I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

THIS. WAS. A. MAGICAL. READ. I can't believe this is already over. I loved the world. I loved the creatures and characters. I loved the dual-POV. I LOVED the magic. And I loved the dilemma. Everything about this book was interesting and kept you hooked from the very start. Especially the fact that people are creating magical apps which takes a piece of your soul. That concept was so intriguing, we definitely should learn more about it in future books!

He was whole. He was one with himself. One with the earth. One with the world. Until it began to wither.

Moving on to the characters. THEY WERE SO WELL WRITTEN! Especially loved how Molly was portrayed, as a follower, and how she broke free from her "role". Namu grumpiness could be felt through the screen (but softened for Molly?). The chemistry and tension between them was visible. Other than them, Kren and Ova and Lily are also portrayed as strong side-characters, and the conflict between them enriched the plot. But this story wouldn't have been possible without TRENNLY AND THE SPIRIT SPITES 🤪. Oh yeah, and the mysterious door...

Something was holding her under. Something was holding her still. She was drowning.

The plot. It had many plot twists and surprises for the readers on the way, which I didn't expect. THE FACT THAT IT TOOK SO LONG TO LET ME KNOW WHAT WAS BEHIND THAT DAMN DOOR WAS KILLING ME. Oh and loved the morally grey aspect of the mini-trolls and Namu destorying the world and more. I loved Adora Michael's writing style, made the read much more better.

Special mention to the dedication, wow, that was deep - "For those who died for all the wrong reasons, I wish I could have made the world better for you. For the children who were not protected when their differences showed, I wish I could have shown you just how much you bring bright colors to this dull world."

"He wanted this world destroyed, and he wanted to watch it burn."

Overall, this is a magical read, perfect for all the fantasy readers out there. I personally love it - it was a 4.5 star read rounded to 5! Thank you Adora Michaels for the ARC, I thouroughly enjoyed the book! Looking forward for Book 2...

Two lost souls, magic and a whole lot of problems.

Lockdrest is probably one of the most modern books I have read, in many ways.
I found it interesting how Adora Michaels has intertwined the old magic we all know and love with the technology of today.

Molly and Namu are different yet so similar and I enjoyed reading the chapters as they bounced from one point of view to the other.

There is a character in this book called Lily who is referred to as they/them. I have never read a book where with this in before, so at times I got confused and thought there where extra characters in a scene when it was only the one being referred to. It was definitely a first.

Each character throughout the book is very unique and you can one hundred percent tell their personalities apart.

The overall story line was enjoyable. Molly is a lost soul in need of protection and Namu is a damaged soul on a mission to destroy evil. Their paths cross and between them both, the teachers and students of Lockdrest, they face a shocking turn of events.

Lockdrest is a Young Adult Dark Fantasy full of all sorts of creatures and magic.

I received this novel for free from the author I'm exchange for an honest review.

This book was addicting and had me hooked from the start. I loved the main character Molly and the other characters as well. I loved how you added Lily a LGBTQ character to the story.

“The steam from the liquid rose to her cheek, warming her face until she felt it turning damp.”

I loved the magical elements you added that made the story more interesting, especially the door was a creative idea. I have never seen an element like this in any book I have read so far. An original idea. I loved reading the Harry Potter book and as this was a magical world too I really enjoyed reading this book

"For those who died for all the wrong reasons, I wish I could have made the world better for you. For the children who were not protected when their differences showed, I wish I could have shown you just how much you bring bright colors to this dull world."

In short creatively and interestingly written, I would love to read the second book. Thanks a lot for the ARC Adora Michaels.

This read had you quickly entranced into this magick. It is a complex world/learning system - but it is explained very thoroughly and easy to catch on. The book is dual POV and I love that the two POV don’t actually have a ton of interaction until further in the book.

After reading the Author’s Note, you can see how much of Adora’s own experiences that she got to pour into her characters. You can see the love and dedication there.

This is my second Adora Michaels’ book and I am still impressed at her level of writing, especially being geared towards YA. Just the way she writes will bring in kids. She introduces today’s issues in a subtle way with guidance and lessons. Super happy for her!

In my opinion, the book is excellent for teenagers and young adults. I had the chance to find many life lessons in it like: working on ourselves to be better persons, to appreciate the value of new experiences, to be brave enough to face daily challenges. Plus, it made me feel a little nostalgic because I remembered all that time I've read magic books and felt like I was capable of make it.

I would deffinitely use this book with my middle and high school students.
