This 31 day devotional is delightful. Incorporating both a scripture reading and reflective thought, Roper encourages the reader to examine topics of life that are common and yet not often approached with such tenderness that is rooted in biblical truth to reveal how righteous and good God's heart is towards his people.

I really appreciate the writing and content of everything I've ever read by David Roper. I'm not a fisherman or even much of an outdoorsman like Roper, but I appreciate these aspects of his writing and his many profound quotes and insights. This is a great devotional.

Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I love Roper's devotionals. They are witty, touching, and accessible. Although he claims that this one is written as a "men's" devotional, I did not find it to be so limited. It's lovely and one of his best.

I must admit that I’ve never read a book like this before. It is a healthy mix of poetry, quotes and notes. It is so full of truth in the sense that it exposes the inner struggles of a person who strives to please God. But it doesn’t stop there. It goes ahead to explain what God hopes to achieve with us by letting us go through these trials.

This book first begins by letting us know that unless we shift our focus from the world and willingly withdraw our hearts and spirits into the quiet in which God speaks, not much can be accomplished in the workings of God in our lives. It is in this quiet that our strength and confidence are built in God. And the more we remain in the quiet, the more we realize just how much we don’t need the principles of the world.

This book in the end, closes with a talk of wisdom that is most reassuring and consoling.
I must state clearly, that unless you have a heart for God, or to seek the truth and discover Him, you may find some parts of it confusing or even unacceptable. This book is loaded with so much truth just as God would want it, I'm sure. It takes you through an amazing journey that helps you understand God’s priceless treasures that He has in store for each and every one of us, in whatever calling, and in whatever level of your spiritual growth.

However, there was a part where David mentioned that he would tell himself after a time away to be quiet, to expect the worst. I find it hard to reconcile that with positive thinking. Perhaps he has an explanation for this that he didn’t mention in the book. I don’t know.

I highly recommend that the Scripture placed at the beginning of each chapter be read before the notes themselves, as this book is simply an exposé of what the Bible is already saying.

I found this book most helpful personally, and absolutely fulfilling. I’m glad I read it.

This is by far my favorite David Roper book so far. I appreciate how time has tempered this man's wisdom.
