Mike Carlese, a lieutenant with the BPD and second in command of the Downeast SWAT team, has it all. A career he cherishes, a loving wife, and two wonderful children… Or so his colleagues and friends think. In reality, his wife walked out on him and the kids a year previous for a much younger guy, and Mike has been wallowing in self-doubt ever since. His ex-spouse’s parting shot? He was a failure as a husband, prioritizing his kids and his job over her. Which is why he’s never told his team that she left. The whole incident has left him mortified; a sour taste in his mouth over his failures. So what does it even matter if no one knows he’s single again? It’s not like he plans, or even dreams of finding another woman…until a feisty DEA agent enters his life and turns his well-ordered world upside-down.
Joelle Pikens, or Joe as she’s called, has been in Maine for months trying to uncover the players behind a fentanyl ring. While working her undercover DEA job as a server at the Local Moose—a dive bar on the outskirts of town—she overhears something nefarious that is completely outside her current job description, and she can’t ignore it. As much as her Chief of Operations has warned her not to get sidetracked—which she’s been known to do from time to time—Joe follows her instincts and looks into the plot against one Mike Carlese. What she finds is a man so intriguing, she’s ready to break cover to not only seek his help with her current assignment, but more importantly, to end her long, self-imposed dry spell.
Mike is the second in command on his SWAT team. The whole team thinks he has a happy family life, he has them all fooled. Joelle is undercover for the DEA in town to to find a fentanyl ring operating locally. While working her undercover job as a waitress she overhears a conversation plotting a murder. The victim? The very handsome and quite capable of taking car of himself Mike. She can't help but try to help. This is a great story with a wonderful group that always have each others backs. Every book just gets better, I love this series. 10+ Stars to the amazing author. Mike
No spoilers! But yes, LJ has done it AGAIN with a fantastic story for everyone’s favorite LT, Mike. While sadly there is no Duck of Justice in this one, (IYKYK!) it is an even better story where love is found in unlikely places with lots of humor, teenagers, murderous ex’s, snarky heroines, and, um, “colorful” language. Joe is one tough officer who holds her own with our favorite SWAT team members both in the field and while hanging out. Smart, pretty, fast thinker, tough, good with weapons and her wit! Joe if the perfect match for Mike. I don’t want to give too much away, but y’all have to read this one! 12/10 recommend.
I really enjoyed the newest addition to LJ Vickery's Downeast SWAT series, Mike. It's fun, flirty and lighthearted in addition to some tense moments of danger and suspense. There are also murder plots, drug dealers and a corrupt government offical. The ever popular FBI agent Cruz Livingston even makes an appearance. The main duo, Mile Carlese and Joelle Pikens are perfect for one another. You'll root for them start to finish.
After over hearing an unusual conversation while undercover, Joe/Ella decides to prevent an event from occurring while still protecting her undercover status... Mike hasn't told any of his fellow teammates that his wife left him. But due to circumstances, both Ella and Mike discover that everyone needs someone to protect their 6
This story is another great part of the Downeast Swat series. You'll definitely want reading time when you get. Love how the characters interact with each other and support each other. You’ll revisit some familiar faces. And the creative cuss words will have you laughing.❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Gotta love the Downeast SWAT Team. Especially Mike, who knew his waters ran deep. So many surprises happening in his story, good and bad. And Joe is just amazing, a kickass, smart and badass women. One who not only brings Mine down to his knee‘s.
Another great read. I love all the characters and the chemistry between the main people. These stories grab you from the first page and doesn't let go. I would definitely recommend reading this book. I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
