4 stars, Cheryl Holt version. Not to be judged for its stars against non-Cheryl Holt books. I enjoyed this one, in her usual formulas and so on the ML was a bit different in that he's a pretty good guy. Still a cad, but he's got a good heart. I'm labeling it as a "wallpaper historical" because it is not really concerned with facts ("resigning your commission" when you're a Sargent?), but with the purported conventions of the time (sort of).
If you like Holt's self-published work you'll undoubtedly like this one too. I'm a fan, as you can see.

Love can unexpectedly find you, even when you're not searching. "With One Look" is a prime example of love catching you off guard with just a single glance.
Set in Regency London, this historical romance showcases characters that break away from the typical stereotypes of the time. Theodora (Theo) Cronenworth is independent, strong-willed, and uninterested in marriage. Jackson Bennett, an army veteran turned Lord Thornhill, unexpectedly inherits a grand estate but has no desire for titles, property, or matrimony.
As Theo and Jackson's paths cross, their lives become intertwined with deceit, gambling, secret meetings, and a shared quest for the truth. The characters in the novel, both good and bad, are flawed yet uniquely memorable. Theo and Jackson share an immediate connection filled with witty banter and sarcasm. Some of their conversations made me LOL.
Despite meddling relatives trying to sabotage their relationship, Jackson proves to be the hero Theo needs, even when he denies his own capabilities of being one.
The story is packed with action, betrayal, slander, and deception from all angles, creating characters you'll love to hate and cheer against. You'll honestly start cheering when they get their comeuppance.

Despite being betrothed to her stepbrother, Theodora Cronenworth is motivated to secure some sort of future for herself. She never counted on meeting Jackson Bennett, the new Earl of Thornhill.
With One Look by Cheryl Holt serves up the first installment of A Sister’s Duet. As a Regency romance, one of the key themes is an effort by some of the society ladies to call out illicit conduct. However, as Theo points out, the effort should include shaming the male scoundrels.
Theo’s lack of trust ties to a scandal involving her mother running off with another man. With her father now deceased, she must rely on her stepmother and stepbrother, Arthur, since there was allegedly no will.
Jackson, who gained the title as a reward for service, loves gambling and has no intention of settling down. However, one look at Theo fascinates him.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve read a Regency Romance, but I am so happy to have chosen WITH ONE LOOK to jump back in!
I dove into WITH ONE LOOK just before bed on a weekday evening… big mistake. I read until my eyes couldn’t see and then woke up groggy because I just couldn’t put it down. It was fun, interesting, and absorbing. The characters are perfect – I loved them all, good and bad. Their conversations and thoughts even made me laugh out loud. (Not great when everyone is sleeping!) I found the setting to be interesting- there was just enough about the town, architecture, and history to be relevant and interesting but not so much that I felt compelled to investigate 😉
I’m very much looking forward to reading WITH ONE KISS, the teasers are just too good to resist.
With memorable characters and an enjoyable plot WITH ONE LOOK is sure to be your favorite luxury read of the year as it is mine.

This book was a light, airy, London historical romance and a nice break from the intense thrillers I’ve been reading lately! A warm weather beach read or cold weather cozy up by the fire book, perfect if you’re looking for a laid back romance with a hint of steam between the sheets… of paper 😉
There was so much scandal and debauchery going on behind closed doors, I’m not quite sure any of the characters were actually loyal at all! While flawed, the main characters definitely were likable, and despite their impulsive and reckless choices, I did find myself rooting for them. Then we had the distasteful characters, you know, the ones you love to hate and root for their demise! Oh boy, were they disdainful! I really wanted each and every one of them to get what was coming to them!

With One Look by Cheryl Holt is filled with humor, action, and playful banter between the characters. I really enjoyed reading this historical fiction by Cheryl Holt. It is the first book in the series and the first I have read of hers. I recommend it to all who love the historical fiction and regency era. I love how the men can be so decadent, and the women have to uphold such values. Theodora is the perfect match for Jackson. His life completely changed when she enters his dull everyday life. She is fierce, straight to the point, and smart. He needs her as much as she needs him. I cannot wait to read the second book in this entertaining series.

I love a good historical romance y'all and this was a good one! Theo is a woman who wants fair lives for all women and she works in a group to improve them. Jackson is a new Lord and he wants nothing to do with women, especially Theo. What are they to do?
The author did a great job with the banter between Theo and also Jackson as they are getting to know each other and become involved with each other. The intimate scenes are really well done by the author, she sent the readers into a verbal steamy scene of romance and also how things can be between a man and a woman. I really liked this book between Theo and Jackson and I really want to read the other book in the series now:)
I highly recommend this book to all fans of historical romance reads!
