So one thing that's becoming incredibly obvious as this series progresses is that there's TOO MUCH GOING ON.

Most light novels/animes have one major story going on. If it's an isekai it's how the main guy has to defeat the demon lord maybe, if it's a slice of life maybe it's just about a guy opening a ramen shop. Either way, normally there's one main storyline going on in a light novel series. Sasaki and peeps doesn't have one, or two or three, but FOUR main storylines.

you have
1. Sasaki and peeps traveling to the fantasy world and dealing with politics
2. Them working with the psychics (a kind of men in black for people with powers)
3. The demon/angel war where girl who likes sasaki is teamed up with a demon and all the intrigue involved in that.
4. The magical girl situation. How there's magical girls just around and we don't know why.

This is one of the biggest flaws of this series. there's TOO MUCH GOING ON AT ONCE. We'll spend 30 pages with the group doing stuff in japan, then OOPS gotta go back to fantasy world, then spend another 50 pages there then OOPS gotta go back and deal with the demon war. It's way too fragmented and schizophrenic.

Not to mention, it isn't even like the same characters cross over. Whenever sasaki goes to the fantasy world he dumps every japanese character and we have to deal with B cast. and B cast is very very boring.

Weirdly enough, the worst parts of this book was when they were in the fantasy world. It's basically all political intrigue and i can't stand that stuff. Sasaki stands around chatting with people about politics and it makes me feel like i would rather eat a shoe then power through it. It's sad because the parts when he's in japan dealing with the psychics or magical girls are actually very interesting, but the fantasy world stuff just grinds the story to a HALT.

The stories with Futaraishizuka, Hoshizaki, and the other japanese character are actually INTERESTING. i actually care about these characters. i honestly couldn't give less of a crap about the power struggle for the throne in the fantasy world. i actually considered skipping those parts and only reading the japanese parts, but... i powered through it just so i knew what happened and finish the whole thing.

I think as the story progresses the less i like the concept of Peeps as well. He's too overpowered and basically makes most situations trivial. Sasaki is still a bit of a dull character but i feel like he, ironically would develop better without peeps. i know the series is called "Sasaki and Peeps" but i think if we removed peeps the series as a whole would be better.

However, they DID resolve the big issue in the fantasy world in this one so i'm HOPING it will involve less fantasy isekai stuff in the next volume since it seems to be dealing massively with aliens. Because MAN did the series get boring when we went to the other world and i..i just didn't care when they did.

overall, the volume was FINE. it was GOOD when it was in japan such as scenes with them dressing up as superheroes/supervillains, meeting the other magical girl, etc, and BAD when it was in the fantasy world.

one last thing i'll say is that as a light novel, there's illustrations spread out every now and then. like once ever 30 pages there will be a black and white picture, and from pages 110-200 there's 3 images and all three are TERRIBLE. one is sasaki shaking a dudes' hand, one is a guy sitting at a desk, and one is sasaki sitting with peeps where he's disguised. so for almost 100 pages all the images are just bad. and what's the thing connecting all of them? that's right. all in the fantasy world. Man...can we just like...drop the fantasy setting and keep sasaki in our dimension from now on? ah well.

4/5 for the parts that take place in japan
2/5 for the parts in the fantasy world

overall, 3 out of 5.
