Have you ever read a book and had the feeling - this could be SO much more than what it is? I absolutely adored the concept of Catch a Falling Star and was intrigued by the idea of a far-off planet with advanced thinking beings using little to no technology.

Unfortunately, the great idea for a story got a bit lost in the erotica. And this is coming from someone who loves reading erotica. I wanted to know more about the lost world featured in this story. I wanted to know more about the earth-like planet that the female lead had arrived from when she crashed her spaceship into the undiscovered planet. Every single time the story started to get interesting, we had to pause for another sex romp. Did I mention already that I LIKE erotica? I did? Well okay then. This is not another review coming from someone who falsely picked up an erotica book expecting a regular romance and getting more than they bargained for. I just never took to the threesome (and the courtesans...) in Catch a Falling Star. Honestly, the story would have been better worked as a m/m. Rarely do 3 way menage HEA's work well for me. It takes the right formula for it to be not only hot, but also believable.

Another gripe was the mix of interplanetary slang and modern day slang. If you're going to call a woman's part a "quim," then stick with that. Don't switch over to "pussy." It feels disjointed.

Do I regret reading the book? Not at all. 3 stars means I thought something about the story was okay or enjoyable. I loved the world-building in this story. I'm semi-curious about reading more in the series (I noticed that there are different authors, so I'm not sure how the books connect, if at all). Maybe a different take with a different couple would work better for me.

Lea is a scout on a mission on to collect information on a fleet of planet harvesters. Shot down, she crash lands on Pamaar, a planet which shouldn't be there. Thane is the ruler of Pamaar and Deon is his lover and personal guard. Thane's power of healing is explicitly linked to Pamaar and he has been progressively getting weaker. Thane believes in a prophecy/vision by a seer what states that a woman will fall from the sky who will basically solve all their problems and become the next queen. From there the fun starts!

Allyson James is a very strong author who writes very convincingly. This story had the potential to be a 5 star read but fell a little flat around the characters and world building. Don't get me wrong, I really liked our heroine Lea, she was strong and consistent in her choices and actions, despite her internal confusion about whether to stay or go. Our ruler Thane is the ultimate gamma-male- he has the perfect mix of powerful and arrogant alpha as well as introspective and sensitive qualities of a beta male. Honestly I have not seen a hero with so much self restraint and discipline in... ever. As for Deon, I never got the feeling like he was really into Lea but rather he was just a passive partner in this love triangle. It was such a shame too since Deon was really hot.

Book is by Allyson James NOT Rose Middleton!

Enjoyable read but not her best, some of the characters were pretty thin. Futuristic/medieval setting [our heroine is a spacefarer who crashes on their planet...:] Contains menage and same sex contact...

This stories setting is a magical, yet primitive culture with some really unique customs.
There are flying birds that can carry immense amounts of weight, with no problems, a caste system with the nobles on top, no mechanical technology to speak of, and people still fight using swords and knives.
In other words, a limited tech, fantasy world.

Now, add in 2 gorgeous men, one the ruler of the planet, the other a bodyguard.
To round things out, drop in a foreign woman, who gets hurt and needs help.
The setting is complete.

Last you need a big problem.
The main problem is caused by a ruthless spacefaring culture and/or environmental damage.

* NOTE * There is a lot of MM, MF, and MMF sex.
If you don't like gay/bi sex, you might want to pass on this one.
If you don't mind, you might learn a few things you could try out.
She has a great imagination in that way.

I liked this story a lot, but I am used to these things in her books.
You could say they are signatures, or tells, of her writing.

I am giving this book 4 stars because of the relationship between Thane and Deon. It was so intense and emotional, that I became very engaged very quickly. Lea was almost unnecessary for me, although there are some sexy moments in the mmf scenes.
