Newbie sorceress Cinthy Gold and her cousins Viv and Jasmine are The Three, a legendary coven said to be the most powerful since the beginning of sorcery, And they're in danger. The Dark One is an evil immortal with thousands of indentured servants called Goat's Eye. He's intent on destroying every sorcerer and sorceress, especially the Three, In fact, he's already dispatched an assassin. Sam Foster's orders are to kill the Three. With a past full of torment, heartbreak, and bad decisions, Sam's no amateur. He's been branded like cattle and forced to kill, and after a century he's accepted that he's probably destined for hell. Then he meets a girl. a girl he adores. The very girl his master wants dead. He can't let that happen. Gaining Cinthhy's love and trust, Sam finally has a reason to defy the tyrant.
I NEVER abandon books, so this is hard, but it just felt like a waste of time. The story is about 3 cousins who find out they are the most powerful sorceress in centuries and form a coven. I think the storyline has promise, but there is no depth. The girls find out they are sorceress within one night of moving in together, and they just accept it, like "ok." They have no questions for their mothers (who they find out also have powers or could have, I dunno), but they aren't curious in the slightest. They just decide to accept their powers literally overnight. It would make sense to ask why they were never told? What powers did they have? Why hadn't their mothers accepted their powers? Etc, etc, etc. Even when they find out a big bad is after them, no questions or concerns! Then they get ONE "training" from their aunt and they are good to go! When Sam comes along, he immediately decides he's interested in Cinthy, tells her, and voila! They are a couple. And when she learns he knows about sorcery and her family, is she curious how he knows? What exactly he knows? Nah, she just gets upset with him. Ooookay. Like I said before, there is no substance to the story and zero character development. Very disappointing.
