Chip Ingram is the teaching pastor and CEO of Living on the Edge, an international teaching and discipleship ministry. A pastor for over thirty years, Chip is the author of many books, including Culture Shock, The Real Heaven, The Real God, The Invisible War, and Love, Sex, and Lasting Relationships. Chip and his wife, Theresa, have four grown children and twelve grandchildren and live in California.

The teachings found in this one are timeless and ever-relevant. The teachings are drawn from Psalms, so perhaps that isn't a big surprise. The specific Psalms taught in Finding God When You Need Him Most are Psalm 73, Psalm 23, Psalm 139, Psalm 77, Psalm 46, Psalm 51, and Psalm 90. Each chapter is straight-forward and reader-friendly. I love how each chapter is organized. Some are organized by life lessons, others by steps, etc. These lessons are built around Scripture. I also found it helpful that each chapter concludes with study questions.

Mr. Ingram not only teaches through his own experiences, but then parallels his experiences with scriptures to show us how, no matter what we are going through, there is an answer in the Word. To know that God is always here and for us to look to the Word for proof and comfort in times of need, question, or doubt.

This is a finely written pastor book that is designed for Christians as well as those who are seeking God. Chip goes out of his way to write in a way that is highly accessible to the largest possible readership. He fills the book with personal stories that reveal a real person, with all of lives struggles. I greatly respect him for this. The book is filled with general truths taken from the book of Psalms, with additional pastoral advice. Thus, the book is not an intellectual one, nor does it intend to be. Chip implies that the Psalms are objectively always true, yet many find that this is not always the case. I would be one example of this, and realistically I did not expect to find a to-do book that would make God do my bidding. Rather, I chose to read this book at time that I would desperately like to hear from God. Ultimately the book was not directly helpful, as my issue was not covered in the book. On the other hand by dealing carefully with the issues seen in the book, God did get through to me to reveal more of what in my case was disappointment with God and a continuing lack of direction. So while, I still have not found what I am looking for (sorry U2), my disappointment has lessened.

The author Chip Ingram is a pastor, and he outlines God's message for people in various times of turmoil and trouble that one might encounter in his or her life. Th topics are when youget a raw deal, times of crisis, when you feel like a nobody going nowhere, depression, fearful, when you have blown it big time, and confusion.

Ingram generally uses a Psalm to explain how to meet God in these times, and what God's promises are for you when you are in these ways. A nice, insightful book on living the Christian life.

Pastor Chip Ingram uses personal stories of his own, as well as those of people he has encountered to talk to us about God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. He uses familiar psalms to bring home the message of salvation, repentance, hope, and faith, among other things. Solid Insights

Through Scripture and personal narratives, Chip Ingram helps the reader look at the places of pain and desperation with a clear expression of God's desire to lead us into greater wholeness. I found something to apply from every chapter. Some of the issues he addresses, especially the chapter on depression, take an honest, much-needed look at issues facing Christians today, and supply helpful direction.
