When the world ends, what doesn’t kill you doesn’t make you stronger . . . it just saves you for what will.

Skylar

Living felt like a burden because, no matter how much I feared the inevitable, I couldn’t avoid the way it would end. Death. I spent so much time fearing the dark, always focused on an uncertain future, that my present was lost in it.

When the infection began, those dark fears came to life. I was confronted with my own mortality, and fear controlled me, forcing me closer to the danger that threatened the life I clung to. My only choice was to survive, to bury the fear that debilitated me so deep inside that the coal turned to diamond strength. Everything was gone, and I was alone.

Or was I?

Knox

Death couldn’t come soon enough.

For as long as I could remember, I’d been numb, hoping one day I’d drown in a bottle of whiskey. The grim reaper always pulled me out just in time to remind me that I deserved more punishment in this purgatory.

When the world ended, that bloody horizon should have been my chance to fade into the chaos of a broken world . . . until she barged into my life, and I saw the first color I’d seen in a long time.

Blue.

I devoured this book like the undead in it! It’s her debut novel and I can’t wait to read more from this author. I loved the writing, the story and that ending! I want the physical book and to reread it.

“Danger until death, everything in between was just the lonely, worthless prison I forced myself to exist in.”

I cried and felt all the tension. The emotional tone in this zombie apocalypse had me on the edge of my seat for the characters. Skylar and Knox are broken people but find healing and love at the end of the world. The story does not focus so much on the zombies but on the relationship and survival. They are pulled to each other by their grief and pain even though they come from different worlds. The dual pov was a perfect element to connect with each character. I felt Skylar’s fear and the worry of being a burden to survive. But Knox is there until the end and it broke my heart.

“I’d tattooed my skin with the sins of my past, but now I wanted to tattoo the world with the beauty of her soul.“

“When you’ve spent your whole life as a ghost, and someone finally sees you, they become the only thing that matters.”

This has been the greatest ARC I’ve read so far this year. Devastatingly beautiful. From main characters, to side characters, to villains.

If I could even begin to compare to tropes/another series; I’d say if The Fabric of Our Souls and The Walking Dead had a baby.

Skylar and Knox are torturous & sucked me in from the second they met.
I was PLEASANTLY surprised that even though there weren’t an excessive amount of smutty scenes - the few that were in there were fucking immaculate. 10/10 chefs kiss.

And the end .. please god I can’t even. I finished it in bed last night and my heart is still bleeding 🫠🥹😭❤️

READ THIS BOOK NOW.

I can't say the author didn't warn me 😭😭

Tropes
🥀Tortured souls
🥀Apocalypse
🥀Dual POV
🥀Zombies
🥀Romantic Tragedy
🥀Mental health rep

Wow, ok so somebody get the tissue because this brought the tears. Maybe I've just been reading too many romantasy books where a tragic/ negative thing occurring isn't a finality. Back broken? No problem, magic fix. Death? No problem, their soul had lingered. Gave up powers? They'll get them back. Maybe I've been spoiled with that, because with this one, I got to witness the love story of two tortured souls against the back drop of a zombie apocalypse and I ended up SOBBBINGGG at the end. I haven't read a book where I didn't get the *sprinkles fairy dust* happily ever after I was expecting in a loooong long while. Note that this is not spoilers, as the author's note at the beginning of the novel says "HEA is not guaranteed"

Overall I liked this book, my only qualms were that I wished there were more zombies, and the pacing was sometimes inconsistent for me. But the prose and the introspection were great :D

Thank you to @unalivepromotions and Aspen Blakely for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Infinity stars. I never want to forget this.

Going into this, I knew better than to expect a happily ever after. I’d prepared myself (or so I thought). But the ending, while not as devastating as what my mind had pictured, still left me hollow. I’m not sad because of how it ended. I’m sad because of what they had… it was life-changing. It was love blooming in chaos, fragile and bright, despite everything they were up against, including their own minds.

Skylar and Knox couldn’t have been more different. Skylar, with a life of comfort but a soul shadowed by a constant fear of death. Knox, knew only pain & never got the life he deserved. He carried trauma like a second skin, waiting for death with open arms. Neither of them expected love. Especially not in a world unraveling at the seams.

But somehow, in that wreckage, they found it. And that’s what hurt the most.

The quiet moments. The little glances. The soft touches, and the way they held on like they never wanted to let go. Because when everything else is uncertain, you cling to what makes you feel alive. Those fleeting joys were everything. But every beautiful second came with the ache of knowing it couldn’t last.

Time was never on their side.
And yet they were eternal.

ARC read:

I freakin' enjoyed the sh!t outta this book!!!

Ya'll June 6th this one releases, and I'm telling ya now, it's one YOU'RE GONNA WANNA READ!

I'm gonna be pretty vague here. Since it's over a month til release, just expect lots more posts and words from me throughout the weeks. 😉

I was beyond excited when I first heard about this book. A fellow bookstagrammer giving me zombies, oh and an apocalypse, and then NOT guaranteeing me an HEA.... F*CKIN BET YOUR ASS I WAS SOLD!

'Maybe he'll was making room for my demons here.'
-Knox (I forever love him, btw)

This book you get a character scared of death. And another who chases death. Throw in people eating zombies. A dash of an apocalypse taking place. You lose EVERYTHING, or you had nothing to begin with. And now all you know or need is this one person that is going through what you're going through. Something you never saw coming. Never prepared for. How do you make it out alive... How do you live like this... and through all that, maybe even fall in love.

"I know you don't know me, and I don't know you, but you make me feel safe. Even when everything is out of control."
-Skylar

Okay, for now, that's all ya get!
Just know I will not stop talking about this book! Absolutely AMAZING!
I am beyond smitten with Knox & Skylar! I highlighted like half the book.... at least.

THANK YOU, Aspen, for letting me get my hands on this bad boy early! I am BEYOND EXCITED to see what comes next from you. I'm still in shock that this was only your debut!

This is such a vibes book. & I loved that. Even though this is a debut novel, Aspen really grabs your attention from the get go with her writing!! Loveddd the zombie grotesque scenes. Also loved how the two main characters just honestly gravitated to one another. No hard and complicated explanations, his demonds spoke to hers is exactly the vibe. Ugh sobs. This book made me scared and emotional and also had me blushing and smiling and eeek! Loved it. My only minute points would be the pacing sometimes was a little inconsistent and I wish some scenes were more flushed out! I want more more more more. But great overall !!! A must read zombie apocalypse love story!

Thank you to the author for this ARC in exchange of an honest review.

I really enjoyed this fresh post apocalyptic novel! I always been a fan of horror especially zombies and this one did not disappoint.

I will say that the pacing of the story wasn't linear it started slow picked up a little and then slowed down again to restart the circle so that's really my only complaint.

Other than that I loved the mental health representation and the character growth was well down. Be ready to have your heart broken.

If I could erase this book from my mind just so I could read it again for the first time, I absolutely would. I fell so deeply in love with the characters-seeing a lot of myself in both Skylar and Knox. Simultaneously fearful of death yet welcoming it.

As the end of the world erupts around them, they find solace in one another and the company they offer. The gore is visceral and raw, much like watching an episode of TWD would be. The emotions portrayed in the dual POV offer an insight into both the internal and external effects of the apocalypse, which personally only made me love them more.

I can honestly say I have NEVER cried so hard at a book before, and I don't think I ever will again.

Aspen, you are magical. Your words created a world so realistic and characters so relatable that my heart was ripped out of my chest. Next time you think of Knox, ask him for it back?😂

Who thought a zombie apocalypse love story would tug at the heart strings like this? 😭

Slow to start, but once it picked up, you are thrown into an emotional roller-coaster of a story.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first signed up, but I was not disappointed in the slightest.

We Had Infinity is a definite must-read!

I was fortunate enough to be given an ARC of this debut novel!

I was inconsolable after finishing. I could hardly give feedback. It was so emotionally gripping. The entire book is character driven and full of complex relationship dynamics that only increase in complexity and deepen in intensity.

If you like dark, emotional storytelling, with apocalyptic vibes, check out this incredible tale of torment and growth.

This book broke me in the best way. I finished it feeling hollow and heart-sore, yet grateful I got to experience it. It’s still wild to me that this was Aspen’s first novel, because the writing feels like it came from someone who’s been crafting stories like this for years. Without question, it’s my top read of 2025.

The heart of this story isn’t the end of the world, it’s the way two people found each other when they had no reason to. Skylar has spent her whole life afraid of the worst, waiting for it to hit. Knox has lived through so much pain that he stopped caring if life went on. Neither of them wanted love, and definitely not at the end of the world, but that’s when it showed up anyway.

The parts that stayed with me weren’t the fights or the blood. It was the quiet pieces that cut the deepest. The way a single look could say everything. The way a touch felt like it might have to carry a goodbye. Laughter slipping in when you least expected it. Those fragile moments are what made this story unforgettable, because they felt borrowed.

The whole book is soaked in grief. It’s not just about losing people, it’s about losing the future, and even losing parts of yourself you’ll never get back. But somehow, in all that weight, there’s still this strange kind of beauty. It’s a quiet reminder that even when the world is falling apart, the way people hold on to each other still matters.

This book made me cry, but it also gave me reasons to smile through the ache. It didn’t hand over a “typical” perfect ending, but what it gave instead felt true, and strong. It reminded me that even in the harshest worlds, love can be fragile, temporary, and still the most beautiful thing.

A zombie apocalypse romance has turned out to be one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever read. ♾️⭐️

Two near-strangers find themselves in a coffee shop when chaos erupts and the world begins to end. One fears death, while the other longs for it. So why does Knox save Skylar in that moment? Why does he keep protecting her? At first, he can't answer that. And so, Knox and Skylar struggle to survive against the undead...AND the living.

“𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠𝑛’𝑡 𝑘𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑠𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙.”

This was JUST the story I had been looking for: a post-apocalyptic dystopian zombie survival love story. I was completely enthralled, imagining every scene as if it were a movie or TV series. It took me through a range of emotions and even had me crying my eyes out towards the end. Everything was nearly perfect and exceeded all expectations for a debut novel, which I didn't realize until after finishing the book.

The author warns before diving into the story that it is not a romance but a love story, and a HEA is not guaranteed. As expected in a zombie survival tale, there is plenty of gore. Additionally, the author includes a playlist of songs meant to accompany each chapter.

"𝑊𝑒𝑙𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑒𝑤 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑟."
Please, please, please listen to “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC when reading chapter 21. It gave me that added adrenaline rush and had me grinning from ear to ear. THUNDER!

Amid all the tragedy, evil, and flying body parts, Knox and Skylar’s growing love for one another was beautiful. Together, they learned to overcome their own struggles. Together, they saved each other. Knox, a broken man who loved deeply, was perfection. This slow-burn, plot-driven story featured significant character development that I truly appreciated. The few chapters with explicit sexual content were written exceptionally well, feeling real and raw. I had an amazing experience reading this entire book. Though I'm unsure if I can trust the author with my heart again, I look forward to reading more from Blakely.

I struggled a lot in what rating to give this book. I went in completely blind without knowing the main theme, which is one of my worst fears come to life, and I nearly DNF it for that sole reason. I would just dread going back into the story just to see the characters suffer. I avoid zombie books like the plague and would be very happy if I never read one like this again.

On the other hand, the main characters were so compelling that it I couldn't help but come back to it despite my obvious hesitation, and that speaks volumes for the writing. Skylar and Knox were such an easy couple to root for and fall in love in the same degree that they fell for each other, world ending be dammed. The found family hit me hard as well.

The plot was pretty straightforward, and I had hoped for more world building because these kinds of stories have such a leighty fabric to cut that this could have had the potential of being a much larger narrative than what it was. I would have loved to have more background on the secondary characters. The third act would have carried more of a gut punch had their stories been more fleshed out. After the aisle scene with Skylar and Gia, I didn't understand her decision on the compound. Granted, she didn't owe Skylar or Knox shit but the people that protected her and Grayson? It didn't cross my mind that her character would be that fickle considering what she had just gone through.

As it stands, I'm incredibly hopeful for this author. As mentioned, I genuinely did not want to continue the book once it became obvious where the plot was headed, but it kept calling me back until those last 5 chapters that it was just a sob fest on my part. For a debut, this was a great foot in the front door.

Ps. Beckett, you have amazing music taste and anybody who says otherwise can shove it. You were THE highlight! My tears weren't just for the dead, they were for your brotherhood as well.

This book has my whole heart, despite it being in such tiny pieces after finishing. I devoured the whole thing in almost one sitting and honestly, it ripped my heart out. I knew going in, there wasn’t a guaranteed HEA, and honestly, I love a tragic ending, because not all love stories have happy endings. It’s unrealistic, and naive to assume it’s all hearts and flowers, when really it can be ugly & heart wrenching. And although it hurts, the most tragic endings, are the ones that always stick with me, and this is no exception. Skylar & Knox wormed their way into my heart, and I will never forget them! Their story was epic, unforgettable & so beautiful.

Happy endings were the stories that death didn’t tell.

Aspen had so many beautiful quotes, but this one really stuck with me.. I think it’s the most heartfelt & genuine thing I’ve ever read.
- Our endings are all the same. It’s what we do with the small moments of happiness before the last page is turned that matters. - And this quote just sums up this whole book in a sentence. 🥹🥹🥹 and now I’m crying again.

Skylar & Knox found themselves thrown together, just when they needed it, without that meet, I don’t think either of them would have lasted very long when it was time to fight. After an outbreak threatens their future and all things they love, Knox takes Skylar under his wing and fought the war for them both. Knox was his own kind of broken, and in saving Skylar, I feel like he saved a part of himself. His best bits, just for her. He really deserved the world. 😭

“I needed you before I even knew you existed. I would have needed you if the world hadn’t ended. I’m just afraid that one day, you’re going to find a part of me that’s too sharp to hold, and hurt yourself on my broken pieces.”

They fought, so hard for their future… for eachother, but in the end… their love was always going to be infinite. They loved, and they loved hard. That kind of raw, unfiltered, once in a lifetime love that many can only dream of. They had it. When the chaos quietened, even just for a minute it was as if the world stopped. Time was never in their favour, but still that they made every second matter, every touch, every breath, every shared glance. Knox would literally burn the world for Skylar.

🔥 “The world is already burning, blue, but I would scald my hands on the embers to save you from the ashes.” 🔥

Aspens beautiful writing captured their story perfectly… and her way with words had me falling in love with her writing. I’m so excited for future books and I’ll be first in queue!

Beautifully written, unforgettable & an infinity star read. ♾️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️♾️

The world is ending and neighbors Skylar and Knox find solace in each other in their final moments. Two tortured souls that had my heart from the beginning. Skylar has always struggled with crippling anxiety and facing death is her moment to either give into her fears or finally find an inner strength buried within. Knox however has never feared death; life has not been kind and he’s actually welcomed it, until Skylar opens his eyes.

Told in dual POV, the internal struggles and how each copes with them grips you immediately. As expected with a story involving zombies, there is plenty of gore, which Aspen vividly brings to life. You can feel both the emotional and physical pain battling the undead. Their connection is intense and only deepens til the very end.

This is a fast paced, character driven story that brings all the emotions. I love deeply flawed characters and they’re exquisitely written here. The mental health rep is amazing and propels this story into something so much more than a simple story of love or good versus evil. It’s messy and real.

If you told me before I’d be so deeply moved by a zombie apocalypse love story, you’d have gotten major side eye, but this was truly one of the most beautiful debuts I’ve ever read. If Aspen isn’t on your radar yet, she needs to be now.

Thank you Aspen Blakely for this amazing ARC.

READ THIS BOOK!!, so good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

This book is the most perfect apocalyptic romance which I didn’t know I needed to read but I was fully hooked from start to finish. Such a beautiful story, it had so many elements about the meaning of life and death and self worth after trauma. Literally just a masterpiece. The ending did make me cry and at first I was pissed cause I wished it ended differently but I do think it made sense for the character development and helped close the story off rather than leave me left with a lot of questions. Just read it though you will have zero regrets, it was an absolute page turner from the start

Also there is music that goes with the story pretty perfectly and some of the songs and are part of the book. It’s written on one of the first few pages but no one had made a playlist for it yet so of course I had to. Link below if you want to listen to it while you read which I recommend. It made the sad parts so much more beautiful

Or just search We Had Infinity (Book Playlist) on Spotify which is how I have it titled

I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review, that I am leaving voluntarily.
Wow.
This one was a lot to process. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it, I’ve never read an apocalyptic novel, but I actually ended up loving it. It was very Walking Dead, but the video game, not the show. I liked the fact that it got pretty much straight to the point, not long after starting, and didn’t drag out and start halfway through so we were actually able to see more of what was going on. I enjoyed both the love story and the apocalypse aspect of this novel, and I think it was written very well. The author wrote in a way I was able to picture things clearly in my mind, which helped a lot with reading it.
There was so many emotions I felt with this book, it was action packed, intense, sad, happy. It was truly wonderful. For a debut novel, this is fantastic, and I would love to read more. This was one of those couldn’t put down, binge read books, and it opened up a whole new love for a different genre I’m not used to reading.

Aspen Blakely did an exceptional job on getting the reader from beginning to end of We Had Infinity. This book is an apocalyptic romantic and tragic love story of 2 lost souls navigating an abrupt halt that falls upon humanity.

With that said, I suggest you check out the content and trigger warnings list before reading. My favorite part is Aspen’s writing. I was lucky enough to alpha read this book and from that start, I fell in love with the alpha version of her writing, as well as getting by to read the ARC version months and months later.

Now to the characters. Two tortured souls, Knox and Skylar, each with their own haunts, get thrown into a new reality of massacres from mindless zombies and too mindful humans. Sometimes I wonder what they would say if you asked them which was worse, zombies or their fellow men?

Thank you to the author for the ARC and these have been my honest thoughts!

This book. This. Freaking. Book. What a debut novel from Aspen! I'm honestly still processing the emotions from reading this story.

An unlikely love story at the end of humanity; the story of two people surviving as the world devolves into chaos following the apocalypse. Written in dual POV from Knox and Skylar, we experience fear, joy, uncertainty, doubt, happiness, hope, sadness, anger and, above all, grief.

In my opinion, this novel is an essay on the different types of grief and the ways it can manifest itself in us. It is heartbreaking in the most beautiful of ways. If you want a book that is going to make you FEEL... This is an absolute recommendation. But only if you can handle a decent amount of gore and violence. It's still a zombie book, guys.

Who knew a zombie apocalypse could be so beautiful?! There is something so poetic about two strangers finding love during the end of the world. This book completely destroyed my heart and left me feeling numb, but I absolutely loved it!

Skylar fears death. Knox craves it. Together, they learn to overcome their struggles and heal one another. I loved the mental health rep and how raw and real they were. This book is very character-driven, and their growth journey was so captivating to read. It felt like a literal movie playing out in my head. There were times when I was giddy and smiling, and times when my heart was heavy and anxious. All the emotions were felt with this one.

I highly recommend it for anyone looking for something unique, unforgettable, and heartbreakingly beautiful.

This book was amazing. You definitely need to remember going into it that it’s a story set during the zombie apocalypse b/c if you don’t, you’ll be taken aback. It’s not a romance. It’s a book of survival and how we respond when shit hits the fan.

It’s very fast paced, but I understand why… it’s the freaking apocalypse and when shit hits the fan, it hits fast. Both characters were believable and their story was heartbreaking. The prose was wonderful. I found myself forgetting its set in the zombie apocalypse. I appreciated that it was overly gory or descriptive as tends to happen in zombie books.

Can’t wait for more from this author.

What do a person that fears death and a person that craves it have in common? The need for something to feel fucking worth it.

This indie debut had me in a chokehold. I loved the contrasting dual POV’s and the romance sprinkled throughout. The characters were relatable, and so were the mental health aspects of the story. Many intense zombie interactions had me on the edge of my seat. This dark, emotional rollercoaster is one I would ride again, fully aware more tears would be shed. Aspen’s writing style is gorgeous, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next ♥️

Lets start this review by saying, I had no idea what to expect going in because I did not read the synopsis.... I heard it was a beautiful and sad story with mental health rep. Imagine my surprise when there are zombies and horror elements. I was shocked, then I read the synopsis and realised that I'd have known this if I did research. But no I pick books based on pretty covers and people saying that the story is gorgeous.

That aside, I had an absolutely amazing time with this story. It was tragic and had me almost crying at moments but seeing the relationships that can form at the end of the world, and how people lean on others but also can destroy them really stuck a chord with me.

This was honestly so emotional and seeing Skylar and Knox, these two broken humans find healing and love was lush. The zombies didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things because this was all about the relationship and the survival. They both held so much pain and suffering and didn't know how to manage it, but with each other they could face them and deal with them rather than letting these things rule them. The dual POV allowed me to love and understand both of them and feel incredibly connected to their story.

This book is really different to what i’ve read lately and I have to say that I am so honored to get to read this beauty.

To not say much of the story, it does send you on an emotional rollercoaster where I can guarantee you that you will be flipping this book off. Not because it’s horrible but because the ending was just devastating. At least to me it felt that way. i wanted a lot more where I got my happy ending and it just didn’t happen. It’s a change of scenery for now but it was a really good book. It was amazing!

“If I had the chance to save you, even if it meant hurting myself, i would. I fear something more than death now, and that’s having to live any more of this life without you in it.”

💖 Knox & Sawyer 💖

This was a really beautiful and emotional story with some absolutely stunning character arcs. It def gave The Walking Dead vibes and even came with it own personal version of Negan, but without the redemption arc. This book really brings a new dimension to the bear vs. man debate though. Would you rather be trapped in the apocalypse with zombies? or men? Is anyone surprised the answer is zombies? Not me lol.

I did struggle with the pacing at times, often feeling as if I was just waiting for something important to happen and I was also able to predict the ending, but not gunna lie, it still ripped my heart out a bit. It was poetic and perfect, but only for those who can handle a not so happy ending. Because let's be real, there is not happily ever after in the zombie apocalypse.

This debut book kept me on my toes! Who would have thought an apocalypse could be so romantic to read about? The author did a great job with balancing an instant connection with slow burn sexual tension, it really leaves you wanting more each chapter. The dual POV helps immensely with getting the closure you need at the end...I was choking up... I can't wait to read more books from Aspen Blakely!

Okay, Aspen 🤌🏻😍 I see you!

This was definitely something new to me, but I’m glad I gave jt a try!

I feel dead inside… but damn the characters have it much worse than me 😆 so not funny, I need help.

He rides a motorcycle and acts mean but is lowkey a softie… I love me. Don’t say anything else 😁 I liked the characters, especially when they’re together (around each other). They just felt right and they NEEDED each other, trust me, they needed each other lol.

Overall, I’d say go in this open minded and let’s not forget this is a debut. She did one hell of an awesome job 🤌🏻

READ TRIGGER WARNINGS!!!!!!

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Spice: I don’t even know what to rate this because it was spicy but cute… mixed with the zombies and the ending… hmm… leave me alone.

I honestly wish I could read this for the first time again. Needs to be read in one sitting.

I've never read a zompoc book so emotional. The mental health rep was also a nice change.

my only complaints are the pacing was a bit off at times, still some editing errors, and I felt like Skylar was crying every five seconds.

glad I took a chance on this one!

I wanted to enjoy this one so much but it just didn’t click for me. Skylar and Knox had potential, but their love story felt too rushed and vibed in a “telling” way and not so much as “showing”. I couldn’t connect with Skylar, and that really took me out of it. By the last few chapters, I found myself skimming, hoping for a pull back in that never really came.
