A short and spicy novella filled with heart! In The Catch, we meet Boone and Lucinda, two people who haven't seen each other since they were younger, but happen to find each other again later in life. One kiss leads to so much more and changes their lives in a whirlwind of romance, launching us into what is only the beginning of these characters love story. I’m intrigued and want to go listen to the rest of the series now!
Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden knocked this narration out of the park and made me feel like I traveled back in time with these characters. These two are comfort voices for me and bring their characters to life in such a way that it feels like the audio is visually playing out in my mind. This was such a fun listen and the shower scene…iykyk 😏😅 there were lots of sweet, laugh out loud, and swoon-worthy moments woven throughout this little novella and I enjoyed every second of it!
This fun, spicy and quick listen is origin story of Boone and Lucinda - the parents of Atticus, Brick and Bristol who each have their own book.
It’s preformed by Maxine and Joe so of course it has great narration. Maxine embraced the strong minded but shy Lucinda who can challenge Boone, the young base player on his way the big leagues. And Joe brings a fun loving head over heels Boone to life. They are set up by Boones parents who meet Lucinda in the stands of a game and the two i of f them have a whirlwind romance.
The Catch Swift Series Prequel By: Leslie Pike Narrated by: Joe Arden, Maxine Mitchell
It is great to be back in Leslie Pike’s Swift Family world for a lovely novella and a blast into the past for the start of Boone and Lucinda’s love story. Boone and Lucinda are the parents of the characters featured in the Swift Family series, starting with Atticus’ story in “The Curve”, followed by Brick’s story in “The Closer” and last but not least, Bristol’s story in “The Cannon”, each book is just as amazing as the other and are now available in a boxset for your listening or reading pleasure. Lucinda’s and Boone’s heartwarming story is full of steam and passion, and as a kid in the seventies, it was great to visit that era, where it all began for those two, with the designer jeans, Candies and Elvis in concert. This is the perfect book to enjoy in one sitting and a fabulous way to start the series or to revisit it. It is a wonderfully plotted story with the perfect balance of drama, charm, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Leslie Pike, thank you for another fabulously delightful and heartwarming story.
🎧📚🎧 Leslie Pike cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters to life. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell do an amazing job portraying the characters, giving each a voice that is fitting. I love how they own their roles, sounding believable and just as I imagine the characters to sound. These two are entertaining storytellers and they deliver a winning performance, one that knocks the story out of the park. Thanks for another fabulous listen.
This was a quick listen full of love and heart. This story is the origin to Leslie Pike’s Swift Family series and tells the story of Boone & Lucinda, parents to Atticus, Brick and Bristol (they each have their own story).
Maxine & Joe perform Lucinda and Boone and give you the sense you’ve travelled back to 1976 when a young artist catches the eye of a young baseball player who has hopes to make it to the majors. Maxine and Joe are able to capture a young couple on the cusp of forever with a youthful energy that is endearing.
I really enjoyed Maxine’s performance. She is a ball-busting woman who can give Boone a delicious challenge…that has them both falling fast. I love the confidence Maxine brings to this performance. Maxine is clear, and once again, proves why her voice can elevate any female or male character in dual narration. Joe delivers Boone with a sureness that feels genuine and confident. Boone falls first, and hard, and Joe manages to capture this endearment well.
I loved the travel back to time, and appreciate Joe & Maxine’s ability to make me feel I had also been transported along with them.

The Catch Swift # .5 By Leslie Pike Narrated by Maxine Mitchell, Joe Arden
This is a quick romance that is impossible not to make you smile. I know the entire time I was listening, that warm feeling kept me listening. It features the Swift parents of Brick, Bristol and Atticus and it gives a little insight to how the family dynamic started with that fired passion and love. Boone and Lucinda have that instant chemistry. But they are just so different. Boone is looking to move up from the minor leagues and enjoy the game he loves. Lucinda is a small town artist, enjoying her commissions. Can they truly find a balance? It's fun and flirty with witty banter. It even has Elvis! Romance in the 70's at it's best, Pike brings me back to a time that was simpler and about taking chances and true love. It's a great listen.
Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden bring this novella alive with a fantastic narration. Each pours out the best personality for their character and they pulled me into the story. I loved the emotions and enjoyed their performance.
The Catch by Leslie Pike is a delightful prequel to The Swift Series that delivers all the feels in a short, sweet, and spicy package. Set in the 1970s, this novella follows Boone, a driven minor league baseball player, and Lucinda, a free-spirited artist, as their paths collide with a little matchmaking help from Mama Swift. Sparks fly, and their chemistry is undeniable, making for a heartwarming and passionate story that’s as vibrant as its era.
If you’re a fan of sports romances—especially baseball—you’ll love how this novella sets the stage for Leslie Pike’s Swift series. It captures the magic of young love, with a touch of nostalgia and a whole lot of heat.
The dual narration by Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden brings this story to life with incredible authenticity. Their performances are stellar, drawing you into the romance and the 70s backdrop effortlessly. The connection between their voices makes Boone and Lucinda’s story even more impactful. They even make you understand how someone could miss an Elvis concert when love takes center stage!
For anyone seeking a quick listen packed with romance, passion, and a hint of retro charm, The Catch is an absolute must. It’s the perfect introduction to the Swift universe and will leave you eager for more!
Audio Review Duet Narration by Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden
The Catch was a cute and spicy novella. Boone a baseball player and Lucinda an artist, although opposites had an instant love connection. I loved how they knew of each other but not in the same circle in high school and how quickly they formed a solid friendship/relationship. Boone's mom was one of my favorite side characters, especially with how she went about getting Lucinda's number for Boone. Overall, this was a great quick listen that left me smiling.
Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden delivered a great performance and really were a great fit for these characters. They kept me in the story until the very end.
Short and smexy, this prequel novella gives us an insight into what’s to come in the series. This audiobook is narrated by Joe Arden as Boone and Maxine Mitchell as Lucinda in their early 20s in the 1970’s. The epilogue introducing the kids and their personalities is just the taster I needed for the upcoming books.
The Catch is the prequel novella for the Swift Family series. We find out how the parents (Boone and Lucinda) met, got together, and started to raise the entertaining Swift kids (Atticus, Brick, and Bristol). This steamy little gem is a lovely addition to the series and is beautifully narrated by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell.
You don't need to listen/read the other books to enjoy this super cute, hot short story of how the Swift boys parents met. I enjoyed this just wished there was more only because I enjoyed it.
I received a copy and listened to it through BookFunnel.
For a novella, this packed a lot of story about the history of Lucinda and Boone. What really impressed Boone was, Lucinda wasn’t aware of his popularity and really didn’t follow baseball. Their connection was instantly electric. Sparks were flying everywhere. I really enjoyed Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell telling their story. It was entertaining and an enjoyable listen.
I’ve never read or listened to this series before, but after this super quick listen, I just might have to!
I love how quick this was, but I wasn’t disappointed. I really enjoyed Boone and Lucinda’s love story. I also love a sports romance and this one hit. Also the spice was spicy!!!!
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell are pure perfection in every title they perform together and this was no exception.
Thank you BNA and Leslie Pike for the advanced listen!
I love a good novella, and this one captured me from the start. I loved diving right into the love story of Lucinda and Boone. It was sweet, steamy, and just a fun little novella. I'm a fan of insta-love when it's done right, and Leslie knocked it out of the park.
This was narrated by Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden. I loved the duet style for it. They always seem to be exactly on the same page as each other when they narrate together in this format, and I love that about the books they narrate together.
"The Catch” is such a sweet novella! It’s all about love, baseball and the surprises that come with new beginnings. Although it’s short, Boone and Lucinda’s story is super relatable and heartwarming.
Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden do an awesome job bringing these characters to life. If you need a quick, feel-good read, definitely check this one out! ⚾❤️
The Catch is the prequel to the Swift Family series. This is a novella about Lucinda and Boone’s love story. Lucinda is a college art student and Boone is a baseball player. Lucinda was in the stands drawing Boone. Boon’s parents decided to try and play matchmakers. This time they actually succeeded. I can’t wait to read the first of their family’s stories.
Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden did a fantastic job narrating this book.
*ALC review* This was my 1st story by Leslie Pike, and overall, it was a cute story. I had a bit of a hard time buying into Boone's instalove, but that may be due to the fact that this is my 1st venture into this world, and I have no backstory. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell once again kept me listening and wanting to get to the end, and it is definitely their amazing talent that kept me going.
Sometimes going outside of your genre is a good idea. I am not really a baseball fan and my least favorite trope is an unplanned pregnancy, but….. Leslie Pike has me INVESTED in these characters! Maybe it’s because of nostalgia, maybe because I needed a break from all the dark romance and sometimes you need a good reset. Either way, I want to know what’s next from this family.
I had the privilege of the ALC from Blue Nose Audio. Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden narrate this beautiful novella and of course, do a phenomenal job. Both are the GOAT. They capture these two characters with heart and professionalism.
