He set the rules of the engagement… she wants to break them!
Maid of honor Emily Applegate is on the warpath. Her best friend’s dream wedding venue has been cancelled at the last minute and now everything has been thrown into chaos. With guests arriving from all over the world, food being prepared and the flowers being arranged, Emily decides to take charge and save the big day! First stop, the thoughtless owner who cancelled - surely she can make him change his mind?
But Emily doesn’t expect Theo Berkey to be quite so attractive and irresistible…and distracting. Or to be blindsided with an offer impossible to refuse. The deal? Pretend to wear his engagement ring temporarily while his meddling mother is in town and Theo will reinstate her friend’s wedding. Easy enough!
With the wedding rescued, Emily learns being the bride-to-be is more fun than she anticipated, especially as she finds herself increasingly attracted to her fake fiancé. But when their charade is over Emily will just have to walk away...won't she?
Formerly a Video and Radio Producer, Christy now spends her time writing provocative, passionate, seductive romance. When she’s not writing, she can be found enjoying life with her husband and three children, walking for pleasure and researching other people’s deepest secrets and desires.
This is my second book by this author and I loved it! This is a fake dating no-strings-attached becomes love romantic comedy but reads mostly like a contemporary romance. I love that they both fall really hard for each other even though neither were looking for love. They have so much chemistry and he turns out to be quite a dreamy book boyfriend. Read her book About Last Night before reading this book.
If you’re a fan of swoon-worthy romances where the male falls hard and fast, Marry Me… Maybe is an absolute delight. This strangers-to-lovers romance takes readers on a steamy, heartfelt journey filled with unexpected connections, spicy moments, and all the feels.
For me the “he falls first” trope is perfect here, with the male’s devotion adding layers of sweetness to the story. Combined with the strangers-to-lovers dynamic, the book keeps you hooked as the characters navigate their initial awkwardness, fiery sparks, and eventual closeness.
The story opens with an irresistible meet-cute, setting the stage for a whirlwind romance between two strangers who, by fate or coincidence, find themselves tangled in a love story neither saw coming.
The slow burn of their growing relationship keeps you turning pages, and when the tension finally boils over, the payoff is sizzling. What makes Marry Me… Maybe seamless to me is the blend of spicy and emotional moments. The intimate scenes are not only steamy but also show their vulnerability.
If you’re looking for a romance novel that offers equal parts passion and emotional connection, Marry Me… Maybe will hit the mark. It’s a perfect escape into a world of love, vulnerability, and chemistry that practically leaps off the page.
I hadn’t realised this was previously published as “Bridesmaid with attitude” (a Mills and Boon romance) but I recognised it quickly as I read it. It was only written in 2014 but it seems curiously dated.
The premise was interesting but overall the story was rather pedestrian and predictable. I didn’t like Emily and her behaviour with Theo - trying to make him have sex with her was really icky. If the roles had been reversed I can just imagine the accusations that would be levelled against the hero. It’s interesting to see how attitudes have changed in just ten years. I found Emily’s belief that she was sexually irresistible - really off-putting.
A pleasant enough read, but as there wasn’t actually much comedy in it, I didn’t understand why iy was described as a romantic comedy.
I would have liked to see Theo and Francesca make up on the page.
I was pleased to find that Marry Me...Maybe? is a fun, light-hearted, delightful romance. Sometimes when I start a book by an author I am unfamiliar with, I wonder if the story will live up to the hype of the blurb. Theo and Emily's story absotively posolutely does...and then some. Their chemistry practically jumps off the page! *sizzle* And the tender moments demonstrate a depth of character for each that completely won me over. It doesn't hurt that the story begins with Emily showing up at Theo's on her motorcycle all decked out in her gear!!
2🌶️ Overall I liked the book and the plot, as I love the fake dating trope. I think the author could have written more into the mental health aspect of it, and shorten the chapters, but that’s a personal preference, and it ended quite suddenly. I liked the characters and think they complemented each other well💗 Love how they both found love when they weren’t looking for it.
‘Because I love you. I’m in love with you.’
‘I’m willing to risk anything if it means I get to have you, Emily Applegate. Because I love you too,’
1.5 ⭐️ What happend.. to the original plot of the movie?
This was the equivalent of a filler episode in a tv show, unnecessary and boring. The mmc is just rude as hell and the fmc spends mutiple chapters begging for the mmcs attention…? YUCKKKKK
Also where was her best friend in this whole story? What you bf gets married and suddenly she doesn’t have time for you anymore? I get having less time to spend with each other once one of the two gets married but this was very much giving her husband is her bff now. YUCKKKKK
Two unlikely mismatched people, who in the end, are not at all mismatched. Emily, damaged, gear for attention versus Theo, a private man of nobility but also damaged, together come up with an ingenious plan where both get something and of course things kinda backfire. I loved this story, the strength Emily had to funnel through. And of course Theo’s ability to realize his truth. An emotional story, with a lot of heart.
Too much sex. For fucks sake the girl is crying because her (suicidal) mother just died from a heart attack and you're fucking her? Actually leave. Feel so bad for the mother of Emily. And Theos mother for that matter. Theo has an aborted child, which she didn't know about, and all in general, the plot had too many twists and stuff
This was poor! I liked the idea and humour to start with and couldn’t wait to read how the story will unfold. However, it felt so rushed, so immature with so annoying main character that it was unbearable to read. At the end we still know very little about the main characters but we do know the sex is good. Ish. Not recommended.
Super long chapters, that could easily have been split into smaller chapters. Was easy to read and I liked the characters though the sex starved nature of Emily was a bit much. Would have been good to delve a bit more into the mental health space as this topic is so important and should be tackled more by writers. Overall an ok story.
Why was this so short? This is a trend I’m seeing of books under 200 pages and I’m not a fan. I want more story, more character development and depth, just more. This feels like it was rushed and not joyfully.
I thought the female character used sex as avoidance and she hopped into bed way too fast. The characters were too 1 dimensional for me. The anticipation and chemistry were lacking for me. I liked how she won over the mom, but I didn’t believe in their love story.
Almost didn't finish it, though the ending was really the only good part. A whole lota lust and dont-even-know-you sex with no real connection or romance until past 50% Wouldn't say it's a rom com as there's not a lot of comedy either.
3⭐️ What a whirlwind, not what I was expecting from the cover and description. Didn’t love the start but it became more enjoyable and showed more depth as you read on.
