Bookstore owner, Rosa Lake, is relieved that her divorce has been finalised. She hopes she’ll be able to get on with her life now and to put the pain and uncertainty of the past decade behind her. Primary school teacher, Henry Clay, has moved to the picturesque Cornish village to start his new job at the local school. After a change of career, he’s excited to embrace this fresh start. Henry is an avid reader and when he wanders into the bookstore one day, Rosa can’t wait to serve him. Their mutual love of reading sparks something between them and soon they’re aware that their friendship could turn into something more. But Rosa and Henry have secrets in their pasts, and they struggle to share them. Will they find a way to overcome their differences, or will they agree to go their separate ways as the autumn leaves begin to fall?
Rachel Griffiths is an author, wife, mother, Earl Grey tea drinker, gin enthusiast, dog walker and fan of the afternoon nap. She loves to read, write and spend time with her family.
I loved returning to the Cornish Garden Cafe and being introduced to new characters, this story is about Rosa and Henry who both had unhappy pasts. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is a lovely story. I love Rosa,Christopher and Henry very much. I feel like I was with them in the cafe, gardens and wherever they went .. A brilliant story by Rachel Grffiths.
A welcome return to the Cornish Garden Cafe and its wonderful characters. The food and drinks are served up with a smile and a dollop of kindness. The Book Nook was described so beautifully and I wished I could visit to browse the bookshelves.
I absolutely loved this book, as I have the 2 books in the series that I've read so far.
Set in a cafe in a small seaside village in Porthpenny, Cornwall; each book in the the series follows 2 people who move to the village to make a new start.
In this book, set around Autumn time, Rosa and Henry are the 2 people who the book follows.
Rosa moved to the village and set up a bookshop after losing her Aunt and breaking up with her husband. She's vowed never to have another relationship because of the hurt her ex put her through.
Henry, reinvented himself as a teacher after leaving his investment role, his girlfriend decided this wasn't for her and they split up. He moved to the village for a new start in the village primary school.
There are other characters who play a major part in Rosa and Henry's storyline, but I don't want to leave spoilers.
Suffice to say, if you like a romantic, feel good story, then this is the book, and series for you.
Whilst each book in this series is a standalone story, the books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.
Winter at the Cornish Garden Cafe is downloaded, ready for me to read.
This book in the series did not dissapoint and I now look forward to the next one Winter at the Scottish Garden Cafe. Each book in the series can be read standalone, different stories about different people but set in the same beautiful location in Cornwall. Beautifully written this heartwarming series will want you wanting more. I personally found this one emotional towards the end, but loved it. Excellent series fully recommend .
Another fabulous story. Loved reading about Rosa and Henry and their lives after moving to Cornwall. How they looked after Christopher who was so lonely after losing his wife. Such a heartwarming book and can't wait to read the next chapter.
A delightful story. This is a very uplifting and second chance for the characters that learn to overcome past relationships and began a new chapter with kindness, the true meaning of a loving relationship and their dreams. Enjoyed this book.
This is another enjoyable read by Rachel Griffiths. She is one of my favourite authors. Her stories are heart warming and with people you can connect with.
Review: 5/5 ⭐️ Autumn at the Cornish Garden Café – Rachel Griffiths
This book is everything I want in a cozy, feel-good autumn read! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with vivid descriptions of Cornwall that made me feel like I was there, sipping coffee and enjoying the garden views.
The characters are relatable and easy to root for, with just the right balance of romance, personal growth, and community spirit. The themes of second chances, healing, and finding your place in the world give the story emotional depth without making it heavy.
Rachel Griffiths’s writing is comforting, like a literary hug. Perfect for anyone who loves small-town settings, seasonal reads, and uplifting women’s fiction.
In summary: A heartwarming, cozy story with charm, romance, and a beautiful Cornish backdrop. A perfect autumn escape. 5/5.
