Really enjoyed this one.

A not-so-boring inside look at elite figure skaters who train for competitions (like the Olympics) at a skating boarding house/gym.

Romance, catty competitive friend drama, and an icy coach who just might push our main girl to be her best.

Last year for my birthday, my husband gave me the entire twelve book YA series from the late eighties called Satin Slippers that I loved as a kid about a girl who wanted to be a ballet dancer. Another series that I loved was this one, the Silver Skates books about several girls who were training to be figure skaters. I found two of these recently at a used book store and picked them up for a nostalgia read, and I wasn't disappointed. Having not read these multiple times, I didn't remember the plot lines as I did with the Satin Slippers books, so this first book was like reading it for the first time with a vague sense of deja vu. I liked the first book about Claire, an aspiring figure skater, and her first months of training at a competitive school in Lake Placid a fun and quick read. I wish I'd found the whole series, but it seems I'm going to have to jump ahead to book five, as that was the only other one I have been able to find so far. Three stars for nostalgic fun of YA pulp fiction story telling.
