Alexei Leonov.
Anna Zaires fell in love with books at the age of five, when her grandmother taught her to read. She wrote her first story shortly thereafter. Since then, she has always lived partially in a fantasy world where the only limits were those of her imagination. Currently residing in Florida, Anna is happily married to Dima Zales (a science fiction and fantasy author) and closely collaborates with him on all their works.
After graduating from the University of Chicago with a degree in Economics, Anna spent eight years on Wall Street analyzing stocks and writing research reports. In 2013, she became a full-time author, pursuing her lifelong dream of writing romance novels.
Dima Zales is the love of her life and a huge inspiration in all aspects of her writing. Every book Anna writes is a product of their unique collaborative process.
In addition to reading and writing, Anna enjoys drinking tea (coconut oolong, anyone?), watching addictive TV shows, and discussing book ideas during long walks with her amazing husband.
She loves hearing from her readers, so please don't hesitate to contact her through her website or connect with her on Facebook, where she hangs out way too often. Also, please visit her husband and collaborator, Dima Zales, at www.dimazales.com and check out their fantasy & science fiction books.
So...not gonna lie, I had to go back and re-read book one before reading this as I had completely forgotten which series this stemmed from. And man, I'm glad I did. Because boy was I WRONG about which series I thought this was about. Which would have been a very confusing start for this one.
But I digress.
As I pretty much always say now when reading anything from this author at this point: I am a huge Anna Zaires fan and will read anything she writes.
And, as I said for book one of this series, I (shockingly) did not like this book's precursor series (my review for book one in that duet can be found HERE). But book one for this was a slam dunk for me, so I had high hopes for this installment.
That said, book two was a lot of the things I love I love about Anna Zaires' brand of romance... a ruthless alpha male lead who is completely and unhealthily obsessed with the heroine. Great chemistry.
However, Alina grated on my nerves a bit here for some reason. Which led to a few other petty niggles. But I boil that down to just being me.
Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this and cannot WAIT for book three. Especially after the bomb dropped at the end of this one.

5/5 ⭐️ I’ve been waiting for the release of this book for longer than a year! I FINALLY got to read it!!! After the cliffhanger of book one, I was so excited and it definitely delivered! I hope the next book doesn’t take as long to be released as this one did, because the cliffhanger of this book has left me wanting more ASAP!!! 😭
This is a dark erotic romance and Anna Zaires is known for writing some good erotic scenes and she did not disappoint at all 😮💨
Alexei wants to get Alina pregnant asap and their sex scenes were top notch 🤭. She’s been running away from him for years and he’s finally caught her.
There was some great sexual tension between them that I loved. The way he was rubbing sunblock all over her in such a sensual way 😮💨.
And when he was feeding her food after she fainted. That was so cute 🥺.
He was beyond OBSESSED with her. I just loved them together. He was not giving her a choice to even think about leaving him 🤭. His jealousy and possessiveness was so hot 🥵. He might be a controlling hero but he is also very loving, protective, and sweet at times ❤️. He just wants to give her everything she could ever want and make her happy, but Alina doesn’t want to end up like her parents did. She pushes him away constantly but she can’t deny that she is very attracted to him.
“You were like a comet streaking through the sky—so bright and rare you took my breath away." 🥺❤️
This was just such a fun time for me and I loved it so much! I cannot wait for the next book because wtf!!! I actually shed a tear reading the last few chapters. The story took a turn I was not expecting at all 🥺💔.
My only complaint is that this was way too short!! Only 224 pages 😭
Also, thank you to my dear friend Mireia for summarizing the first book in this series for me. I didn’t remember much about it but she was so helpful! Ilysm babe ❤️🫶🏻.
I was so engrossed in this book, and then, boom… it ended 😑😭 and the cliffy got me so emotional 😭.
This book opens up with Alexei in the past, 25 years ago, and the trauma he experienced when his mother died giving birth to his little sister. While his mom was going through labor pains, his dad was cheating on her 😑. He vows to be a better husband that his dad ever was, one who will slay any dragons standing in his/their way.
In the present, Alina’s dealing with the aftermath of being taken after all the bloodshed unfolded when she was hiding with her brother 😬. Alexei’s gonna take what’s his 😅. Nobody’s gonna stop him 🤷🏻♀️.
He’s gonna force her to marry him, like she was originally promised to be, and, of course, he wants a family with her. And that means only one thing…
👀👀👀 (you know what it means 😉).
Now if only Alina stopped pretending to not want him, their lives would be so much easier 🤷🏻♀️
🙃🙃🙃
What I liked/loved: possible spoilers —Alexei not giving any Fs 💅. Look. I love me a determined hero, and Alexei ain’t pulling no punches 👏🏻. He’s not afraid of getting his hands dirty 💁🏻♀️. He’s alpha and domineering in EVERY aspect 👀. As long as he gets his woman, he’ll be happy 🤷🏻♀️
—the tension 😮💨. Oh LAWD 🔥 have mercy on my kindle 👀. These two want each other so much, but Alina keeps fighting it 😅. That’s okay, because Alexei likes her struggling 🥵. Their kisses alone as explosive 😮💨. I luuuuurve how their bodies respond to each other
—dubcon ish (could be noncon to some people) 🔥. She can try to say no, but it doesn’t matter 😈😅
—the 🔥. Ufffff 🥵😮💨. It’s 💦so😅good 😉. She can pretend all she wants, because he knows better 💁🏻♀️. He gets down on his knees and shows her just how much she wants it 😉.
—how much focus is on their relationship ❤️. Because they’re stranded on the yacht, they literally can’t escape each other 🙃 lol
—the magnum box scene 🤣. Yeah, I cracked up. Lol. Alexei panics in such a cute way 🤣.
—the sunblock scenes 🥵. I need this in real life please and thank you 👀. I love how in tune Alexei is to Alina. And he definitely takes advantage 🤣
—how protective he is 🥰. Gahhhh! Alexei! I just wanna bottle you up!!! He’s so attentive and sweet. I mean, he even…
—feeds her 🥰 and then he has to of course include…
—good girl 🥵🫠. I’m such a puddle of goo 🙃
—the wedding dress scene 🤣 but also 👀
—forced breeeeding 😈. Like I said. He gives no Fs 💅
—how sweet he is 🥹. Yes protective, but just in general. Alina is IT for him, and he’s gonna do whatever he can to forcibly 🤣🫣😈 make her happy 🥹
—how often her carries her 🫶. I mean 👏🏻. Does Alina even need feet??? I wanna be carried everywhere 😭
What I didn’t like/wanted more of: —the cliffy 😑😭. Come on!!!! 😭😭😭
—length 😭. It took a year between books 1 and 2. How much longer before the next book comes out? 😭. I needed all those extra pages
—I definitely didn’t care about finding out Alexei’s previous s experience 😑. I’m glad he was celibate since he saw her, but still 😑
Overall, I loved it 😭 I’m glad AZ has a hero that will do anything for his heroine 🫶
⚠️safety squad⚠️ -no cheating*/sharing/owd/omd -dubcon/noncon ish -cheating dad recounting -recounting on mom’s death -praise kink/primal/biting -no condoms/forced breeding 😅/then condoms -cliffy
He did get her pregnant, but SURPRISE SURPRISE, she has cancer (as in a tumor because she's been experiencing headaches and nausea since her teenage years). I swear to God he was acting like a jerk, so it serves him right. Despite being nice and kind, he's still her CAPTOR, which earns him no points. (lol I mean I don't find him hot so???!!)
THIS ENDED IN A CLIFFHANGER! 🤬 I thought it was a duet!
I'm really not into cliffhangers, but boy, was this story amazing. 😭
I have been a huge fan of Alexei since the first book. But this one, man, he really got me. He and his dedication to Alina are the only reasons I gave this a 4 ⭐ rating. This guy would stop at nothing to get his girl. He is over-the-top jealous, possessive, and protective, which I really dig. Hands down one of the best anti-heroes I've ever read.
But I didn't need to know about his manhoe ways before meeting Alina; I just wanted to bleach my eyes from reading those lines. At the very least, he has remained celibate since the first time he saw her, so I guess I can pretend I didn't learn that gross fact about him. Also, I didn't like how he takes her roughly at times; I mean, dude, control the animalistic side, will you?
Alina, girl, make up your mind. Do you want him or not? I couldn't keep track of how many times I rolled my eyes because of her constant push-pull attitude. I'm still not sure whether I like her or not. But it did warm my heart that she wanted to . She would be a fantastic because I could really see how selfless she could be.
But what the f—that freaking twist? I didn't see it coming, and it was shocking and heartbreaking. 😭💔 So what are they going to do?
Maaaan, I already need the next book! Will it be the last one or not? I can't take any more cliffhangers. 😭
Seni okumak için harcadığım zamana yazık. Salaksınız! Kurgu da yok ortada. Kızı kaçırdı, okyanusun ortasında bir gemideler. İki tartışıp iki sevişiyorlar. Peh! 🙄 Sonlara doğru patlattıkları olaysa daha fena. 🤦🏻♀️
I do wonder if Zaires is losing her touch a bit - it took me like a month to get through the first 30% of this, though the remainder then raced by pretty quickly. Towards the end it became a minefield of soap-operatic drama, but mildly entertaining for all that. Technically well-written too, of course.
Now I'm just pissed. This book also ends on a cliff-hanger. WTH The author did this to the first book without any warning and once again failed to disclose that this book also ends on a cliff-hanger. Not cool.
Anna Zaire's was my first glimpse into the darker side of romance way back in 2015 and I have been addicted ever since! This is book two of the Molotov Betrothal series and we get to see just how obsessed Alexei is with Alina - we though he was maybe just upset that things didn't go the way it should? Heck no, this man wants her, he needs her and he'll stop at nothing to get her!!
Full of spice as well as some really sweet moments, my heart melts for Alexei. Alina knows she's attracted to him, she knows she cares for him and wants him, but she'll fight to he end before she admits it!!
It's a good read, spicy, sweet, steamy, sad, shocking and also ends on another cliffhanger - you think you're prepared? You're not!!
Can't wait for part 3.
*I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review.
Waited a whole year just for 180 pages.. disappointing. The heroine's resistance was also becoming very annoying and childish. Book ended in a cliffhanger, may or may not wait for the next book. So far I've only liked the "twist me" series of this author, all her other series just didn't do it for me.
I absolutely loved his obsessive nature and devotion towards Aline but her excessive reluctance to give their relationship a chance was too much for me 🙂↔️ 😤😭
I have read most of the books Anna Zaires has published under this name and like them all, but this one was not good at all. It is roughly 100 pages shorter than book one and while I thought it would be the conclusion of this couple’s story arc, it is not. The book felt poorly written and like the author was in a hurry to get something out in a certain time frame but it was far below her usual calibre. I don’t know if I will read the next book on this series as this point. The plot twist nearly to the end of the book is very upsetting to me and not something I would want to read about.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
ew. wanna read about an abusive husband who gives his wife nothing, feels entitled to fuck her whenever he wants (there's a line where she uses the cliched "I can't, honey, my head hurts" line to get out of sex and he DOESN'T LISTEN) and forces her to have his kid? you wanna read about him constantly objectify her and disregard her life and dreams? here you go! read about every bad relationship you've ever heard from your mom and grandma and friends... Anna, girl, what the fuck? The previous books had so much potential because Nikolai, at least, gave a fuck about her as a person. This is just abuse not even disguised. I have been in LOVE with Zaires' books ever since I found 'em but this is just not it. Please, don't turn into Cora Reilly where every book is the same because every guy is a whore and every girl gives it up the moment he touched her. There is so much more for you to explore. How about a girl who is the kidnapper and HE can't say no to her because he's madly in love with HER? Or how about a guy who makes your life BETTER and not worse? At least with that one dude (the first book of hers I read), he kidnapped her and then raped her but at least (not a good thing, ofc, don't get it twisted) in his POVs he awknowledges that it's rape. This dude just constantly does whatever and doesn't even think "hey, maybe I'm forcing her? since, you know, SHE hasn't initiated a SINGLE session of intercourse?"... God, girl, you're such a good writer - what is this shit?
Beautiful Chains is the thrilling sequel to Terrible Beauty and it is full of emotional trials, for Alina, for the reader, and maybe even unexpectedly for Alexei!
I love, love, LOVED the romantic tension between Alina and Alexei. Her fear of the future mixed with the power of her lust. His drive to possess, intertwined with his drive to protect. Her need for his comfort, battling with her resentment of his control. His blinding desire salted with his plea for her to give them a chance. Oh, this couple!
Dark romance often highlights the ethical dilemma of whether the ends justifies the means. If our couple declares their mutual love and need in the end, if they are willing to sacrifice everything for one another, if they end up happily ever after, will that make what came before “okay?” I am completely invested in what comes next for Alina and Alexei. Per tradition, the cliffhanger for Beautiful Chains (Book 2) rivals Solo in carbonite!
***I received an ARC of this Book (However, I only accept ARCs from my 1 click Authors)***
🖤Contemporary 🖤Mafia Romance 🖤Jealous/Possessive Hero 🖤Non-соn/dub-соn 🖤Fоrсеd Pregnancy 🖤Enemies to lovers 🖤Imprint on first sight 🖤Stаlking 🖤Virgin heroine 🖤 Fоrсеd proximity 🖤Blаckmail 🖤Mine 🖤Only one yacht 🤪
Hot Russian Mafia man finally tracks down his runaway betrothed mafia princess (that he’s been stalking and obsessing over for years), starts a war with her family, kidnарs her to his private yacht some where in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, blасkmails her into marriage and plans on impregnating her to tie her to him further… what’s not to like!? Bb This damn book made me ball my eyes out! Anna…WTF!? Respectfully, warn a girl! I’m hormonal and I did not see this ending coming!
I’m not going to spoil anything for anyone but please know that this is book 2 of the Molotov Betrothal Series and it does end on a MAJOR cliffhanger.
I absolutely adored book 1 of the series (even though it was a bit of a slow burn)… However, this book made up for the slow burn of book 1 in spades and came out SWINGING … 🍆s (if you catch my drift 😜)
The spice was IMPECCABLE! On brand with Anna’s usual way of making non-соn/dub-соn feel less icky and more primal if that makes any sense. You could really feel Alexei’s passion, longing and pent-up desires for Alina and Alina’s inner battle against herself for wanting him was classic. Considering this book took place primarily on a yacht the forced proximity was delicious and I loved the jealous/posessive/mine vibes Alexei radiated on every page. There was so much epic spice yet lots of really tender moments between the two. I can’t get into more without spoiling things but over all this I binged this book in one night, it was PERFECTION, just the right about of spice to plot and the ending made me cry. I cannot wait for book 3!
Alexei Leonov is everything I want in a book boyfriend: powerful, loyal, deliciously possessive, yet darkly romantic and caring. He and Alina have been my favorite Anna Zaires couple since Julian and Nora....and that's saying something. Beautiful Chains has all of the dark romance elements I love, a fabulous forced-proximity location, and best of all a poignancy that brought a beautiful depth to the story. I am very much looking forward to the next part of their story!
Body betrayal at its absolute worst. I loved the first book but this one dragged. They’re together on a boat for this whole book. In summary, most scenes are either them having sex, her having a headache, or her asking ‘but why me tho…. Like is it cos I’m so pretty’ and sometimes it’s a mix of all three.
This book suddenly went from the mafia and obsessed guy who finally gets his girl to cancer and dying shit. Sorry it felt like the author did not know where to go from book 1 so she just created something like this. All they did was have sex. The story did not progress and suddenly she has cancer. Nope a very big disappointment.
