Since they were sundered, the fraternal Empires of Blue and Green and Red and Ivory have struggled for primacy. Eternally bound in competition, they lurch from raid to war, peace forever on the horizon, forever out of reach.
When indifferent priest and degenerate gambler Thnitossi's debt becomes more than he can pay, he finds his feet set on a path which could lead to Empires' end.
A collection of brand new novelettes and short stories, “The Path to Empires’ End” tracks the rise of the Convocation of the Blessed, a martial brotherhood gifted with divine powers, powers which their Emperor believes can forever assure his land’s supremacy.

“Joel Glover... sure knows how to write... At times I was reminded of the Malazan novels by Steven Erikson or Chronicles of the Black Company by Glen Cook” @Theemptybkshelf
Punk, poet, extrovert, accountant, and reformed mandarin, Joel is a cuddly teddy bear really. He lives in the woods of Hertfordshire with two boys and one wife.
He writes fantasy with a sardonic but romantic vein, heavy on politics, neurodiversity, LGBTQ themes and menace. He also writes poetry, science-fiction short stories, picture book scripts (with significantly less menace).
First of all I really enjoyed Glover's style of writing for each individual story set in this fantasy world. However, for the majority of the book I had no idea how every story was connected and I was quite confused until it becomes clear at about the 80% mark. The stories were brutal and violent but written so well that I could clearly imagine the scenes in my mind. This is a war story like no other, set in the harsh lands full of grotesque detail and almost poetic imagery.
