book longer... but oh well..
Conclusion: Still, I thoroughly enjoy the book and can't wait to read more of her books.
Home Office agent, Lord Jacob Warren, has been tasked with stopping a band of highway robbers who are terrorizing the Cotswolds. Where they are operating is perfect for Jacob since it is in the vicinity of his aunt’s house and the son he has been trying to find for years. When Jacob first goes to the village to help his aunt with her home his reputation of being a rake has preceded him. His banter and comments do not impress Vicar Thompson’s adopted daughter, Emily. How does a man leave the past behind and move forward?
Emily’s world has been rocked when she learns the identity of her parents, and she has a difficult time in knowing that she is not like them in regards to their behavior. There is a bit of a twist when Jacob has to remind her (and himself) that things of the past do not define who you are and who you can become.
I loved how the story progresses. Jacob truly repents from his rakish ways, but he must prove to Emily that he is no longer the man he had been. Author Lorri Dudley did an excellent job in showing Jacob’s past, present, and future when all four women whom were a part of his life are all together at a social event. I would not have wanted to be him at that gathering!
Read for: Near death rescue Painting Danger Christian Strong faith element Second chances Redemption Plot twist
“Love is about relationship, knowing each other deeply, our hopes, dreams, fears, and mistakes.”
While this is the third book in the Agents of Espionage, it can be read as a standalone. I recommend reading this if you like an inspirational story filled with faith, danger, and romance.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through the author and Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I enjoyed this historical fiction novel, Redeeming the Rake by Lorri Dudley. With a good girl falls for the bad guy trope, we see lots of action, intrigue, many faith nuggets, and much character growth in several different characters. Adoption, trying to penalize oneself for mistakes made, rejection, forgiveness for others and oneself are all themes. Although, the biggest theme is that God loves all people He has made and is willing to have even the worst turn to him in repentance and receive forgiveness.
Reading the author notes is always enlightening. It is interesting to learn that part of the story is based on historical legend and rumor.
Some great twists are involved in the story.
My fave secondary character is the vicar. He is so unassuming, yet he appears in the story at critical times to give wise, godly advise.
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I also bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
“We all have worth. Do you know how I know?” Christian shook his head. “Because Jesus paid a high price for us.” “On the cross?” “Indeed.” Emily slid her fingers down his arms and squeezed Christian’s hands. “You and I are precious to God.”
“Once you’ve tasted purpose, you won’t be satisfied with merely living.”
“You’re a child of God. He created ye special, and God doesn’t make mistakes.”
“Welcome to the upside-down world of Jesus, where the meek inherit the earth and the poor in spirit are the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Where we forgive those who have wronged us, and where whatever you do for the least of these you do for God.”
“Our sins don’t have to define us. It speaks to a person’s character when they genuinely repent.”
A beautiful story that captures how two people find how much God loves them. I liked how the author portrays Emily as a caring person. Her past has caused her to be shunned by some but she trusts God to give her direction in life. Her heart is pure and is always watching out for her family. I especially liked how she gave grace to a friend that continues to betray her with rumors. Her gift as an artist gives her hope for a future as people seek her talent.
Jacob is a man who finds himself as someone who can never be forgiven. He holds this feeling of not being worthy . He seeks to find a son he has discovered he had. This part of the story is sweet because we see a layer of bitterness peel away from his heart. All his life he has wanted to be thought of as a gentleman but his reputation says different. When he begins to let his guard down, he finds that he is hungry to know God. I loved watching this man change from an uncaring and bitter man to a man who seeks forgiveness.
To me the best part of the story is seeing how redemption works through several characters. Not only do they find grace but God who loves them unconditionally. There is a mystery in the story which led me to read faster. The secrets that people have kept will cause harm to others. I believe this is one of the best stories I’ve read that illustrates how God changes hearts, give freedom to those who carry guilt and show how people from different backgrounds can find happiness together if they trust God,
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
What I think you should know: Redeeming the Rake, a Christian Historical Fiction by Lorri Dudley is the Third book in the Agents of Espionage Series. Set in 1818 this book follows Lord Jacob Warren, an agent for the home office. This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend the previous books in the series.
What you might need to know: This books cover several sensitive topics including: Abuse, both physical and mental Pregnancy out of wedlock Adoption
What you might need to know Emily Thompson, a vicar's daughter has been raised to be a woman of virtue; she is also spunky and a talented artist. I really enjoyed getting to know her and her passion throughout the book. Jacob was a mystery that was nice to see unfold. It was really nice how there was more than one mystery threaded throughout the book, it kept me engaged in the story and the characters. I really enjoyed how the author handled sensitive subjects in a way that still kept the book a clean Christian based read. “Then why are you still trying to climb on the cross and pay for your sins..” WOW what a powerful reminder to all believers! I also love how the author says “Sin Separates us from God, but Jesus offers us a clean slate.” This was a wonderful read, I look forward to more from this author!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Redeeming the Rake, by Lorri Dudley is the third book in the Agents of Espionage series. While this is part of a series, this is also a nice stand alone story. This is a story that is well written and easy to read. I enjoyed getting lost in this story and imagining everything that was happening. The story focuses on Lord Jacob as he arrives to help restore his aunt's home to it's former glory. Upon arriving to the area he meets Emily, the daughter of the local vicar. I enjoyed reading the story as it points out different aspects of living during the regency period. Lord Jacob's aunt had a troubled marriage and became a recluse because of it. When the truth of Emily's birth comes out, her childhood friends is discouraged from having anything to do with her.
I enjoyed reading this story and seeing how the characters grow and change through the story. I enjoyed the change that comes over Jacob's aunt as he restores the home and invites others in. I enjoy the way Jacob changes from the man he use to be, to a man of truth and honesty. I especially enjoyed reading of the painting process Emily went through with the portrait. I enjoyed reading of the vicar's family as well. This story contain suspense and mystery as well as the theme of having faith and forgiveness.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, t his is my honest review.
What a fun, action packed, and romantic read this was with plenty of surprises and secrets. The rake, Lord Jacob Edward Warren, is a secret agent for his government. He is good at his job, but he is also doing it for personal reasons. He is the third son and has always been a bit mischievous, so he doesn't mind his reputation of being rake, even though some of that is fabricated, till now.
Enter by shooting an arrow to save his life comes the vicar's daughter Emily Thompson. She is lovely and kind and a woman like her is just what Jacob didn't know he wanted. Now he has to convince her without giving away his secrets. Emily, though, has a few secrets herself.
I have been really enjoying this series, all the books are just so captivating and wonderful to get lost in. Can Emily and Jacob let down their guard and start a life together? That is the question, if they can survive all that is going on around them and let redemption take hold of them both.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.
redeeming the rake, by Lorri Dudley, is a gallop of a story about survival of the heart and forgiveness. It’s a delightful, fast paced page turner that’ll leave you surprised, uplifted and realizing your self-worth.
Miss Emily Thompson, daughter of a country vicar, an intuitive, witty, talented painter is at the forefront of this high stakes’ masterpiece. Trying to save her reputation knowing oil and water don’t mix. Could she extend grace to herself as she does to others.
Lord Jacob Warren, son of a Duke is a charming, colorful character with a reckless reputation, who women are always trying to rope into marriage. Jacob gets himself into a difficult situation and is sent to a simple little town, to help his elderly aunt restore her dilapidated estate, in hopes that time will dissipate the nasty gossip going on around London.
Loved the frivolity, lavish parties, ruined reputations, jealousy, betrayals, undercover assignments, high stakes gambling and found purposes. So beautifully written and incredible visual imagery. I couldn’t put the book down.
Redeeming the Rake by Lorri Dudley is a Christian Historical Romance. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Agent Lord Jacob Edward Warren plays the part of a rake in order to cover up his work as an agent for the Home Office. Yet, he also carries other secrets as well. He creates a situation where his brother has to send him exactly where he needs to be.
Emily Thompson, a vicar’s daughter, puts her family first – even when it means setting aside her aspirations to join the Royal Art Academy. When a chance encounter connects the paths of the two, Lord Jacob Warren finds himself learning truths about God and about redemption.
With highwaymen, secrets, and more, this book will keep you reading. I absolutely loved the twists and turns the author took me on while reading. The ending provides the perfect conclusion to the story.
So, if you are looking for a Christian Historical Romance, check out Redeeming the Rake by Lorri Dudley.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
A great regency romance with secrets and undercover work to make it intriguing. This is book three in The Agents of Espionage Series but I was able to read it as a standalone. I throughly enjoyed the characters as I found them witty and interesting. I loved how Emily learned her self worth even though her supposed best friend treated her as less than. She is a nurturing and caring person who is also a talented artist and a marksman with a bow an arrow. Jacob grew as a person and in his faith and proves himself as worthwhile person to family and others after having a past that was unsavory. I loved how caring he was to his aunt, Lady Athol. Lots of guessing to who the highwaymen are keeps you turning pages with several surprises to uncover. I was throughly engrossed from beginning to end and recommend picking up a copy and settling in for an entertaining story of redemption. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
You start the novel thinking it’s simply a romance novel. But it’s so much more! Be ready to step into a land of intrigue and spies. But also be ready to go into an amazing historical fiction romance novel.
This was such a fun Regency romance. You’ve got your classic vicar’s daughter and your rogue bad guy. Except our vicar’s daughter isn’t quite normal because she wields a bow and arrow. And the classic rogue is on a mission and not what he seems.
Lots of twists and turns in this novel. I could not put it down. Just when I’d think I had it all figured out something else would pop up. Emily is a wonderful character and I’d love to see her again in another novel.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I love this author's style of writing and especially her beautiful inclusion of God's saving Grace and the Love of Jesus. I have read several of her novels and this one is one of my favorites! > This story was well written and flowed smoothly. The mystery of the highway robberies was a mystery - up till the very end... I didn't know who exactly was doing what till it was revealed! > An intriguing, well thought out plot with excellent and well written characters! > Plenty of drama and suspense! > Several humorous moments and witty dialogue that made me laugh. > Sweet clean romance with attraction and chemistry I loved the main theme running through this story... Our value only comes from God - not from any reputation - good or bad - that we achieve in anyone else's eyes. God loves us unfailingly, and forgives the repentant sinner. We are saved by His Grace alone. Not by anything that we can do on our own, or by any achievement. He redeems us because of His great love for us! This was a beautiful story - and I highly recommend it!! 💜 💜
Christian Historical Romance has become one of my favorite Genres to read. Redeeming the Rake by Lorri Dudley is Book 3 in the Agents of Espionage Series. I have been enjoying this series and have been anxiously awaiting Book 3.
WOW, this 3rd book is probably my favorite in this series. The main characters in this book are Emily Thompson and Lord Jacob Warren . Emily meets Lord Jacob when she saves Lord Jacob from danger . He is quite smitten by her charm and help. Emily and Jacob come from 2 different "classes" of Royalty but they quickly find themselves in a relationship. There is danger amongst them and they must come together to survive the danger. I really LOVE how they rely on faith to help them throughout the book and I saw each had personal growth. The Twists and Turn in this book really kept me focused on finishing the book! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Romance. FANTASTIC BOOK!!
Redeeming the Rake by Lorri Dudley was such a good read. I had to keep reading and turning those pages because I had to know.Who the robbers were and how it would all come out.I am happy to report it ended the way that I wanted it to but it has a sad ending as well. It is a long read, but I recommend it anyway. This is book 3 of the series but I think readers would enjoy it without reading the other two but I'm glad that I read the entire series like always. I would read another book with these characters. This book deals with past sins of these characters and how God can forgive us if we turn to him. , This book is based on a past character in history. I think all readers that like a book with a little scandal, a little romance and a little mystery would like this book.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit , and these opinions are my own.
Redeeming the Rake, Agents of Espionage Book 3 by Lorri Dudley would have seemed as if Agent Lord Jacob Edward Warren’s trip to the country would be a relaxed, comfortable read. However, it was one secret after another, one dangerous event after another and drama that would have made thee London crowd’s heads spin. It was quite the read.
I especially liked how within each situation that was uncontrollable, God was still in control. The references to Bible verses and the timely advice given were right on target. All the danger, suspense, God’s grace and personal growth of the characters were perfectly woven together. So I had decided how the romance would play out between Jacob and Emily but there was another big surprise with two others. A wonderful read.
I love this author and her stories. I like how she incorporates faith into a good story. I liked how in this story, there are a lot of secrets and I liked how all of them got revealed and how people dealt with the knowledge. I thought the story was engaging from the first page and I really liked the characters. I liked seeing the characters grow through the story and I loved seeing Emily and Jacob fall in love even though they are from different classes. I also liked the bit of adventure in this story and how it kept you guessing until the surprise twist.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
This entire series is incredible. The plot is full of twists and turns, the characters are very relatable, the story line just captures you. However, in Dudley’s true style it is also unapologetically gospel-centered, and God is given stage as the main character of the story. The never-ending, redeeming love of Heavenly Father, comforts souls and washes over past sins. The world is full of brokenness, but He offers his salvation freely. And the novel is truly a great chance to follow God as the characters learn of their worth and value and his plan for them.
Plus , a sweet and beautiful love story set in regency is just a must to read
I really enjoyed this story. Jacob has a reputation that’s only partially true. So, when he meets Emily, she already has an idea of the kind of man he is. It was surprising to find out that her brother is Jacob’s son. Turns out Emily and Christian are both adopted. It doesn’t take long for Jacob to edge his way into Christian’s life. Emily and her family can see that the reputation they’ve heard about isn’t quite who he is. Unfortunately, Emily’s “closest” friend has set her sights on Jacob and becomes rather nasty as she learns over time that Emily and Jacob seem to have a growing friendship if not more. I really liked Emily as well as Jacob. I also loved how Emily’s parents warmed up to Jacob even knowing they could lose Christian. Emily definitely gave Jacob a run for his money!
Emily is a vicars daughter leading a quiet life mindful of keeping a spotless reputation. She has a dream of attending the Royal Art Academy but has set that dream aside. A walk in the woods with a bow and arrow dramatically changes the direction of her life. With an accurate shot she saves Agent Lord Jacob Edward Warren’s life. Twists and turns keep you turning the pages. Lori does a great job of bringing her characters to life and you feel a part of this great story from the very first page. I am looking forward to reading the next novel in this series. R. Fody August 17, 2024
Redeeming the Rake begins with the Costwold village vicar's adopted daughter, Emily Thompson, saving Lord Jacob Warren's life with her bow and arrow! Then she realizes the young adopted brother and Lord Warren look alike! As Emily gets to know the notorious man, she wonders if he is really the rake people claim. I enjoyed this book very much and recommend it to others. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion,
