After Nancy’s death, her family becomes fractured. Jonathan still talks to his grandmother and Frank becomes lonely and even more of a grumbly old codger.
Nina decides enough is enough. Packing up and setting off to France for a camping holiday seems like the perfect idea to get away from suffocating in-laws, ex-husbands and re-connect as a family.
However, one tent, a baby and a teenager in tow, couldn’t prove to be that much to handle surely?
The story is told from several character viewpoints: Nancy’s widowed husband, Frank, her ex daughter-in-law, Nina, and her teenage grandson, Jonathan. Nancy has influenced each of them and each remembers her in their own way.
Nina takes her two children on an impromptu camping holiday to France much to the displeasure of her ex husband and his father. Their disapproval isn’t totally unfounded when she manages to lose her baby son.
