In 1835 Montreal, 17-year-old Joana Desrosiers secretly marries her father's penniless Irish gardener, Alex Farrell. Disowned by her wealthy family and high society, she leaves the city with her husband to live on a dilapidated farm. Despite feeling overwhelmed, Joana never regrets her decision. Together, they work hard to build a comfortable life, remaining united despite hardships. Over time, Joana gives birth to four charming children. However, a severe accident and a prolonged illness shatter their happiness, forcing the children into an orphanage and onto separate paths. Fortunately, the eldest, liane, vows to reunite her siblings, as promised to her mother.
