This collaboration was unique in the way that we saw the house from its first occupants and watched its progression throughout the years. The highs, lows, and everything in between. The stories began being sweet, and loving with some heartbreak and heartache, to somewhat strange, dark, and menacing. These ladies did their thing, bringing it all together. I would love to get a conclusion on These Walls Have Ears, as that damn Ja’Michael did LaKeisha dirty. 🤬
Five short stories about a home in Detroit, this project could’ve gone either way. If you’ve never been to the west side of the city, their stories may resonate with you somewhat, but knowing the city’s rich architectural history along with the mindset of the older residents, I could almost picture Mr Wallace sitting on that porch watching over the comings and goings of his neighborhood. And I believe everything Hazel said about his wife.
Tanisha almost gave me a heart attack with that ending. Shout out to Ms Hazel for clearing that up. 🤣
Houses that talk always catch my interest. These short stories got to the drama quickly which I appreciated. Learning about the new families held my interest. My favorite occupants: Derrick & Doris and Prophet. The most annoying couple because they made me want to scream: Ja’Michael and his woman who Hazel Woodbine described perfectly. I only wished the ‘These Walls Have Ears’ had been completed.
So no really, What The Hell Happened To Lakeisha?!! To be continued where? I was on lawyer patrol for her. First of all she was at the hotel, she received a call at the hotel room, she took an Uber & what happened to the guy in the wall. All her accounts will not add up to the time of death. I object! Nope I need more to that story. I can get her off and never been to law school lol.
I got this book during the BRAE event and I loved the stories. I was on in a slight reading slump so I decided to give In This House a try and I’m glad I did. Each story was different yet they all tied back to the House. Some of the authors I’m familiar with but a couple are new to me authors. I will be reading others books from the new to me authors. Overall excellent read.
Derrick and Dorie, I just don’t know what to say. He was everything Dorie needed, she was the apple of his eye.
Major and Evie were so cute… when Evie said the food tasted like baked dookie, I bout died and went to heaven!
Chiiiile the fact that Ja’Michael and what’s her face (Lakesha) did the nasty after calling each other funky from a long day’s work sent me! Lakesha was a lot.
When Prophet said observe twice as much as you talk, I knew he was gonna be bae! “Jesus came in the form of a mangy dog!” I knew he was bae! Yah was too ignorant for me. Streets/Wallace have to be my boy. All I know is, Yah… glad that happened. And Hazel’s excitement to be a Trap gave me life!
Now the Butterfly Effect had me tripped out at first but that’s all imma say about that!
Talk about an out of the box idea. Take six authors, their respective short stories, intertwine stories to make one interesting book. I enjoyed this book because it has it all. Love, betrayal, suspense and characters you can love and hate.
I give In This House: Five Families, Five Stories, and The Secrets A House Holds 4 stars.
In this House was an anthology with 5 different authors from very different walks of life. Although the stories were different they came together seamlessly. I like the fact the house had a voice and I just wished the commentary was a little more exciting. If you're looking for a good read grab "In This House". It will definitely have you thinking about what just happened.
Who knew a story about a house could be this riddled with great stories. If these walls could talk became a reality in this story and I was truly here for it. I enjoyed the stories of the people living in this house. It was captivating as a reader and the progression of the stories made for true entertainment. The collaboration of authors were fire and I look forward to reading more from them. .
As the story develops so does the house narrator. I would have loved to see a little more detail and description from this narrative. Overall, this was a great read from many authors that enjoy reading. Collectively they were phenomenal! 4.5 ⭐️
This anthology is so unique. A book about a house? With multiple story lines? Definitely a must read. Each of these stories, although different in genre, fused together to give us a great novel.
Tam Telling Tales 💅🏾💅🏾💅🏾💅🏾💅🏾 EyeCU Reading Approved
I was excited about this read, but it just kind of fell flat to me. It was just okay 🤷🏾♀️
In this read you get the stories 5 families that all lived in this same house over the years.
First up is Derrick and Dorie’s story. I loved that they lived on each other the way they did. They were good until they weren’t, but they chose to fight for each other anyway.
In this story I feel like the time line could have transitioned better. They went from young to old and dying within two chapters. The story could have been better developed.
Second you meet Evie and Major who got the house for free because they were related to the previous family. Their story was sad, but again under developed. Most of the story centered around their first child, and then the next thing you know they had a second child and then they were all gone. No build up. No transition.
In the third story you meet JaMichael and Lakeisha who decided to flip the house to make a profit. They were good until they got inside. I actually liked this one. JaMichael played in that girl face.
In story 4 you meet Prophet and Yah, my trap boys. Yah was funny 😂. I was shocked at the turn this story took in a good way.
Lastly we finally get our ghost story. It was good, but I wish it was drawn out a little more.
The entire book was 178 pages. With this many authors they definitely had room to develop these stories more and gave a higher page count. The font style even switched from author to author which shows that they didn’t even care to at the very least make sure everything was formatted. It was like everybody had a book report, turned in their part, and one person copied and pasted it all together.
I loved that the house had her own voice. She was hilarious.
Overall it was an okay read. It just felt like all of the stories were rushed. I got through it 🤷🏾♀️.
This was a mysterious tale... Totally unexpected occurrances happened. Once the original homeowners had passed away, their spirits remained lurking inside the place. Some of the new residents, like the niece, were guided and protected by spirits. Other people moved in and were haunted by their experiences. These spirits/ghosts were protective of the home and their neighborhood also using revenge as a tool - pergatory was the final destination.
Several writers weaved together their version of "In This House." Each story seamlessly flowed together in this 📖. In fact, the collaboration introduced a few new authors to explore.
In this house is an awesome collaboration. Most of the authors I haven't read before, but I can say the stories flowed from start to finish. The connection from one story to the next felt as though one author wrote the book.
This book refreshing ad I don't normally dive into such books, but it's always good to open your mind to different genres and read new authors!
This was definitely an interesting read. It wasn't at all what I was expecting. The anthology started out light with some life tragedies and ended with an eerie darkness. I'm rounding up to a 4 star, but I feel like it is a 3.75 only because I felt like two of the stories ended in a rush. One story was left on a cliffhanger and now I'm intrigued as to whether there is a part two floating around somewhere.
Being from Detroit, this book had me at the first line “what up doe”! I need to find out what neighborhood this house is in, I hope it’s not near me LOL. I loved how all the stories were connected and came together at the end. My two favorites were These Walls Have Ears and Prophetic Visions. I also loved the interludes by Hazel Woodbine, especially that tidbit of information she gave at the end of Built On Love.
I am not usually fond of anthologies but I took a chance on this one and I'm glad I did. Each story was separate yet it was also related. I won't tell you how but I liked the twists that happen In This House. Some moments left me with my mouth wide open while others made me laugh and smile. Bravo to these authors. I definitely plan to read more of their work.
All of these authors had great stories but my favorite was the prospective of the house. Great job ladies! It makes you really wonder about the staying if these walls could talk.
This was the most intriguing story told through the eyes of a house. Different people, different life situations and even through different structures of the home, there were so many stories to tell.
I was drawn to this book originally because it has a story by Kaylynn Hunt. I like that all stories come together.Even though they were writtten by 5 different people. There was a moment where I had to turn on my lights 🤣🤣because I was alone and scared. This was a good read. Don’t slip on it.
This book was so surreal if I'm n Detroit I'm voiding that block I'm just keeping it real I truly loved all the stories n the authors really put their work in all the stories just keep them coming cause I enjoy ready.
