"Aaria never thought that Keriggor’s ugly black seal would leave her forehead—or that she would ever escape from his cruel oppression. But when a mysterious King calls her into freedom, she must face the challenge of living a normal life. All too soon, past and present collide as the world around her descends into chaos. Will she find the courage to confront her dark past, rescue those she’s learned to love, and step into her ultimate destiny? A story of incredible bravery and the healing power of love, Spirit of the King shines light in the darkest places, and sets the captives free."
Amy Hay is a Holy Spirit-filled Christian who seeks to use Christian allegory as a tool to point the way to the truth of the Word of God and lead people to Christ.
She will always remain an independent author and is currently writing her fourth novel.
Analogies are a difficult area in which to write. A balance between the original and its reflection must be achieved if the story is to have the desired result. Sadly, this book failed to achieve that balance and often pounded on a particular point. In addition, the story was simplistic and this weakened it further. The story craft was adequate. I believe that if Ms. Hay studies other Christian anthologies and applies herself to improve her skill in story writing, she could gain the insight and skill that is lacking in this book.
If you like the book The Giver then you will like this book The Spirit of The King by Amy Hay. I felt the empowerment of Aaria as a young warrior as she goes from dark and evil forces to her acceptance that the King was the one true master of all mankind. I did have trouble visualizing the characters but not their quest for the one true path. Overall a good read.
