The stories are the usual cheesy horror fun, but what makes this final volume of collected TALES FROM THE CRYPT issues so interesting are the editorials mapping the rise of anti-comics sentiment, particularly against crime and horror comics, which were blamed for juvenile delinquency.
Sadly, in the final issue, there's an angry, exhausted editorial about how the forces of censorship won and EC's horror and crime comics would be discontinued. Ironically, it happened right when EC was about to launch a fourth horror comic, THE CRYPT OF TERROR (notably, the original name of their most successful horror title TALES FROM THE CRYPT).
It should be noted by anyone today who thinks violent video games or music lyrics cause crime that once these comics were discontinued, juvenile delinquency did not go away. In fact, crime is still with us today, even if these wonderful comics are not.
