"A Promise To Leave” is a poignant memoir of facing trauma head on, with and without intention. The author opens her heart and her mind in both vulnerable and bold states as she shares with the reader how she navigated through many traumas including abandonment, divorce, multiple deaths and utter heart breaks.
As you read through this memoir, you will be on an emotional roller coaster ride. At times, you want to scream for her, and maybe at her, while crying with her. The other times though, your heart just can't help but to root for her in her awakening of living in the present and not dwelling in the past of her hurt. Kimberly marches boldly through everything that life throws at her, even though she is most assuredly unaware that that is what she is doing. She shows us that life is a slippery slope, that we are not promised tomorrow, that sorry even when you are unsure that you should be, is a path to healing that we all need. For all the worldly people, places and things that she lacked while walking through the tragedies of her life experience, the one person who remained true to her, held her hand, wrapped his loving arms around her when no one else would and gave her a confidence she wasn't aware she possessed, was Jesus Christ. Her faith in HIM, her anger towards HIM, her humility when HE scolded her and her great joy when she knew she was walking the path HE intended her to walk, is what enabled her to successfully overcome her own demons as well as help others to acknowledge and begin to overcome their own. So much healing takes place in the pages of this book and even more healing on the way, for this sweet soul.
She sums it all up and says it best with this line “If you keep sticking your hand to it, you're gonna keep delaying it. Or altogether alter it” page 494
This is a memoir that you will not regret reading, take her experiences and words to heart and go before our Lord and Saviour and your healing will be on its way.
“Her message is simple: Love your people now. While you can. While it matters”
